December 8 pm 33 degrees W wind 15-20 becoming calm Partly sunny Let the late season begin! The action this afternoon started at 330 and went until I finally escaped from the stand at 530. 25+ deer. Five bucks (that I could tell), one shooter. After some tense moments, all of the deer congregated in the center of the cut corn and fed. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Failed optics cost me a buck 3 seasons ago. Easily the biggest buck I have ever shot at. Opening day gun season, had my kid in the stand with me, 80-100 yard shot, broadside and standing still. I never touch him. I shot the gun weeks prior to the season and all seemed great. I shot the gun after i "missed" and the scope was waaaay out of sight. The scope would not take minor adjustments at all. Every time you made an adjustment it was extreme. I went out and bought the Nikon Prostaff. Gun has shot great for the past two years with it. I hope I am not having equipment failure again. I'm starting to think I need to make an "investment" in firearms. Both shotgun and muzzleloader. I spend way too much time in the woods for my equipment to be my weakness. It needs to work when I need it to! Ill admit that I dont shoot enough but their seems to be a bunch of guys here that do and that knowledge is certainly appreciated.

December 7 pm 26 degrees NW wind 15 becoming calm Partly cloudy Long walk in, probably close to 3/8-1/2 mile but i wanted to get where humans haven't bothered to be. Got settled in and then made a quick adjustment and walked another 50 yards to put myself closer to the thick stuff. Very little sign on the walk in all the fresh snow but it's tough to beat thick stuff surrounded by cut corn. Notice movement in my peripheral vision over my left shoulder. It was a shooter leaving the neighbors thick stuff, feeding and slowly making his way across the field. If I stayed where I was sitted originally he would have ended up in my lap. I spun around 180 degrees on my knees and took a 90 yard broadside shot. The buck took off and ran 20 yards and stopped. I thought he was ready to drop but after 60 seconds, no. So I took a second shot, hard quartering away. He then took off and disappeared into the woods. I assumed I had a dead deer but to my surprise I missed. Both shots clean misses. No hair. No blood. No signs of distress. The shotgun is getting sidelined for the muzzleloader until I can get some range time and figure out what's going on with it. No way I should have missed. I will never claim be a sniper but it was a chip shot. I'm not sure if something got bumped and now the scope is off. Needless to say I was very pi**ed off leaving the woods last night. Heartbreaking. As bad as I want to start a "woe is me" conversation, I won't. It would be nice if Lady luck would, for just once, be on my side. That makes my second miss of the year. For those keeping score at home... Rob = 0 Bucks= 2 Damn deer!!! I'm really struggling to keep my sanity at this point. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

December 6 pm 37 degrees SW wind 10-20 mph Partly sunny becoming heavy flurries Hunted from the ground tonight in a spot I don't get to much. Perfect late season spot to sit but apparently I wasn't on the x tonight. All the deer I saw came out of the neighbors woods on the opposite end of the field. 7 total and tough to tell what they all were. Very nocturnal creatures at this point still.
