  1. December 7 pm 26 degrees NW wind 15 becoming calm Partly cloudy Long walk in, probably close to 3/8-1/2 mile but i wanted to get where humans haven't bothered to be. Got settled in and then made a quick adjustment and walked another 50 yards to put myself closer to the thick stuff. Very little sign on the walk in all the fresh snow but it's tough to beat thick stuff surrounded by cut corn. Notice movement in my peripheral vision over my left shoulder. It was a shooter leaving the neighbors thick stuff, feeding and slowly making his way across the field. If I stayed where I was sitted originally he would have ended up in my lap. I spun around 180 degrees on my knees and took a 90 yard broadside shot. The buck took off and ran 20 yards and stopped. I thought he was ready to drop but after 60 seconds, no. So I took a second shot, hard quartering away. He then took off and disappeared into the woods. I assumed I had a dead deer but to my surprise I missed. Both shots clean misses. No hair. No blood. No signs of distress. The shotgun is getting sidelined for the muzzleloader until I can get some range time and figure out what's going on with it. No way I should have missed. I will never claim be a sniper but it was a chip shot. I'm not sure if something got bumped and now the scope is off. Needless to say I was very pi**ed off leaving the woods last night. Heartbreaking. As bad as I want to start a "woe is me" conversation, I won't. It would be nice if Lady luck would, for just once, be on my side. That makes my second miss of the year. For those keeping score at home... Rob = 0 Bucks= 2 Damn deer!!! I'm really struggling to keep my sanity at this point. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  4. December 6 pm 37 degrees SW wind 10-20 mph Partly sunny becoming heavy flurries Hunted from the ground tonight in a spot I don't get to much. Perfect late season spot to sit but apparently I wasn't on the x tonight. All the deer I saw came out of the neighbors woods on the opposite end of the field. 7 total and tough to tell what they all were. Very nocturnal creatures at this point still. 13. December 5 pm 36 degrees WSW wind 5-10 mph Partly sunny Quietly snuck into the stand this afternoon about 2-230 ish. Woods was dead silent for the entire sit. About to get out of the stand at 5 and here comes a train of does. 8 of them. Nose to tail. From bedding through the hardwoods and right to the cut corn. They trapped me in the stand until 535. Leaving sounded like walking on potato chips. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  18. December 3 pm 35 degrees NW wind 10-15 Cloudy Wet snow What a crappy sit. Facing the wind and covered in wet snow. No fun. Switch it up tonight and hunted a spot I don't hunt to often. The conditions were perfect for it. Pretty good funnel on the inside corner of a cut corn field. Doe and two fawns made there way out about 430 and that would be my night. 19. December 2 pm 60 degrees S wind 5 mph Partly sunny Between the heat and all the rain all of the snow is gone. Crazy hot day for December. Sat on a cut corn field tonight. Does, fawns, and small bucks... Plenty of deer made their way out to it but just not the right one. I heard a bunch of single shots tonight so apparently guys were filling their freezers tonight. Heard some chasing in the neighbors woods before Sun rise. Coyotes, does, fawns, bucks all on their feet before 815 but... No big boys. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
