November 9 am 37 degrees SE wind 5 mph Cloudy Quiet and cold morning with approaching front at 9 am. Breezy snow/rain mix. Very quiet and still morning. Bumped two deer walking in. Had another go by in the dark. Certainly sounded like some deer moving in the woods this morning in the dark but nothing once the sun came up. Saw that there is two scrapes tore up on my way out. One is my mock scrape and the other is a fresh scrape. Ugly weather front coming. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
November 8 pm 50 degrees WNW wind 5-15 mph Cloudy skies A few deer tonight. First one was a deer running through and never got a good look at it. Second was a button buck that came in to me blind calling. Third was a big bodied buck but didn't get a good look at the rack because it was dark. Fourth was a single deer I spooked walking out. It's awesome to get the kids involved. They love it. They love having their own success but they love seeing us in action doing what we love. And of course vice versa. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Hunted this morning, snuck out, got some paperwork done, and now I am back on stand for the pm. Got in here about two. Got settled into my stand and realized the wind was WNW. Forecast swears it is west. Got down and walked to another stand. Haven't been in this stand other than one other time this season. Fingers crossed. November 8 am 46 degrees SW wind 10-15 Cloudy A good number of does and doe fawns seen from the stand this morning. 6-8 of them. Only one rack this morning. He must of been beaded near the stand because he harassed them all as they approached the stand. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Heard chaos approaching... Young buck chasing a young doe. Quieter this morning then I expected. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
November 7 pm 47 degrees W wind 15-25 Party cloudy Really wasn't planning on hunting tonight but managed to sneak out for the last hour or so. Never saw a deer until dark and spook another on the way out. Scrapes are dead. A bunch of chasing on camera. The rubs in the overgrown portion of the field are amazing. Every single sapling is tore up Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
I didnt hunt today and that is all i thought about but.... It rained until around 1030 and then again at 130. It has been windy since mid day in Hilton and now it is 40+. 62 degrees. I mean Id rather be hunting but it is a pretty crappy day. I am trying to get work done early this week so I can hunt the last week undisturbed.
Sometimes it may seem like dumb luck but most of the time it is hard work that gets us there. The rut reminds us every year how quickly things can happen and usually in a blink of an eye. I have had two great encounters this year so far and all i needed was "one more step" and I would have let an arrow fly. Better than a game of chess!
