I thought I would share some pictures from my trip to the Dominican Republic last week. We spent the morning on a 38' Black Fin known as "Predator" booked from Mikes Marina Fishing Charters. Great day on the water with family.
We set up about 5 miles out the front door with a calm 4-6' roll and in full search mode we did the "classic charter troll", due east. A simple 5 rod set. 1 rod off each outrigger plus a teaser rig, 1 rod off each back corner, and a tailgunner chute rod. Ballyhoo was the bait of choice. Some rigged natural and some rigged with a plastic skirt. We found some smaller weed mats closer to shore but they did not produce a bite for us. We were seeking out huge floating weed mats and they would be the key to success today. Between the 8-14 mile mark we had found them along with the fish. Tons of Dorado, Barracuda, and even a Tuna hit the deck. 3 exciting visits from Sails to our set but no takers. We had over 25 bites and 18 fish to the boat. The biggest highlight of the day for me was myself, my son, and my father (three generations) fighting a triple on Mahi Mahi!
