  1. Any Okuma 30 series line counter reel will work. If you are looking for an "entry level" reel then i would suggest the Okuma Convector CV-30D. The Magna pro series is ok for an entry level downrigger reel but for wire divers you will be glad you spent the extra money on the convectors. 1000' of 30# ss wire will easily fit on the reel but i would suggest 100' of 30# mono backing to to ensure the reel is 100% full.
  2. Otters work great right out of the box. Double keels are not needed to pull copper. They do make otters pull harder but they are not necessary. Braid is best option for planer board line that ive found. Its crazy expensive and the sun beats it up but noone can argue its performance. No stretch, no water absorption, and releases slide with ease.

  9. You can get numerous seasons from a good quality wire. Its made from stainless steel so it will hold up to a lot. my reels are spooled up with 1000'. Really the only time I replace wire because I have 650' or less on the reel. (Which will happen eventually from cutting back and retying.) This little of line on the reel will make the counter inaccurate and of course leaves you less line for fish to take. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  12. My big boards are in the water from flatlining Spring Browns in shallow water to summer copper fishing KIngs to plug fishing Kings in the fall off the pier heads. Big boards are the way to go when pulling multiple mono flatlines When one of those lines releases you can simply slide the others down in its place. Assuming all the lines are the same you will have minimal tangles. The idea of doing the same thing with multiple coppers or leadcores just isnt a good idea. You would have to reel in lines to reset a side and this is the dilemma with using big boards with this setup. If your plan is to run multiple coppers per side then Ideally small boards are the way to go. Church TX22 for short coppers and TX44 for long coppers are great choices for that.
  13. For sure blue Flashers and Spin Doctors work on Lake O. We all know green is king on the south shore especially in the western ports who enjoy the fertile green water from the Niagara. Blue is a great producer for me in high sun or clean, blue water.

    Hello

    Welcome to the site!
  15. I fished braddocks yesterday and walked away with a skunk. 5 tip ups with 2 flags. Both ended in dropped baits. 5 tip downs, 1 deadstick, and 2 jigging rods = zero perch. I never even had hit and never saw a fish. It wasnt just me, word on the ice was it was just terrible fishing. Terribly slow from Braddocks to Iron Bay.
  16. 3 sets of Cannon rear mount dual rod holders never used, opened box, (can also be boom mounted or single rear mounted) $45 each
  17. We had alot of success with Blood Run Tackle's Sea Flee. Its a 30# mono with a slick resin and a round shape. It was specifically designed and built to battle fleas. http://bloodruntackle.gostorego.com/shop/premium-monofilaments/sea-flee-fishing-line-mono-spiny-water-flea-300-yards.html

  20. For copper lengths 250'-500' = Okuma Clarion 553LS or Okuma Convector 55L. I will say, 500' will leave you with less then 100' of backer though. Solterra 50 is a better choice for 500' or more.
  21. I would depend on the average depth you would like to target kings and this may vary depending on what port you fish from. In 2013 my answer would have been 400' copper but in 2012 my answer would have been 300'. If you are looking to get your first copper rig then I would suggest something between 400-500'. Reel size isnt overwelming with copper lengths of this size. Take the time to mark out every 50' of line and this will give you the opportunity to fish it at different lengths (150, 300, etc) as a chute rod. This one setup will help you learn the fundamentals of copper fishing and soon you will own 1/2 dozen setups!
