  1. Cold and rainy. For everyone out on the lake today, what a perfectly named day...April Fools day. Although I have spent a few weeks getting the boat ready for the season, I never have been a fan of shakedown cruises unless of course everything goes well. But the boat ran great, the equipment is working well, and everything looks good so that certainly made the trip out, a good one. It has been a long winter but we are ready to fish 2012. After a quick boat ride, we shut down between the pump house and Newmans Point. With nothing ready to go, we tied fluoro leaders on everything, and we slowly got lines in. We wrestled getting lines in the water for about 3 hours and rarely had more than 3 in at one time (until days end). Solid pick of Brownies from creek to the woods. Mostly cookie cutters and nothing over 9#. A mix of sticks off the boards put half of the fish in the boat and DW ss caramel dolphins off the riggers (5 down and 25+40' back) put the other half in. Great shoreline water color with random spots of chocolate milk on both east and west sides of the creek and thats where we found the fish. 8- 15 fow.
  2. Funny you should ask that question... When we were out yesterday i notice all of the fish we caught on sticks had the front treble hook.
  3. Im not a huge fan of the 30# ff. Because of its shape it tends to "lump" up on the reel and line capacity is an issue because it doesnt lay flat. I have also found it more prone to line twist. With that being said i love the 20#. Nothing will keep fleas off like ff line. Nothing.
  4. Matt, We have talked, so as you know I upgrade everything last year to Okuma. Im now running Okuma Convectors paired up with Okuma Classic Pro GLT rods for everything (planer board, downrigger, leadcore, copper, and wire set ups). One year in and im as happy as i was on day one. Customers and fishing friends who have fished with me since the upgrade have loved the new combos. Daiwa has dominated the great lakes market since the beginning of time, so most people know Daiwa products. I have found most people have never fished Okuma but i can tell you that people are missing out. Convectors are a great product and Im sure at some point it will result in a upgrade to Catalinas.

  11. install a fuse block. A lot less messy at the battery. It will give you a great place to get power for all kinds of things.
  12. The docks are in!
  13. Oak Orchard pier (west of rochester) also has some great access.
  14. I spoke to town today about getting the docks put in early this year (typically they are installed between april 1- april15). They assured me they would be working on the docks at the public launch next week. (the docks are owned by the DEC but the town is responsible for removal and installing them.) Both docks are in need of minor repairs and they are hoping to have them both in by weeks end. Depending on how things go, I was told at the very least 1 of them would be in sometime next week. Hope it helps guys.
