  7. I run them and I think they work great for flatlining mono. Anything beyond that is a challenge.
  8. With all other things being the same, I think hands down a hard top is the way to go. Canvas is not cheap. I spent over $1700 on all new canvas last year. You can bet that my next boat will be a hard top!
  9. leadcore is the answer your looking for. It works great in that range and works great off the boards too.

    Batteries

Chowder, I wouldnt replace both bateries unless you have to. Most auto parts stores have battery testers to check the condition of your batteries and Id recommend it before replacing them. I seem to be on a 2-3 year replacement cycle with batteries and I always make sure to put the fresh battery in as the starting battery.
  13. Fishing for Fun, Yeah Im a fan of the challenger sticks. They have put some fish on the boat over the past fours years or so that ive been using them including the brownie on saturday.
  14. With the weather as good as its ever been in March, I was ahead of schedule on getting the boat ready for the season. On friday (with help from Scott from Silverfox), we launched the boat, took a quick cruise out of the creek, and tied her off to her summer home. This morning I was itching to get the boat out on the water make sure everything was working (and of course get a few lines wet too). We were only out for an hour or so but we did pull our first fish of the year, a brownie, from the plume out in front of the creek. With the lack of rain, the shallows lacked color and were pretty clear for the most part. Saw 4 boats out in the lake along with a couple fishing in the creek. Im hoping to get on the water next weekend and troll the shallows a little bit more. Let the fishing season begin!
  15. Recieved this email last night from the Sandy Creek pen rearing coordinator Bob Holden. The DEC is ahead of schedule and wants us to recieve our fish early so it changes our schedule completely.
  16. heres some good reading: http://www.invadingspecies.com/Invaders ... Page&PID=8
  17. I started tying my own flies about 4 years ago. While I believe that in the long run it may save you some money, in the short term it doesnt. Its fun to do and you will get some satifaction out of catching fish on your "product". A couple of places to check out would be http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/ and http://www.purpletacoflysupply.net/ Truth is... soon youll find yourself completely addicted and tying up an unbelievable amount of flies.
  18. Those spoon colors are down right ugly... but you know they will put some brownies on board.
  19. Happy Birthday Brian
  20. What did you think of the "garden of eden"? Other than that there are some great bars in Key West!
  21. Very nice post! You just cant go wrong with the blacks releases. I havent used the chamberlains so I cant speak for them. The Legendary Products Elberta Clip'er is simple to use and works great for fixed sliders. Roemer also makes the "liberator" fixed slder thats works great too. Both of them work great for mupped rigs. I dont stack my riggers to much anymore but when I do I use the roemers. I have offshores on the boat too but I prefer the adjustability of the roemers. With offshore releases they have a snap swivel that attaches to the downrigger cable, then you take one of the pinch pads and place that on the downrigger cable where you want it, then place your line in the other pinch pad, and your fishing.
  22. If they were black id pay you $14 more!
