  1. most organizations believe that keeping smaller fish and throwing back "breeders" helps substain fish populations and keeps from overpopulating. just like whitetail deer management a number of animals must be "harvested" to keep the population healthy. over population causes the problem of too many fish and not enough cover, food , and/or predators, resulting in smaller, younger, geneticly inferior fish populations. (farm ponds are a perfect example of this) i guess if you treated a bass lake similar to quality deer manage property the results would be similar.
  2. i try to avoid catching them
  3. left the dock at 6 and headed for the shallows in search of some big guys. not much of a screen until 70-80 fow, so we set up there. its tough not to fish that water when it looks like that so we work that water for a couple of hours with only one king for our effort. tough fishing inside so we turned north and headed for 300 fow. started finding some bait and some hooks about 315-340 fow. 325 seemed to be our best depth and for next 2 hours manage to boat 2 more kings and 1 small bow, and we also dumped 3 others. nk nbk and stinger nbk 40-90' on the riggers and we also did one fish on the 240 wire with a green on white spin doctor w/green fly.
  4. i use atommic's fly box for fully rigged flies. http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/flybox.htm keeps everthing nice and organized. the top gives you a spot to keep extra hooks and the top tray gives you a spot for leader material, beads, etc.
  5. good to hear the car ride was worth it. jay and his wife are good peeps and that jerry guy is ok too.
  6. Is there an echo in here?
  7. scottb, i never notice what did they do so wrong?
  8. i wouldnt suggest putting mono backer on at all, its not needed. i would suggest an arbor knot for spooling. http://www.animatedknots.com/arbor/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com
  9. yummmm...spam...
  10. i didnt know they made other colors?.... just kidding i actually own 60-70 j plugs but those are really the only 2 colors i run. i actually picked up a couple green glow this week at gander. steelies love em too!
  11. awesome fish!!
  12. i would stick with just clean spoons off your mainline when running cheaters (fixed or free slider). a flasher and a spoon can cause an awful mess.
  13. so it wasnt a accidental fish? you were "fishing" for them? Hmmm.... i guess we can cut him some slack for admitting to it...
  14. Missdemeanor, you know if you guys need a hand, im in. let me know.
  15. im glad you brought it up because i really wanted to say something about it on saturday. im sure it was an accident, right?
  16. i think one of the major reasons we dont see tournies out of Rochester is the lack of help from monroe county tourism dept. if you check out other lake ontario counties tourism dept (for example orleans county or niagara county tourism) they give major support to their fisheries and to the sport of all fishing. Rochester lacks that support and has for along time. its sad to see monroe county, being the amazing fishery that it is, overlooked and under promoted.
  17. nice fish foster. i figured something was up when i saw you guys pass by my dock the other day.
  18. personally my favorite colors are black, black, and black
  19. ill throw it in for free if you want it
  20. brand new- never been used 8'6" Eagle Claw Starfire Downrigger Rod (retails for about $35.00) local pickup-best offer
  21. support your local towns and purchase your license from your town clerk. a portion of the revenue earned from license sales stays with the town it was sold in (and the lines are alot less, too.)
  22. i too like the idea of changing out the tip from the start. the wire rods on my boat now have never seen a day on the water without a twilly tip. i mean if your setting up the rod now, you should complete the process now. why wait?
