  1. Those set ups are fine. Prepare your stuff for finicky brown fishing and then adapt to the King bite. Dont over compensate for kings until you can justify numbers. My spring setups are Okuma Blu Diamond ML action rods w/ 30 Series Okuma reels. My planer board setups are spooled with 16# Blood run mono w/ 8-12# fluoro. If the King bite gets good (like it has the past few years) I increase my leader size 15-20#. Kings tear up gear but I tend to go light as I can until they start cracking me off.
  2. I love the long shallows. I tend to throw a mix of bait profiles (LS and SS) out there and let the fish tell me what they want. I would say for me it is a 50/50 catch on LS to SS. Water clarity, water temps, and class of fish tend to influence the decision on what to run that day.

  10. Very simple thing to do but Im so glad I did it to all of my reels.
  11. Hey Dont feel bad... Its a good thing to have all that work.
  12. Absolutely love high speed reels (30 series) for riggers and divers. Besides the high speed also change the reel handle location on all of my Okuma reels (back hole in the reel handle). I feel this really helps with the torque issue that you experience with high speed. I also really like high speeds for short coppers and leadcores (30 and 45 series reels) however Im not a huge fan of fighting a big fish on a big copper with a high speed reel. This is where you really notice the loss of torque with high speed reels. Little fish you dont notice it as much though. High speeds are great when you need to change baits but IMO dont offer any advantage fighting fish. I actually prefer a standard Okuma Convector 55 for my big coppers.

  14. Pulled 6 stands and 3 cameras today off a property that I have hunted for over 15 years. It was certainly heartbreaking to do. Felt a lot like your middle school girlfriend breaking up with you.
  15. Sticks work great for Kings and they put the first Kings in the boat for us every year. Typically they are a incidental catch for us as we target Browns in shallow water in Spring. However as we slide into slightly deeper water spoons become a better choice of baits and once we fish deeper in the water column flashers become the top choice. Sticks also work late in the season when Kings are staging and we use them along side of plugs.
