I dont think he wanted to hijack your thread. Weighted steel is advertised that way but there is no evidence that proves it to be true. Guys that I have spoke to say no way it has the same dive curve as 45# copper and that its dive curve is similar to 32# copper. I always hear the words "copper replacement" but in reality its something different, like leadcore. They are all sinking line presentations but each is very different.

Who in their right mind would ever do that? Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

So my setup is an Okuma 10' White diamond diver rod and Okuma high speed convector 30 series reel. I use 30# wire but 30# braid will get the job done. The downside to braid is fleas. Fleas love braid. 50# is a bit too big for fishing deep but I have zero issues using 65# braid for my slide divers. I dont use snubbers ever. As for leaders... for spoons i use 12' of 20# flouro and for flashers/ paddles 12' of 30 or 40# flouro. Black is always the preferred diver color on the boat but there are times that chrome, glow, green might see some time. The biggest correction in your setup is your diver setting. I typically run mine on a 2 setting. If you're running yours on a 3 or more than they may not be getting deep enough.

Its a game changer for sure. Its a huge piece of the puzzle. But its tough to tell you to invest in it when you only use it a few times a year.

Start small. Short coppers and short cores are a good way to get your feet wet.

No need to be sorry. Weighted steel isnt designed for diver wire. It is a sinking line.

This isnt about divers. Its about sinking line presentations. You wouldnt use a diver here.

Theres an easier way... thumper rig.

Im not buying into it. It may offer some "versatility" but I certainly dont see it as a "replacement" for copper. I see this setup ONLY being used without worries as a chute rod or at least in the way it is promoted. The idea that you can run this off boards (big or small without worries) blows my mind. The thought of attaching anything to 19 strand wire makes my head explode. Sounds like you will be buying lots of product to replace the stuff you break off. The idea of a copper replacement is a fantastic sales pitch and it certainly grabs some attention but it sounds like an attempt to reinvent the wheel. I know the attraction to the idea is the need for less rods but... My understanding of the "steel theory" that is pushed is all you need to achieve the same dive curve as 45# copper is a 200' weighted steel and 30# wire as backing. Yet guys that I have talked to all say that these setups just dont get as deep as their similar copper setups. Ive talk to people who have tested it with a smart troll and have found it to have a similar dive curve to 32# copper not 45#. Makes sense to me because it has a larger diameter and weighs less than 45# copper does. Everyone also agrees they like the way it comes off the reel and there is virtually zero issues with bird nests. If anyone has used 32# copper they would also tell you how much easier it is to use than 45#. So wouldnt it just be easier to spool up a 200' of 32# copper, backed with 30# 7 strand wire, and put it on a smaller reel. I am not advocating this by the way.

I know someone. They used it only as a chute rod during tournaments. Heavy mono leader. They told me they just lock the drag down and pray.

45# copper??? No way. 250' is the max on a 45 series that I would recommend.

Theres 2 choices mono or braid and good and bad with each. Mono is the economical choice and will do the job but it doesn't put up with the continued abuse. Braid simply survives 3 times longer. Braid all in all is the better choice (for example. It doesnt absorb water. The smaller diameter allows for more backer. Durability. Shelf life is 5 times better.) https://bloodruntackle.com/hi-vis-backer/ https://bloodruntackle.com/bloodline-braid/
