  1. Hank I can relate totally with that experience having gone with Gambler in his shed with heat and camera. Next time put another hole and drop a minnow down it and watch that baby move around too Only thing else you needed to do was have some nice tenderloin and horseradish mayo sandwiches on crusty bread wrapped in foil. Then you place them on the heater (turn after a couple minutes) and there's your nice hot beef sandwich Well when you buying your sled/tent maybe we can get a better deal on 2 of them
  2. That a girl fshnwmn!
  3. Some Seagur flouro leaders will help too!
  4. Paul I like the Democraps comment I have fished this lake for 25 years now for trout and salmon and started out when I think our new friend here, Capt. Vince was still working at Kodak full time (I worked with Robin at Stouffers Hotel back then) Back when I started we "rowed" a 12 foot aluminum boat between Bear creek and Ginna flat lining Andy Reekers with the poles in our hands to catch brown trout Try an Andy Reeker today I bought my boat in 1994 and the fishing was very good for the first 3 years then dropped off a bit for a couple years for me anyways . I at the time had pretty much learned everything I knew from the friend that got me started in big lake fishing (or as my wife would say the guy that she has to thank for all the fishing stuff I have wasted our/my money on over the last 25 years ) I didn't know any charter Captains who's brains I could pick for info and didn't know of forums like this or others that discussed and taught things about trolling the big lake. That's when I met Steve Drave aka King Me who helped me and told me about little things like flouro carbon leaders, speed and temp units and other things that would help improve trolling techniques and how to use theses things to help put fish in the boat. I think that's exactly what Vince is saying in regards to "the average angler is so much more educated than they were years ago. Even with the same amount of fish around, you are sharing them because the average angler is more proficient". I can say that my fish catching has improved over the last 5 years do to this point exactly. There's plenty of fish out there it's more of a matter of fine tuning and techniques. Then I met Ray K and it was back to the mid 90's fishing for me again Just kidding Ray, but he says it at the bottom of his signature with "Always Learning Or Never Learning" if it's the later you're gonna have a hard time putting fish in the boat. We have a great fishery here and all need to do our part to help keep it that way by continuing to contact our government officials that decide on what happens to our lakes, rivers and streams.
  5. Ditto what everybody else has said buddy Hope her therapy goes well that's a tough thing to go through and we'll be praying for a speedy recovery.
  6. Yeah I forgot All fixed now though. My pleasure on the sandwiches, heating them on the heater was a bonus
  7. Hit the hard water with Gambler, his dad and a very heavy heart today but kept thinking that's what cousin Gary would have wanted me to do. Set 15 tip ups and jigged for gills. Did a slew of gills probably 150+ and keeping about 40 good size ones between the 3 of us to give to some people I work with. Saw a few bass, a pike and a crappy on the camera but no takers . Fished from about 9 am to 2 pm. Started pulling our tip ups and after pulling number 11 Brian sees a flag go (the farthest one of course!) Not running but he feels a bit of weight on it and sets the hook After taking about 30 yards of line a couple of times Brian reaches in a grabs this fella : Measures out to 36 inches and about 12-13 lbs Got this guy on a big dead herring bait Great finish to a emotional day for me on the ice. Like to think somebody up there was helping us out at the end
  8. Thanks!!! It means and helps a lot
  9. Thanks to all of you that have had myself and Gary's family in your thoughts and prayers in means a lot to me to know that a great bunch of guys are here to lend support when someone has had some sort of tragic experience like this. I will certainly pass your condolences onto Gary's wife, step daughters, brother and mother when I see them this week. Once again I know he's gone onto a much better place and I am sure he's looking down on us now as he's catching the biggest perch he's ever seen Gary's big smile, sense of humor and perch catching abilities will be missed by all of us that knew him, but never forgotten Gary here's to you, as used to say to me when I was a kid "we'll have to do a little fishin and catch some jack perch"
  10. Well my wife DVR'd the channel 31 news for me and got all the info I needed . Can't believe it was his brother Bruce's birthday today besides. Looks like he just made a bad decision as to where to enter the ice Sounds like his ice fishing equipment was holding him down too
  11. Ditto what capt. Vince said. The people that risk their lives defending this country so that we can enjoy are freedom are the GREATEST ever as far as I am concerned
  12. OH MY GOD! That is my cousin 50 years he's been fishing, this had to be a fluky thing with the ice He was a believer of God so he's gone on to a bigger and better fishing hole in the sky I am sure of that Any other info about what happened would be GREATLY appreciated through a PM to me on here. He's gonna be missed

Boy you would think with all the time I spent there having a bunch of and throwing the Frisbee in the late 70's while skipping classes (My friends and I are why there is that steel gate at the road going up to devils bathtub, they got sick of us always pulling the "tree trunks" they put there to divert us out of the way with my friends truck GODZILLA ) I would have remembered that one Deep pond was always a good place for bass and caught a nice crappy out of there too
