bretter, you can use rubber bands too. Just half hitch them around the wire where it comes out of the spool and goes up the rod, then just pull it over the handle. When a fish hits it will break off or you might have to rip it off yourself. Just be use it's off before you reel!

how did the LOU members do in the proam
FISHINMAN replied to Chromeslayer's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Tim his name was Ed. Not sure of the guys name that he came with although Ray or Bob may know as I was " Feeling a little Poop-e" on day two and slept a bit while it was slow time on day one since I got about 1 hour of sleep if that, because a certain little polish fella snores louder than a heard of buffalo stampeeding through the trailer and they insist on sleeping with the radio on??????. -

Tim, don't you mean a lot less small fish around :x That should really help out the next couple of years fishing especially with the smaller amount of salmon that were stocked this year because of disease. That was a STUPID RULE! They should have adjusted it for the first 2 Pro Ams them had it that way for the last 2. From what our observer said he was there with the guy that is in charge of the pen rearing up that way I guess and he was not happy and was going to be giving the DEC a call. That's at least what we were told. I heard it was something like 9,000lbs of fish taken  . Being a "Catch and Release" fisherman I won't be fishing these Pro Ams anymore and that's a big part of why. -

All 3 areas can be good, just try different depths. -
Enzo as far as speed goes it could be anywhere from 2.2 to as much as 3.0 or more. The best thing to do is vary your speeds and do some zig zagging while trolling paying attention to what rods fire for you if it's an inside rod (lure tends to slow down) or outside rod (lure tends to speed up) when you are turning this will help tell you iof they are active towrds a slower moving lure or faster moving lure. What you are running also might make a difference. A flsher/fly might move a little better than say a spoon might off a downrigger at 2.6. You need to vary speeds and really pay attention to what speed you are going when a fish hits. Currents to will affect what's going on. If there is heavy current you might need to go faster in one direction than another. Watch those rigger cables for angles. As far as temp goes, look for temp breaks by dropping your probe into different depths and finding a thermalcline or just a suttle break of a degree or two might be all you need. I am not even close to an expert but thos eare a couple things that I know that will at least get you started. Try posting this same topic under the tackle and techniques topic. Keep an eye on both this topic line (fishing reports) and check out the www.attheoak.com site, alot of the guys here and there will mention things like speeds and temps. Good luck and tight lines to ya.

I have to agree with the Musky man on the AM side with the Lousers ... HAHAHA On the pro side Muskybob I believe Mark AKA Reeljerks, is fishing on High Voltage don't count Thrillseeker or any of the Pro's they are all very good!
-
Thanks Dave I knew he/she wouldn't have to buy in but didn't know about the free pass.
-
Musky i don't think they need to be. I believe because they are not allowed to touch the rods at anytime. Looks like it might be a slow night on Friday so this guy might be able to get out early to meet up with you guys earlier than anticipated

Absolutely!!! Thank you all!

Sunday: Hoped the bite was still as hot as I had read/heard in the AM! Got the wife aka Mrs 2 Rods to go with me for a Sunday afternoon trip. Put out the wire and set one pole in the rigger and hadn't cranked down the line yet and a shaker hits it but gone :x . got the poles set and had the wire rip a little later with a dalmation spinny with a Atomic Blue Mirage fly and it was a beauty of a king that put on a great show out of the water with 2 huge jumps then it was screamin time for it :x took me out to 500ft and just sat there like someone tied it to something, it just would not budge   decided to have the Mrs turn the boat to the get the fish out to the side a bit and try to get a little line back, got it to 280ft and then shake shake shake GONE :x :x :x :x :x :x :x . Never did it go slack either Ray! Got one king in the 7-8 lb range, the batteries were dead in the camera and the wife chopped have of my head (a good thing) and half of the fish off with the phone camera. Caught 4 more little skippers and cohos and called it a night. Kings were in the 140' area down 20 - 40 and the wire was out 125. The skippers and cohos came in the 80' range at various depths and on spooks, a honeybee colored lure and a purple/blue black dot NK dimple light (not sure of the make of the other as it were given to me by someone) I threw it all at them, emptied the tackle boxes. Mupped, cheated, fixed cheaters, short leads, long leads, Mags, 28s, wire in and out everything but lead core (I refuse to use!) Decided after reading all the posts and talk of the 15-20+ fish being caught on Sunday before 9AM that I would go out again for a morning run with a friend and his son after getting a whopping 2hrs sleep  Hit the water at 6am and talked to a guy that said he had gotten 20 the day before. Went out to 80ft and dropped the lines lost one small king in the 7-8lb range right behind the boat. Managed to get this one for my friends son Wyatt his first king That was in 84ft of water down 50' on a NK 28 gold monkey puke. Then this is what happened and I was NOT HAPPY AT ALL :!: I was not paying attention for a minute and I trolled into the 75ft range and I had dropped one of the riggers down to 80' earlier. Well what happens next angers me to no end, pisses me right off makes me want to bang my head on the side of the boat........ A pole pops straight up I grab it thinking darn I caught bottom, then I realize it's not the bottom rod  but it feels like it's stuck so I think it's caught on another rod but no worse yet it's a LAKE TROUT I think cut the line who cares about 1 lost lure and a little of line. Instead I decide to let the kid bring it in. The fight was unreal, I mean unreal like I can't believe that a fish hooked in it's mouth won't even make a movement, but wait it gets to the top and MOVES   even splashed once  Well I had to net it so we could take a picture for him (I washed the net 3 times to get out the smell) released it to so that Brian (Gambler) could get it another day Here it is: That's how the morning ended for us. Looks like it was a day late and a dollar short for me as I talked to a couple of guys that didn't do any better. Heard a little radio talk but it didn't sound all that great. Seems like the few bigger fish liked the lures right behind the ball. P.S did I mention that that stupid laker pooped in the boat :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x and Sub troll still not working unless it's down 10ft or less :x

HOLLY COW IT'S A GAMBLER SITING :!: :!: Where ya been hiding Brian? I know you got married last year but this much time away is unheard of  Welcome back O Laker Great One

The biggest horror story of them all happened last year at my very first Pro Am. I met Ray K. It was offset by the pleasure of meeting FISHINMAN for the first time also, so I stuck around. The End. That is absolutely true! Would have been mine too but I met him last Mothers Day for the first time!
-
As soon as I saw this topic I knew my name would be brought up   by Ray. Then again that is my biggest horror story, but I've only fished the one. It won't happen this year my friend! Not happening! "Non horror" story would be our observer from Sodus

Try some on your lips while your at it

I wanted to get out Sunday evening but as soon as I got in my car it started to pour and the wife wasn't going for that. As it turned out about an hour and a half later it got snotty by my house. I noticed the lots been pretty empty when I have been down there too. I think it's both the slow fishing and people cutting back some on the gas $$ too :x Thanks for the reports guys. Looks like it's starting to come around -
