Sub Troll problem
FISHINMAN replied to FISHINMAN's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Ray I'm laughing my butt off here! That's sad but true and funny. You left out one thing though.... the sound of the cable snapping and me turning around and saying what the heck was that noise I'm gonna throw up in youir boat next time! -
This was the 1st of the double trouble This was the 2nd while it was caught on the rigger wire. Finally in the boat This was an absolutely perfect looking king, just beautiful to look at! Here's a little something that was floating by the boat. I retrieved it and left it by the dock at Sandy This was a huge salt bag I managed to pick up earlier in the week, fought like crazy. And the last picture speaks for it self CLICK ON THE PICTURE FOR A BETTER VIEW:P

Saw the weather forecast for the weekend so I made a last minute run to Sandy this AM. Hit the water at 7:15 and trolled between Sandy and the pump house. Did a double by myself with 2 teenage kings and that's always fun (13-15 lbs each) first one hit a pink spoon I had never put in the water before (I'll post a picture of it, it was given to me by a friend years ago and I'm not sure what it even is  ) the second hit a mullatto that had a orange crush cheatin above it. Well after getting the first fish in the boat and released back I grab the second one and get it to the back corner of the boat that has the rigger out of the way and as I'm trying to get the net it decides to screw across the back of the boat and into the rigger cable that's still in the water :x and sure enough it breaks off good by king and and 2 lures ............. BUT WAIT the rigger is bouncing, could it be :?: I bring the rigger up from 60ft and the orange crush on the cheater is hooked on the cable   I grab the lure and the fish is still on it swimming next to me but the net is on the other side of the boat so I grab the lure in the fishes mouth and haul it into the boat  Stayed in that area for a bit but no other takers Manage one other skipper. 20 and 60 down and 12 and 20ft back over 180ft, 2.5 on the GPS and a surface temp 44.5 (still no probe but I think I figured out the problem ) Trolled out to 235 and back but the surface temp went as low as 41 as I went north and stopped marking the few fish I did mark. Pics will be posted later on the pics page along with 2 other tid bits I got while out today :? Talked with Jax after he went out of the Oak and he'll post his report later I'm sure, but he did well.

Thanks guys! Ray funny or serious :?: because I'm thinking you didn't forget my old probe is at the bottom of the lake :x :x :x What's up with the Pro Am sponsorship too :?: -
I used my new probe the other day for the first time and the speed worked perfectly fine but the temp was all over the place :x :? Two things: (Ray don't need any responses like maybe the spatula isn't working or take it out of the oven  :x ) 1st off the temp would go from like 82 down to 8 up to 50 down to 39, get the drift? Then it would settle in on what seemed like correct temps in the low to middle 40 degree mark but would only stay like that for 20-30 seconds then go goofy again :? . 2nd, I had the probe at 39 ft then as soon as I dropped it to 49ft it would go blank, no speed no temp. Bring it back up and it's back to the same thing as before :?: I put a new battery in about 1 month ago. Was gonna put another in tomorrow before I go out but any suggestions?

Thinking of selling the boat  I might just take up catfish/bullhead fishing behind my house after these 2 big "gals" this past week. The cat hit it like it was in a rigger and pulled my pole out of the "holder" aka Y shaped stick in the dirt and down the bank. The bully around 3lbs The cat around 4Lbs with my size 12 sneakers and MY $20 bill. Hey you use what you have on hand and it was the smallest bill in my pocket  Sometimes it's fun to get back to "old school fishing" like when you were a kid. Left over worms from the grandkids and it cost me $0 for gas. They both put up a great fight too Enough of that, out to the lake I go this week

Went out at 6:45am and looked at the crystal clear water and new it would be tough fishing. Headed west and 10 minutes after the poles were set had a brown about 5-6 lbs! So there went any chance for skunkage on the first real trip out . It got worse after that went about 4hrs without a release after that  . Trolled all the way down to State Park and back then headed out to 80ft to see if anything would change. There was no colored water out there either. Marked a few fish but that was it. The one fish we did get was on a kinda brownish and grey Jr Thunder Stick (closest thing I had to a goby color) off the boards in 14ft of water back 150. Temp was between 43-44 degrees for the most part. There was 50 degree water at the mouth of Sandy. A few other boats I was pulling the boat out and saw Legacy (Rob) and a few others from the DEC waiting to see if they were gonna drop the little guys in but they said there was a temp. issue and looked like they were gonna go to the beach to let them go. The pic is on the picture page!
