  1. How do you guys release kings? When we've tried to release in the past they always end up belly-up and we swing back and scoop them up if we can find them. Seems they're always spent and I can't see wastin' a good smoker. We've tried tail holding them over the side to resessistate but with very little luck. Advice?
  2. Eric, I usually don't open many pics with this sloooowww dialup, but I'll always wait the 1/2 hour to see your pics. Nice fish. Still waitin' on maintenance and hopefully will be out soon. Erie, amongst the bassmasters was pretty slow for us on sat. Not an 'eye in the box.
  3. Hey Skeiner, don't bother to answer my last question, I forgot that you are the "KING of TAPE".
  4. Nice tape job skeener. Ever run the green thunder untaped?
  5. Maybe a NK Green Thunder would make a good substitute? But then the green thunder is the makings for the 42 second spoon. Maybe my 42 sec's will see some water time soon.
  6. What Fishinman said. Last fall we had a fish run a wire dipsay out to 900' before I turned the boat and lost it. Probably tailhooked(?)
  7. Ray, I run those 10# fish weights also. What I did to avoid mix up is to mark my side "out down" riggers with a strip of spoon tape (different color per rigger) and then marked the appropriate fish weight (with bend) with the identical tape. My starboard corner gets a fish weight with a straight tail. The port probe rigger gets a 12# true-trac, yeah I get a lot of blow back (ST900). This way even I don't mix them up!
  8. C'mon Ray, what's wrong with counting double passes? All kidding aside, I really like my counters for wire BUT in the beginning we did use 47H's and just counted passes.
  9. Nice! Thanks for the report.I need to get back up to the Oak. These Erie 'eyes just can't make a 47H sing like a king! But they were good for supper tonight. See you on the Oak water soon.
  10. My wife and I fished Evans Bar yesterday evening. Finished with 8 eyes. Best was 8.5, caught by my wife (of course). They turned on at sundown and we finished about 11:30p. As soon as we would troll up into the rocks the rods would fire. Just flatlinin' 2 rods with sticks. Smithwick (black back, orange belly) and Husky jerk, probably a 13 or 15 size clown. Oh yeah, before sundown we pulled a few on the smaller size r&r's tipped with a piece of crawler. Watermelon grape dot and another which I don't know the name but it was yellowish/orange/pukeish. I ran the spoons down 15' with 100' stretch. According to reports, it's been kinda slow at the Oak, so I guess Erie was the better choice yesterday. BTW all fish had empty bellies.
  11. I'm interested in a pair of the 27's. I really did pm you (this site NOT e-mail).
  12. Good lookin' Sabre Eric! Wish I had that kicker pocket on mine!
  13. Talk to me about the 27H's. I have a bunch of 47H's and like them for Kings. I'm thinkin' the 27's might be nice for 'eyes.
  14. Hey Ray, YOU ARE ONE FUNNY GUY!!!
  15. Looking for a good, unsplit swivel head which houses the end pulley for an older electric Walker. If nobody has one, where is a Walker parts outlet? I don't see parts on the Walker site.
  16. Went 6/7 today. I thought a slow pick. Browns to 8.14, coho to 4#. Trolled e and west, woods to ladders. Water temps 45-47+. Most on gold/black sticks. Fished 6:30 to 1:30. Flatlines and inlines were about equal. COHO FOR SUPPER, YUM! Ray K, was that your van in the state lot?
  17. Forests I gotta agree. Slide divers really are the answer for those excessive leads. Matter of fact my crew usually whines when I tie those 8' leads from dipsey to spin doc. It's tough to move forward with the hard top and they like to see the fish come to net.
  18. I've heard that some run long leads between dipsey and flasher/dodger and then HANDLINE the fish in to net. I think that would be a recipe for disaster (lost fish) on my boat.
  19. Fred, you're always welcome aboard "DAYBREAK", formerly "STEELHEAD'R". I can't wait to get on the water. We'll probably start the season with the 18' nearshore and then progress to the Crestliner as the season develops.. We may focus on those Erie 'eyes a bit this year. When we fished Erie last year limits came pretty easy.
  20. All good and working as of this am.
  21. Anyone else having problems with the GLA site? It's been about 2 days now with problems.
  22. I bought some ladderbacks from R&R last year. They had a pretty good selection. I think the site is something like www.mytacklebox.com They threw in a suprise spoon with the order! I think LOTSA members may get a discount?
  23. Thanks for the prompt reply Gambler. I guess we'll head out maybe fri/sat. Now all I have to do is finish the gutted but almost completed honeydo bathroom, get both boats ready for lake O, ect, ect.. I GAVE UP ICE FISHIN' TO FINISH THIS BATHROOM REDO AND AM STILL LATE GETTIN' READY FOR "O"! Well, the docks aren't in at the Oak yet so I still have time. Surface temp probably isn't 40 yet.
  24. Anyone know if the 'eyes and pike are running at the south end inlet? We have been going to see the spawn show the last few years and would like to catch this fantastic show again this year. That's if VHS hasn't done a number on the fish.
