Here's a pic of the musky I caught and released sunday. We were mainly casting bulldawgs in and around weed edges and dropoffs. We tried trolling believers without any luck so pretty much casted all day. It gets tough casting 9 inch 3-5oz big baits all day but it was well worth it. Here's a release pic of the one we caught on Sat. This one was a bit bigger than mine. I had one on friday night for a short time but it stayed deep and I never got a look at it. We only had 2-3 follows each day with the 2 fish released. I can't wait to go do that again.I'm Hooked. I wanted to do some walleye fishing at night , but after 11 hours of casting I was beat.

Got out by myself this morning for a couple hours but wasn't out until 8:30. The water was crystal clear except for right in and around the mouth. You could see bottom from 6- 20 fow. Ran J's and lymans with no luck. The surface temp read about 58 degrees. I did see tons of schools of smaller baitfish(emeralds?) and they were everywhere. The guys on the piers said they did alright first thing in the morning. Just wanted to take the boat out 1 last time before I pulled it. Well off to Musky fishing this weekend. First off sorry that I'm a day late guys. Went out on that nice thursday morning and tried the J's and Lymans in close with no takers. Trolled out from 50- 150 ft and had 1 rip on a 7 color core with gold orange crush. We trolled out to about 300ft and got 2 steelies a 9lb'r, and a 3lb'r. Both fish hit purple/glow w/gold back Nk's 50-60 down. My friend was out and it was his first time on Lake O , and he caught the biggest fish(so far) of his life. The surface temp was a bit higher the deeper we got.. We trolled it back in and drifted for bass in 30 fow right in front of the breakwall. We then went to fiddler's elbow and tried for some more bass. My 1 fish of the day was a 4 inch Largemouth. We saw only 1 salmon break water down there, but that was 4 pm. On my way back to the dock we did see more salmon splashing in front of the North. Today (Friday) there were many more kings in the river this A.M. After about 10 today it was pretty rough out there, and the surface temp was down inside. The waves are supposed to calm down on Saturday, but who knows what that will do with the fish. I say if you think you have a derby contending fish. Go and weigh it. PERIOD. All of the standings are posted online daily. It's up to us to know what they are. - ROCK ON -MICK

I will be there a month from now for the first time (chautauqua). I've only caught(and released) one musky up in the islands 5 years ago. Can't wait- Rock on-Mick

My vote is an atlantic. I caught a few stocker browns that size in Olcott, after they released them right before the pro-am, and released them of course. The small browns already had the circles around their spots, and were about the same size as that fish. -Mick

That spoon covers pretty much all the grounds as far as colors go. Black, Green, Green glow, Silver, and depending on the sun gold or silver belly. My wife taped one up on an NK that doesn't show that much green. We will put that one out first the next time we get out on our boat- ( whenever that will be). Rock on -Mick

hey guys. how much to enter? I have to work at 2 on Saturday, but I will sacrifice some sleep to get out fishing. I plan on also fishing Aug 16th. On that day you could actually fish 3 derbies. The Orleans County, The Fall LOC, and The Oak 1 day tourny. - Wow. That's probably about $200.00 just to be in all 3 contests, not including fishing costs for 2 people though.- I'll stop at Narby's or the cove tomorrow to find out unless someone on here already knows the entry fee. My vacation week just coincides with the fall loc and the 16th. As a birthday present my wife has agreed to fish the one day tourney. with me. My only question is how are they going to park everyone at captains cove? Maybee have the ceremony somewhere else? Just a thought. - Mick (at times I'm told it's scary when I think)- Rock ON

At least it's happening now, and not mid august. The nearshore fishery should have a chance to rebound to stratify the thermocline again. The biggest salmon we caught monday had very developed eggs, and I'm sure those fish will run the river regardless of what mother nature brings them. I can't wait till Aug 16th for the one day derby. Stix - You are exactly right. As soon as you kill one , the rest come to feed. Any fish blood anywhere on the boat attracts them bad. Everyone on the boat slapping or swatting at flies is pretty distracting for serious fishing also. I believe they hatch on the water. -Mick

There are already many blue flags on people's antaennas, and outrriggers. It is because they fished the pro- ams. - Mick

Pretty tough today. Out of 40 some boats entered only 14 coolers were weighed I heard. It should be an interesting tournament. Good luck to all- Mick

Team troutman is in it. You might as well as be if you are pre fishing for the tournament. As far as donating money back Ray, many people put in time and work, so if we can win a few bucks -cool right? Hope to see you guys this weekend--Mick.

We didn't win, but I did win the 50/50 raffle after the weigh in. I had to split it with another team member. At least we won the money to enter the Oak Pro-Am next weekend. C-ya there-ROCK ON -Mick

Being an Observer for a team Either Pro or Am is probably one of the best times you could have out fishing Lake O. I have fished on Teams, and observered for teams for over 10 years now. My only advice is to be on time, don't try and give any suggestions(it's very hard when you cannot fish), and just have a good time out on a boat which you usually wouldn't be on . Give your respect to the captain, and remember that you are on their boat for the only reason that the rules for the tournament are kept fair. It is a very good learning experience. Today they even put ALL of the transient/waiting slips in on the west side of the Oak at the launch ramps. High 50's and the lake temp is still mostly around the high 30's, low 40's if you are lucky. I have a 10 hour day putting the docks in for the BLACK NORTH tommorow. This is Mick signing out.

Unfortunatly Ray , Musky, and Tom there isn;t a roaming band of gypsies with banjos , uckelelies, and sitars, that roam Lyntucky. I could play a few hours of Moby Dick by The Mighty ZEPPELIN on my drum set, but that might only put you guys to sleep faster - huh. Good for the port of Wilson for raising the stakes and making it a better competition. We will still be leaving out of Olcott. I'll see ya All there .- Mick
