Got out after ( and in 15 minutes the winds picked up) 9 am. What was once goood water is now gin clear. The only good thing I got out of the trip is that the water is warming a little. 40+ degrees from 4-20 fow. No fish but we only trolled for an hour before it got too rough for my son to be out. Better luck next time. - Mick

Oswego Browns
Mick replied to muskybob's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Thank's Musky. Wer'e gonna give it a try again in the morning. I don't want to move the boat to the Oak yet if there is better fishing out west. Only time will tell. - Mick -
Thank's Bill It's been a long wait. Were going out again in the morning, and I'll post as to how we do. The mud water is almost non existent now so we might head deeper and try to coax the fish in the colder water. We just need the water to warm up a bit. - Mick

Oswego Browns

Way to go Musky. I got out for the first time this year also and MAN DID IT FEEL GOOD. We only caught one but it served 5 of us for dinner. Fresh fish out of almost freezing water can't be beat. The best of luck if you make it out this weekend. Unfortunately I have to work. - Mick -
Trolled out of Golden Hill State Park this morning. My Father in law reeled in the only fish of the day, a 9-10 lb football brown. At first we trolled out to 30 fow and went west towards Olcott and no screen and 35 degree water. The mudline was in 5 fow or less but there was some colored water in 10-20 fow. Tried inline planers, leadcore, flatlines, but the fish hit on the downrigger at 10ft down with a 65 foot lead in 14 fow. From now on my son picks the spoons since he always picks the right ones. The brown hit on a Raider/Red Hook - Manitowoc Sunset. For only an hour and a half trolling I'd say we did well for the first time out this year. We had fun regardless. There is very!!!! cold water out there still. Good luck to all I have to work the rest of the weekend. - Mick

I'd like to see the tiger muskie made from that strain of pike and a St. Lawrence strain Muskie. Man those fish are big. - Mick

I can see the stack at the coal plant near Olcott every day. Many people tell me it's steam, but steam doesn't produce black clouds going east. However I can tell the real direction of the wind by just looking west every day. - Mick

Took my son and daughter down to see the arrival. They were in awe at all the fish. I had never seen the delivery either. My son was ready to bring his fishing pole down to the water, but we took them fishing after we saw the salmon and steelies delivered. Thanks from me to everyone who helps out from the fertilization of the eggs to everthing else. I just want my children to experience what I have been able to in my life. -Mick

After half an hour the kids were getting restless and were ready to go. I thought that might be you, but it didn't register until later. Really nice lookin boat . The salmon we saw delivered were 3-4 inches long. The at the oak site has more info. - Mick

Trolling Bags vs. Plates
Mick replied to Skunk'd Too's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Cool idea Musky. Like you my boat is smaller, I'm sure when not in use they would be great garbage cans with bags. Not very good pee buckets though I troll with a kicker also. - Mick -
He has owned it for over 23 years and I guess is ready for something new. He promised we would be opened until it changes hands. I hope he doesn't close or I'm looking for a new job. I have only fished/ observed a few pro ams and that was with Johhny O on the Troutman. - Mick

I posted this somewhere a while ago but I'll put it back up again. I use this recipe for any trout or salmon. In a foil packet drizzle olive oil or butter/margarine on the bottom of the foil. Place the fillet/ steak on the foil. On the fillet add your favorite white wine, (lake Niagara), a pat of butter or olive oil,a little lemon juice, parsely, and paprika. On top of the fillet add some thinly sliced onions, a little more butter, and brown sugar. Close the packet and grill, bake, or broil untill the fish flakes easily. Fresh caught fish is the best. Enjoy. - Mick

Kings out of the Oak
Mick replied to chinook's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Was back down today. the pens aren't in the water yet. The good news is on the west side there is 1 dock at the launch. On the East side by the North there was only 1 section out from the concrete. It is not that far into the water but hopefully they will put the rest in soon. I'll be back down in the morning and when I get back home I'll let everyone know if they are in. - Mick -

I haven't been back down that way since Saturday. I think they were supposed to get the fish this week. I hope to find out which day and take my son down to see them delivered. -

Like Chinook said all of the pens were together before 10:30 A.M. 1 hour. I guess the little guys are supposed to arrive this week. - Mick -
Like those guys said a good read. And it was about our home waters. Thinking of becoming an outdoor writer? Any day now, and we'll all be fishing. - Mick

Before I clicked on it I thought it was a Muskie. What a Northern. It might be over in Europoe somewhere. The pike over there grow as big as Muskies do over here. I would have been happy catching the one the pike caught. - Mick

Ray the docks aren't in yet on either side of the river at the Oak. If I remember right they put the ones on the west side of the river in first. I think it was the second week in April they went in last year. I'll post as soon as they are in for everyone. - Mick

fishing items for sale
Mick replied to bigkahuna069's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I think L&M is saying that it looks like you only joined the board to sell your items that you have. All of your posts were in the classified section only. Lots of people on the board sell items from time to time but we also share info and stories. That's the impression I got also. - Mick -
I've read before in some outdoors magazines that somewhere out west I think in the snake river (Colorado)? That people actually wrestle in the water with the sturgeon. They must be a different species that don't have the sharp ridges. There are monster sturgeon in the Niagara river and walleye and trout fisherman hook into them every once in a while. But like you guys stated before possesion is illegal in New York.

If they aren't any good eating then why do they keep them? Just for caviar? Looks like you had fun either way. - Mick
