  1. My brother had a 25 foot jet boat powered by a 460 Ford engine, We fished for halibut out of Homer and Seward in the Gulf of Alaska and moose and salmon fishing on the Susitna and Yehtna Rivers. Yes it burned a lot of gasoline but it was a large boat and we trailered it and also burned a lot of gasoline. Still we did not need a guide service we were the guides.
  2. Sunday winds up to 65MPH forecast now.
  3. I saw it on video flying along with no fear of shallows. Hunting or fishing inland waters will give you the speed and cargo space you might need. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. A new boat that is powered by a jet ski power system is out. It is designed to travel over shallow gravel or sand bars in rivers with a windshield protected driver that can stand or sit. This will open up a lot of fishing opportunity inland.
  5. Boatnerd news has a Lakes Level report.
  6. My transducers are within an inch of each other. Only they are not all turned on at the same time. My waypoints saved on my older machines are still available now. I can also back up their use because the old machines show up fish that do not appear on the new machine. I do not know why, maybe ping speeds are different or frequencies are suited better. Keep your old machines available.
  7. Most shipping is sequestered in harbor or anchored up behind lee points due to high winds now.
  8. There are dozens of New York State videos here if you can search them out. Have your waders and a tank of gasoline will take you further than airline tickets to Alaska.
  9. Search out on You Tube for a show on Brown Trout fishing for brown trout on Oak Orchard Creek here in New York State while the Brown Trout return for their fall spawning season. Fly rods and "artificial?" lining are featured. Also is a show on Russian River combat fishing near the Kenai River in Alaska where the daily limit has been increased to nine Red Sockeye salmon daily since the fifty thousand salmon quota for spawning the the Russian River Lake system has been reached. Too many salmon in the lake can collapse the yearly spawning success. A similar fishing with artificial 3X hooks is used there and the red salmon are the finest eating salmon there is. We brine them with a sweetened brine before smoking them and the result called eskimoe candy.
  10. If fishing is guided by "economic impact?" then snagging will be returned.
  11. Our old timer bait shops depend on out of state bait suppliers. If some young gun fellow will go out and start up a bait supplier maybe then our local emerald shiners will be available. Now most of our emeralds are being taken for food by the new Asian refugees.
  12. My Lund and Starcraft had rivet problems. My Crestliner is welded aluminum and is now 18 years old with a solid hull.
  13. Brown trout are not pelagic, water column common but bottom oriented. Always look for them where the thermocline and bottom meet.
  14. True Steelhead Salmon migrate to their native streams in the fall where they over winter there feeding on salmon eggs and carcasses to survive till spring. When the waters warm up they spawn their eggs and milt. About water temperature of 45 degrees F. they return to the Pacific Ocean. Each stream has special markings unlike our hatchery rainbow trout.
  15. Browns will migrate to streams as they spawn in late November.
  16. The Coast Guards on both sides of the lake monitor Channel 16 24 hours a day at dozens of stations. No need for relays and phone calls to delay response times while decisions are made. The new radios have automatic GPS numbers displayed. Your cell phone call may be answered in Canada and another delay is incurred. Your best emergency help to day is your VHF radio. Learn to use it.
  17. With too much bait available why would fish strike your artificial lures?
  18. The cannon ball shows up. That is all.
  19. I tried the braid line with no bad comments.
  20. SW winds blow the warmer water to the NE and cold water upwells and the salmon move NE. If the fish are not on your screen then move to where the screen shows them. Usually the blue water will be on the surface and where the green plankton rich water appears, so will the fish.
  21. Lake Erie has an international fishery control board that issues harvest quotas for walleye and yellow perch takes. When USA states fail to take their quota, their unused quota is added to the Ontario commercial catch quota. Lake Ontario has stocking quotas and when the forage base falls off, the stocking numbers are cut to reflect size development of the salmon. Natural wild hatched numbers are not controlled so possibly our hatchery stocking numbers will be limited. Lakes Michigan and Huron have started to recover now with stocking numbers cut back and the forage base increased. Salmon stocking was started to decrease the alewife and smelt base that died off and littered the waters. If you want forty pound salmon to return then you will see cuts in the salmon stocking here.
  22. Unemployed fishermen can hardly afford the gasoline to get there. After election day reality will hit a lot more people.
  23. Casting spoons, spinners and Rapala stick baits work. If you can handle using bait minnows and fish eggs, especially brown trout eggs work. Deep Husky Jerk Rapalas cast from shore work all winter long, even on the upper river.
  24. The Metro Toronto area with its six million residents dumps enough warmed up waste water locally to render wild salmon propagation almost useless in nearby waters.
  25. When we fished Fall river Kings in Alaska, the most used lures were Hot and Tots along with Wiggle Warts.casting them out, rapid cranking to get them deep, slow cranking back to the boat or shore. Possession of salmon eggs then is a violation.
