"Justify the expense?" There is no justification with a boat, just do it. It is what you want today, you just satisfy today's impulse.
-
Not too worry, Canada has deep water ports, ships, etc. and they can put them into our side of the lake.

A couple weeks ago the perch were going great guns out of the Cattaraugus Creek and Evangola Park. Then things have slowed as the perch are suspending now and getting ready to spawn. The migrating perch should start shortly off Sturgeon Point where the lake narrows down to about nine miles. Just make sure the marina is open as it was being dredged. About a third of the fish are real lunkers so get in on it when they start back up.

Big boats are giving way to small boats due to the cost of gasoline and the economy. I know of 65 foot fish tugs that use 180 HP diesels every day. The days of flying out on the water are coming to an end. Get used to 12 MPH boats. Time is cheaper than gasoline.

The do gooders are wanting catalytic converters on inboard gasoline engines and the high temperatures and costs are making inboard engines too expensive to sell and install.

Going out alone or with a couple guys, inlines are more affordable. They take up less room in a small boat and produce as well as any other boards. You can use them with leadcore line fine and that system controls your depth while getting your lures away from the boat. Also rubber bands on weights get your line down where you need it. I have not used my Cannon Mast and otter boards for a few years now. Church Boards are good also. Just make sure when you buy them you get boards for both sides of the boat.

Well now you know the problem with the lifetime licenses. The goofs spend the money as fast as it comes in. Then next year they hammer the guys who can not afford a lifetime license with higher fees to make up for the lifetime license losses to the revenue stream. Albany does not understand "pay as you go", They only know spend it now while I am in office.

We need to get some dredging done now, things will get worse, not better.

In South Carolina, on Santee Cooper Reservoir, I saw a guy come in with his 21 foot Jon boat. He had 12 rod holders on each side for a total of 24 on the boat. He was a catfisherman and he had an 80 pound catfish. I guess they know better down South.

Help with water level I-Bay State Launch
jimski2 replied to momay4000's topic in Open Lake Discussion
The water is deep enough, it is the ramps that are too shallow and the channels need dredging. We have no control over the water, the ramps and channels are what we may have to work on. It does not look any better for the rest of the year, this is as good as it is going to be. Lake Erie can not help, it is at its lowest since the 1930's. -

Remember that the people who can not operate these facilities properly and fiscally responsible will be the first to lose their jobs. They should be the answer to the problem, not Albany. Maybe they do not need summertime college kids, cutting all the grass. Automatic gates could collect gate fees. Users could take their garbage home. -
Lake Erie is at its lowest in all my life at this time when it usually is at its highest level of the year. Like the economy and gasoline prices, this is as good as it is going to get.

The Blue will give you a trip to the can in Canada. They are very serious about alcohol in a boat.

We also must act to prevent privitization of the areas by some State Senator like the Douglaston Run on the Salmon River. -

If New York State can not use and operate it, then it should be disposed of by auction with public agencies bidding given preference. If no public agency wants it then a not for profit agency, then private operators have the opportunity to operate. A contingency clause shall require boat launching, marina operation open to the public or it reverts to the state. If the property is sold, mortgaged, subject to a law action, then it reverts to the state where ir could be passed onto another operator. This should be for all parks and recreation areas being closed due to Albany's dysfunction in handling its affairs. I am certain that these areas can be kept open to the public without losing "money" as the legislature in Albany claims. Our next act will be to recover from Albany all the money they budgetted for these money loser parks every year. We can not let them steal it for their member items to get re elected. -
Cabela's has another bar that you bend to fit your boat's engines. I have been using it for a year now and am satisfied with it. It connects the steering arms and allows tilting engines separately. I picked it up after three EZ Steer connecting rods went apart and swimming at a very high cost.

It is best to cross over the bridges and then fish Canadian waters. Then all your legals should be easier to handle.
-
Do not anchor, touch another boat or touch shore. If you do, the USCG, Border Patrol and Customs guys are looking to justify their jobs. You should report in at the video phones that may be inconvenient for you and take a lot of your time to reach. Actually for all the hassle, you may just want to avoid going to Canadian waters. Keep your GPS trails on so as to show you avoided Canadian waters. Oh, and the Canadian guys can get you for illegal entry also.

Does anyone know how to register a trailer in Maine? They have 10 year plates and are cheaper.

Town of Somerset wind symposium!!!

We have these monsters in Lackawanna and they were going to put more up but then the taxes thing came up. So our "Power" authority guys came up with this scheme to screw the local taxpaying property owners and the local jurisdictions out of their possible income. The non taxpaying power guys will use New York State's Bonds to pay for putting these things up on non taxpaying under water lands owned by New York State. You see how desparate NY has become with speeding tickets being handed out by the millions daily so why not hijack this alleged source of possible revenues to keep Albany and its "Black Hole" budget solvent enough to cash their paychecks. It will be interesting to see how the politicians respond when they shut down the Somerset Power Plant and its local taxes disappear. -
The smelt will decimate all the cold water fry and fingerlings like Lake Trout, White Fish, Ciscoes, Emerald Shiners, even May Flies and other nymphs. They are the worst critter out there. We need to keep their numbers down.

I watched steelhead rainbow trout in Alaska and it seemed they followed the salmon up the streams to feed on the salmon eggs. They would overwinter in the streams and lakes feeding on the eggs and around the end of February, they would stop feeding. When the streams reached about 42 degrees fahrenheit, they spawned their eggs and milt. With empty innards they then headed back to the sea and gorged on anything they could eat.

How old you are and how long will you use the boat are points to ponder. If your marine plywood floor lasted 15 years, would another 15 years not be long enough?

It is a good law. Think of it this way, so you will not be rescued alive, but authorities will find your remains faster. Your wife, children and her new boyfriend will be able to spend your life insurance proceeds faster.

The Power Authority wants to hijack the money paid to farmers for putting windmills on their property. Have not they taken enough money from the power projects on Niagara and Saint Lawrence rivers.
