  1. As Al Gore learned when he lost his home state of Tennesee in his presidential bid, 80% of American homes have a gun in them.
  2. Using braided line has eliminated my need for downriggers. I can easily reach 100 foot of water trolling with a 3 ounce sinker, 30# braid and spoons, etc.
  3. After WW2, the Russians took over Hungary. There were no gun registration laws so they went to City Halls, took down the names of those who had hunting licenses and rounded up all the guns. It would be even easier here, hunting license owners and NRA members would be targeted by a few clicks on a computer.
  4. Use your search for "boat hard tops". Lots of ideas there.
  5. I reported that the alcohol fumes from my gas tank dissolved my downrigger plastic cover, my worm harness beads and the glue that holds my carpet to the plywood floor. Keep your gas tank vents closed and remember to open them up when you start your engine.
  6. I use my Cannons and swing the arm forward. The Otter Boards pull good with the downrigger cable and are easily reached from the deck. Push the switch up and in they come.
  7. http://www.fuel-testers.com/is_gas_addi ... _list.html More gasoline stuff
  8. No coal or oil have to be transported, mined, imported and waste smoke to be dealt with in the future.
  9. Lake Simcoe out of Port Bolster, Randy's huts put us on perch and whitefish Dozens of others on this lake. 50 perch limit daily. A lot of websites in Canada have been hijacked, so you have to search around a bit.
  10. I was at a ---- Marine Store yesterday and they have a good deal on the HD5 unit. The appealing thing is it is loaded with the charts we need. Following the shoals and dropoffs looks good.
  11. Yes, they are on the shore and the pay taxes to the local community, not like the Power? Authority. Just wait till they shut down the Tonawanda and Dunkirk Power Plants and hear the local taxpayers scream when their property taxes skyrocket.
  12. Two machines are better than one. With the cost of new charts, you might as well get a new machine and when one goes down, or you have a problem, you can compare what is going on. At least you will not lose a day of fishing and that is what is important.
  13. The financing of this scheme with bonds obligated to be guaranteed by the taxpayers of New York State stinks. Communities will lose out on tax revenues and private property owners will lose out on revenues. But another New York State Public Authority will further its lifespan.
  14. I can not do it yet, too old. The bungy cord is around the two motor arms and the hooks are clipped together.
  15. The EZ Steer arm that connects the motors has a habit of coming disconnected. Then you lean over the stern and drop part of it into the lake. Very expensive to replace the arm. I solved some of these problems by wrapping a bungy cord between the standing brackets which keeps the motors turned togrther better.
  16. This is just anither E10 problem. Remember it takes 10 gallons of ethanol to give you the same energy as six gallons of gasoline. And you wonder why your fuel bill is so high.
  17. This is an attempt by an agency to further its longevity. To operate and install the windmills on the water requires a multi million dollar ship that could jack itself up in the lakes silt bottom. Underwater bases and tall towers have to be constructed. Underwater powerlines would be strung all over restricting the use of anchors by small craft. The revenue stream generated by the agency would be stolen from property owners and jurisdictions that would benefit if the towers were built on shorelines and ridgelines inland. I like the windpower systems, but putting them in control of another government beaurocracy is not needed. The maintence of the turbines bearings and blades would be fiscally irresponsible out on the open waters. The North Sea has these towers and their finances should be reviewed.
  18. We bottom bounce in Lake Erie for walleye in August with three ounce sinkers and twenty pound braid and worm harnesses. Eighty foot is easy to reach with the braid. No riggers are needed. Usually we set out two dipseys on braid and two bottom bouncers.
  19. 106 foot of water at 1.2 knots.
  20. As I was tarping up my scow for the winter, my Cannon downrigger which was laying on the carpet became stuck to the carpet. The carpet came loose from the floorboards where it is glued down. The plastic case of the rigger was dissolved and stuck to the carpet. The rigger still works but the area where it was stuck is deformed. I then pulled up my worm harnesses and the plastic beads were also stuck to the carpet. I had to use my knife to separate them. I noticed my six gallon fuel can had the vent on top open and I believe the fumes that are heavier than air caused the plastic to deteriorate. I pulled the fuel cans out of the boat and put the gasoline in my truck. I do not think I have any other solvents in the boat. What do you think happened?
  21. This not about life jackets. It is about "death jackets". When I was in the Coast Guard we recovered many bodies. In the summer time, when the water temperatures were high, a body would float up in about 72 hours. In the winter time, it may take up to 30 days to float up. The relatives will get closure faster, their insurance claims settled faster and search agencies can get back to the regular routines faster.
  22. Clean bare aluminum needs a wash primer, then after an hour drying, use a primer. Then paint your finish coat. For the bottom, especially if you leave the boat at the dock, do not use any paint with cuprous oxide as the copper reacts with the aluminum. Painting an aluminum boat is different than glass or steel. Do not depend on the minimum wage guys at a marine store for guidance. Search the internet for guidance on painting aluminum boats.
  23. A point needed, if you are not underway, you must be tied to a dock or anchored. Drifting is still considered underway.
  24. Metal Lock company in Buffalo repairs cracks in castings using new matal inserted into the crack.
  25. This time of year, the trout are getting set to spawn. Their innards are full of spawn stuff and there is little room for feed. After the spawn happens, they go on the feed ravenously. The rainbows are in the streams now to feed on the eggs, etc. They spawn in the spring and when the water reaches 45 degrees, they head back to the lake. The rainbows shut down on their feeding in February.
