    burning rubber

How about wire insulation melting somewhere? The exhaust manifold is watercooled but maybe the starter and its wiring melted?
  2. Clear water allows sunlight to reach deeper and now another problem. An algae that mussels do not eat.
  3. Here are some short videos of salmon fishing and cleaning. Also halibut stuff. Scroll down to the outdoors section and click on the "Fishing Dude Video". www.adn.com
  4. Are the engine mount stringers rotted out? If they are, all the repairs are useless till the engine mounts are firmed up. The old stringers have to pulled out and new Douglas Fir stringers installed and glassed in place. Also the stringers must be aligned properly when you put them in place.
  5. The west coast watersheds evolved their own strains of Rainbows, now classed as salmon. Some of the Alaskan northern strains have spots like a leopard. The term "Steelhead" used locally here in New York sounds like it is more "macho" and is used to derive more interest.
  6. The price is now $12,000. A lot of boat for the price.
  7. The boat is on the dock at the Buffalo River Marina, next to the Coast Guard Base. The name is "Cygan Viz" on the stern. Power is a 440 Chrysler. My cell # is 716 348 6379.
  8. Located in Buffalo, even if you don't leave the dock, it is a fine waterfront home without the high property tax assessment and winter utility costs.
  9. There is a difference in some "Perko" switches. Some of them have an alternator disconnect switch that shuts off the alternator when you change the battery selection. This is to protect the alternator.
  10. Did you have the contol lever in neutral?
  11. For the last week of July, I would fish out of The Cattaraugus Creek and waters westward for walleye. The years highest water temperatures drive the fish to deep waters, usually over 70 feet. Dipsey Divers and snap weights will get your worm harnesses and plugs deep enough. The ideal spots are on the Canadian Border if you want to go out that far.
  12. When retrieving your boat with a roller trailer, only put the trailer in the water to submerge the end rollers. When you pull with the winch, the boat will follow the rollers up and the wind will not screw you up. Too many guys try to float their boat on the roller trailer and end up with a crooked retrieve.
  13. Use 10 gauge copper wire for your VHF to get optimal performance. You need to draw over 2 and a half AMPS to transmit full power and 12 Volts can't push it with a lighter gauge wire. Wire your radio direct to the battery with the fuse next to the battery.
  14. Any container used for storing food such as fish must be sanitized, and like using lake water is akin to using sewage for rinsing it. Clorox and detergents will do a good job, hot water helps in rinsing it. So don't mount it permanently, take it to where you can clean it effectively.
  15. I count the numbers of boats around me and this season is the least amount of boats out there ever. It must be the gasoline prices.
  16. www.kiteforsail.com Maybe we can use the sailboard kites?
  17. Browns like structure, meaning the bottom. Spoons hang up on the bottom, meaning lost time and tackle. Stickbaits float up when you slow down or stop saving you time and lures.
  18. Put all your connections on one battery that is charged up by the main engine. If your graph has a voltage indicator, it will show you its charge condition. Use the other battery as a safety charging battery if you go dead. I now use a single battery and am getting along fine. Your main engine can be started with the emergency pull rope, try it.
  19. I am running Stren Superbraid with no problems. It has a plastic coating rather than the waxy coating that Power Pro has. The wax wears off and the line fuzzed up making it a flea magnet.
  20. It's not that there are no salmon there. When the water temperature gets right, the salmon go on the feed. There probably more salmon off other places now, it's just the water temperatures have not turned on their metabloism yet. The Niagara River flume with its warmer Lake Erie waters flowing out turn on the fish there now. Look at the lake surface water temperature map and you will see what is going on now.
  21. Browns are a tough target. They are near shore now until the water temperatures reach into the 60's, then they stage near the bottom where the thermocline meets it. Stickbaits are usually used.
  22. Rainbows and Brown trout are stocked in Lake Erie. Lake Trout are sometimes stocked by the Federal Agencys when they get there production on line. The browns are a usually found on the bottom where the temperature is right, rainbows stage in the water column where the bait are and the right temperatures are.
  23. Chanel 14 if or ship to ship and canal operations on the Welland and Black Rock Canals.
  24. Some battery switches have an alternator field disconect switch as part of the switch. With this feature you can change batterys while the engine is running.
  25. There will be a trend to using smaller boats and smaller tow vehicles to counter the gasoline price rise. When I grew up, we used 14 to 16 foot boats and did well. The world is changing and we need to change with it.I went to Ohio last month and found 32 foot Marinette cabin cruisers going for less than $5,000. The scrap aluminum in the boat is worth more than that.
