Lake Michigan Giant kings this year!!!
jimski2 replied to Inthebox30lbs's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Do a study on Pacific Herring and how they are the forage for Chinook Salmon. Our Alewives are tiny compared to Herring. The Herring are many years older and larger. Our alewives are a poor substitute for natural wild herring. When the salmon stocking program started it had its main target Coho salmon. The were down graded for Chinooks since “Size Matters “. Lake Michigan Giant kings this year!!!

At Ketchikan, AK I saw a photo of a 120 pound Chinook taken in a fish trap. They fed then on Herring which spawned in prodigious numbers. Maybe the do gooders will be happy stocking Pacific Herring. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
The fish travel to water temperatures that they desire. Cold bottom temperatures can have low dissolved oxygen levels do to decay of plants and other dead organic life. At about 39 degrees water temperature colder water rises to the surface Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app That is why ice floats and warmer water is on the bottom for fish etc. to live in.

Cold water upwells. Warm water stacks to the bottom . The high winds moves warm surface waters to stack them to the bottom on the lee shore. Those waters are replaced by colder bottom waters to the surface. When the high winds stop, the water temperatures return to their natural state. After months of restricted lake access due to record high lake levels here is a simple solution. After over forty years of operation this site works with minimal operating costs. An old steel flatbed trailer is backed into the lake from a concrete structure. According to the lake water level it is placed to about a four foot depth . Most trailer boats up to twenty four foot length are functional even with a power tilt reverse to reach better depth. The trailer is handled with chains from the bucket. The bucket clears sand and gravel from storms. Vehicle and trailers are stored in a parking area. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Sodus Point Public Launch Dock - Re: input

At Point Breeze on Lake Erie an old steel flat bed trailer is backed into the open lake with a large front end loader. It worked this way for forty years now. During storms , high or low Water conditions it works. This year due to high waters the double axle was replaced by a single axle and a three foot section to raise the deep end in the lake. Up to four boats are handled here at one time. Two trailers are used . Sent from my e er’s r rthereghbwr.tapatalk.comeb/forms byo?rid=74288]end in the lake thrO United was mobileee app[/tbud a -

Deer hunting participants have diminished in my lifetime. Opening day car counts have fallen for the seventy mile drive to our camp have fallen from hundreds of parked cars roadside to seven cars last season in my sixty past years of hunting deer. The reason is all the “cityots” purchased the farmlands, built residential property and shooting a firearm nearby is unlawful. Now more deer are killed by the “cityots” traveling to the city for employment. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Port of Rochester or Sandy creek launches open?
jimski2 replied to letsfish2day's topic in Open Lake Discussion
A lot of trailer boats pay gasoline taxes that could be used for boat launches. Registration fees and sales taxes on marine supplies could be used for launch services. Professional football, base ball, basketball teams get millions and millions of tax dollars annually. Come on compare the tax dollars spent on other sport facilities with police and other service costs every game. Launch ramp services are minuscule compared other tax dollar expenditures. Port of Rochester or Sandy creek launches open?

Money maker???? There are 480,000 trailer boats in New York State. They all paid sales taxes when first registered, fuel taxes, registration fees and more. How can they BS us. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
With our hot weather our power system cut our local power system voltage to 107 volts as New York City customers needed our local power for their customers. This caused higher amperage to supply the wattage needed for our air conditioning systems. Think of the dozens of power plants shut down for smoke. We need replacement power now and it will be wind or solar. Europe is way ahead of us and the obstructionists are causing big problems. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I fished Lake Erie with gill nets for fourteen seasons. The Canadians use harvest size specific meshes that target safe size perch and walleyes. Their perch harvested are eight to ten inches in length to avoid contamination accumulation in their flesh and sixteen to eighteen inch length for health care reasons. Hook and line sport fishing focus on the largest length and weights. Something is wrong here. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Again it is the worship of large fish that is the problem. Stay out of the large fish contests. Dump the slobs, keep the “good eaters”. Let common sense decide your catch, not the big fish promoted by the media and contests. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

You can paint a name on the transom of your boat but it will not be private. Put your numbers on the bow and they are yours privately. That is all that is necessary. Take the name registration fees and put the money in your fuel tank. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
