The worship of large fish with money contests and media reports contributed to consumption of unhealthy amounts of chemicals. Harvesting smaller fish like perch should be promoted for consumption rather than the taking larger specimens that should be released. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

The falls flow is maxed up to politician determined number for tourist season. The rest of the water is used for power demand. The unused water is pumped into reservoirs to supply power for high demand periods. The Saint Lawrence Power project supplied power to the Massena aluminum plant that was closed and shipped to Canada. Any more power needed comes from Somerset coal burning plant. Last year it operated for three days. Oswego nuclear plants supply some power to the grid. The lights in New York City will burn bright every night at the cheapest cost. With the fleas, 30# mono is necessary. Especially with dipsey divers or large flashers 30# leaders are necessary and if the big one hits you are safer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

A big problem is the construction of fixed dock structures. Movable docks can be set where they work. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Flat bed trailer truck bodies can easily be placed to serve as boat docks. They are 48 foot long and eight foot wide and can serve in high or low water conditions. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

People who steal stuff from boats or trailers

Bearing Buddies fail more often than simple grease cups. Jack up your wheel and spin it. If it growls or is noisy, replace it with new fresh packed grease , preferably high temperature disc brake synthetic grease. Over greasing a bearing set causes heat and bearing failures . If you are a “candy ass” who does not like to get your hands dirty, pay someone to do it. Most important stay away from bearing busting buddies. At Point Breeze on Lake Erie we have used for the past thirty years a flat bed truck trailer. Low or high water, it is placed to launch boats. Storm weather it is pulled out of the water. The front end loader does the job and maintains the depth. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

When my trailer bearing failed I saw in the rear view mirror my trailer tire wobbling loose. I stopped and took the wheel off . Pounded the bearing races off. Picked up a new bearing set at a parts store. The sales guy said take a set of this paste that hardened like a rock it held the race tightly in the wheel hub . I greased the race with blue high temperatures bearing grease. Made it though a couple seasons with the quick fix. The anaerobic compound saved the price of a new axle plus a lot of repair shop time an overhead. The blue disc brake grease is better than the old brown grease that failed. Charlie Gloff was a Commercial Fisherman in Dunkirk, NY. He told me that the smelt became so heavy in the 1950's that his whitefish gill nets were so numerous that it was next to impossible to remove them. The price for whitefish then was high but the smelt with their tiny teeth fouled his large mesh nets. Eventually all the whitefish, ciscoes, blue pike and lake trout of the colder summer waters disappeared. The smelt consumed all the fry and small and little reproducing fish that by the 1960's Lake Erie was considered a dead lake. I t was not dead, just full of the wrong fish. Sport fishing interests were using commercial fishing for the sport fishing demise. Government agencies failed to properly report conditions possibly anticipating the recovery of sport fishing license revenues. The Ontario Commercial Fishing Groups began to harvest the smelt masses by converting their boats to trawlers by 1965. The smelt were mainly packed in ice and airlifted to Asian markets with their massive populations from the Detroit Airport. Shortly after the smelt harvesting began in Lake Erie the sport fishing numbers returned and the stocking of trout and salmon of survival size began and sport fishing helped with another control of the smelt population. I saw a tawler go out with a two man crew in March at dawn and return with the decks full of smelt at ten AM. the ten ton load of fish were paid ten cents a pound then. A fair day's pay then.

Fishing is about catching fish to eat. Contests, catch and release and other frivolous actions to fish are not the use for fish. But we find a a necessary deal to worship them like a “god” . Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
