  1. If we really want 40 pound salmon, then we should release 20 to 25 pound salmon early in the year when they would have a few months to increase their weight. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Large salmon require a balanced harvest of all sizes of stocked fish. I remember a photo of a 120 pound King Salmon in Ketchikan taken in 1912. Today too many salmon are returned to the lake for being undersized, catch and released practice, foolish conservation measures and increased stocking numbers. Emerald shiner numbers are not studied, just alewives.Smelt are not studied also and the total forage is unknown . Just returning small fish is shooting your self in the foot if larger salmon is your desired catch. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. The damn do gooders with damn limits have over stocked the lake and too many fish have too little food to grow larger. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. The Mississippi and Missouri Rivers flow to the Gulf of Mexico. The rain they have should not have much effect on the Great Lakes. Still Lakes Michigan, Huron, St. Clair and Erie are high today and that is coming to Lake Ontario. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Barcelona Harbor on Lake Erie had a similar failure of its breakwater a couple years ago. A repair project and dredging was done by contractors for the Army Corps of Engineers. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. A major cause of the damage is due to a record high lake level.
  7. Steelheads are not “god”. They should not be worshiped. They should be harvested for food. With out a proper management scenario problems will arise. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Launching at Fort Niagara in March there is a warm water outfall from the waste water plant just east of the Fort that has a lot of brown trout stacked up in front of it. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  10. The Bar is not like Lake Ontario Fishing. It is warmer water Lake Erie water. Nutrient rich and oxygenated by the falls and power plants a higher metabolism rate is present resulting in a greater feed rate. The high planktons feed the bait brings fry and minnows that feed the salmon and trout populations keeping them nearby and in the flume that extends along the south shoreline past Wilson and Olcott. 11. One time while fishing the Niagara Bar dropoff where the bottom goes from 55 foot to over 200 foot, I played with my X16 paper graph. It showed good fish down to 100 foot and no fish deeper. Changing the frequency and pulse length showed a greater amount of fish from 100 to 200 foot down which we believed was devoid of fish. The problem is our Sonar machines are set up for popular fishing depths. Lake Ontario’s depths of 600 foot are under fished because our Sonar units are not set up for greater depths. With crystal clear water and bright blue bird skies the salmon and trout move to these greater depths to avoid the sun’s penetrating rays. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. This is similar to Red Salmon fishing on the Kenai and Russian rivers in Alaska. Combat fishing at its finest. The catch does not hurt the reproduction but improves things as an over escapement of salmon results in a poor production of healthy returns. The salmon and trout taken here are non native species that need to be regulated since their numbers result in poor forage results for future years,
  13. They are chipping away at organized sportsmen here. “Not Fish” is dividing our numbers. Eventually the do gooders will take away your life style. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. The US Coast Guard fined the Chicago operator of two 34 foot boats $80,000 for illegal charter boat operation. $49,000 for certificate of inspection failure, $22,000 for crew chemical test failure and $14,000 for stability test failure. Lake Ontario water level is now 16 inches higher than last season at this time.
  15. Tree hugging California do gooders stopped logging there. Now after half the state burned up this year, they crawled back in the ashes.
  16. Do gooder control freaks stick their nose into any issue that does not effect themselves. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I was a commercial fisherman on Lake Erie for fourteen years . The media crucified us for everything. They turned public opinion against until we were unemployed. Meanwhile the USA imports three trilllion dollars of seafood annually. People with screw ball ideas usually end up getting their way because the media falls for their stupid ideas especially when wildlife and fish are involved. Do not sit back and let uninformed people take over the media and the fake news they put out . Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  20. Switching the battery switch with an engine running causes a surge in battery voltage and your engine diodes blow out under the hi voltage. See the warnings on all the cheap switches displayed. There are switches with the engine charging automatically disconnecting the diodes before the battery is disconnected . Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  23. A one foot antenna good for about a mile of range under ideal conditions. But two antennas eight foot of height above the surface of the water usually only reach thirty miles of range. Shore side antennas reach a lot farther. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
