  1. There you go, catch and release loads up the unharvested fish numbers and the forage base is unable to support the over stocked lake. Damn do gooders still want to cut back the fish harvest. We need to harvest the fish instead of releasing them. We need to educate the size, season, quota promoters as they are the problem for our regulations. 2. Less rules we need.I believe our fishery rules should be made to increase public participation. Closed seasons , catch limits, size limits and other do gooder ideas result in less public use and local controls for their private use. Our hatchery production is decreased because the growth rates have become stunted. We need license sales to support our DEC operations, not less fishing opportunity.

  5. The red rubber bands work well with light lines. If not try the brown rubber bands. They break away from the release and are cleaned free when the line comes onto to the reel. Also rubber bands work well on downrigger releases. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  8. Alaska State Troopers double as DEC Officers. With a greater area to cover response times are quicker. Same pay, pensions and healthcare. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Steelheads are salt water survivors. Their river system where they develop in are developed in have different traits . Some have leopard coloration. Maturing in saltwater develop survival traits that fresh water matured rainbows fail to develop. But if you want call them Steelhead that is ok also. 10. Two riggers, two dipseys, four in-line planers are enough for me. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Really? That has not happened to me. Not having to lean out over the transom is more dangerous. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. DEC was shooting shags on Motor Island in the Niagara River while they nested there with 22’s. Did a number on them. But not for fishery reasons but they killed the trees. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Driving to Allegany County Friday afternoon for Saturday’s deer gun season opener, I joined A convoy of vehicles heading south loaded with “cityots” heading to their deer camps. Escaping their home rulers is their main objective, the deer are secondary. Every seat in the Belfast restaurant was taken with wall to wall guys enjoying their preseason dinner and schmoozing with old friends. The transformation of the local grass widows was missing. No new hairdos and sneakers were to be seen so the presence of many“old coots” ran them off. By 8:30 PM the crowd disappeared and it was early bed time for the dawn opening. 14. If you mount the rigger more forward, they are easier to service and safer since you do not stretch so far over board.
  15. You have to be aware that that the Niagara River is actually Lake Erie waters, not Lake Ontario which are warmer later and earlier each spring and fall. They are also nutrient richer and feed the forage greater than other areas of Lake Ontario. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. The original forage trawls were conducted by Lake Erie commercial fishermen who specialize on smelt. Maybe the college boys lack the life experience to produce fish as the fellows who make their living trawling. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. On the West Coast Steelhead and Dolly Varden survive on salmon eggs and dead salmon flesh during the winter. In the spring after spawning and empty bellies they return to saltwater when stream temperatures reach 45 degrees and they feed voraciously. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  20. I use the sticky mouse paper. It has some grain sprinkled on it and the mice are dead and dried out in the spring. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Shallow water graph use is difficult as the transducer on the back of the boat has a smaller cone signal and fish flee from the Moving boat above them. Flatlining behind the boat is almost useless also as the fish flee away from the boat . Using long lines off planer boards or inline planer boards is highly effective since your lures are away to where you have herded the fish away from the moving boat. 23. My brother guided an angler on the Deschka River to a sixty pound King Salmon. The maximum sized average king salmon size rather than too small average size. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. With all the rivets exposed, fill the hull with water. Look for weeping rivets or leakers. Fix them first. Check the transom brace for cracks. A good solid 3/4 inch decks next Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  25. The failure to determine forage failure is a lack of considering the effects of walleyes, bass, perch, whitefish and others on the forage base. Back when the health advisories came out, the harvest of many species ended. No studies have been announced on them yet the only attention is the salmon, trout, species. Studies should indicate the complete biomass to be credible. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
