  1. The commercial salmon trollers in the Pacific immediately cut the gills and eviscerate the carcass to prepare the salmon for quality at the dinner table. They are bled out and the gurry is is removed to prevent tainting the flesh. Immediately afterward the fish is iced down or better yet flash frozen and dipped in fresh water to encase the fish in an ice glaze. This insures safe consumption to the public of the fish. Our rules of fish cleaning stations is a dangerous action to the public. The holding of a fish in an ice filled cooler for hours exposes the flesh to gurry and fluids, bacteria and unnecessary spoilage. Someday a lawsuit will happen and a lot of finger pointing will happen and states regulations will be the cause.
  2. An additional ten inches of water flowing in the St. Mary's and Detroit Rivers will have an effect on Lake Erie levels. It dos not compute that less water will enter Lake Ontario no matter what the long winded publicists try to delay action.
  3. Last spring Canadian Hydro put into service a twelve foot tunnel under the City of Niagara Falls, ON to generate more power for Canada. That must have another flow calculation for Lake Ontario. It is what it is, prepare for this season and get floating docks to handle whatever happens now.
  4. Yes, but really you can not think things will get better any sooner. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. Lake Superior is +6 inches above 3/1/2017 now. Michigan/Huron Lakes Level .+10 inches above 3/1/2017 level. Realize no matter what the Commision says, all that water is coming down to Lake Ontario.
  6. Great early spring fishing here for salmon. When the ice clears from Port Colborne, warm Lake Erie water turns on the salmon feed here earlier than the Niagara Bar. Good lunch ramp operations here.
  7. Deeper water has few gobies, shale bottom is not good in warm waters. 55 foot and deeper has fewer gobies. Get out in the mud bottom with worm harnesses near the bottom in Lake Erie.
  8. Cabelas, now owned by Bass Pro is selling Bass Pro boats at its store in Cheektowaga, NY.
  9. I used a large plastic cutting board available at kitchen supply stores. A mixture of epoxy is applied and the board is through bolted above the water line. Stainless screws hold well in the cutting board and do not penetrate your hull below the water line. You can change transducers dozens of times. It is flush mounted to the bottom edge of the boat's hull. The epoxy is needed as at high speeds water is caught up and sprays out from the sides of the board.
  10. The old cedar strip planked 14 foot wooden boats always had the motor taken off on any road towing. The motor was stored in the trunk of the car.
  11. Off shore wind power means revenue to the state while thousands of property and townships see the revenues from wind power turbines as game changers to their tax rates.
  12. Bow and Stern Marine has a bracket with remote electric steering on it. Great for single handed fishing.
  13. Take the time to search out trolling motor steering and throttle control to make an informed decision on your purchase. There are several types out there available. Also there are videos on installation you may want to learn from.
  14. Panther makes an electric steering control that is remotely operated from any where in the boat. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. There is a kicker bracket that has a remote steering motor on it. The control is a hand held fob where when you are fishing alone you can stand in the stern area, handle your lines and steer your boat. It is best to operate down wind.
  16. An up welling of bottom lake water. The physical property of water is it becomes denser or heavier around thirty nine degrees F. That is why ice rises to the surface as it becomes colder and fish do not freeze under the ice. An offshore wind blows the cold surface water away and the bottom water rises to the surface. In summer conditions the colder bottom water rises to the surface during off shore wind events. Ice fishing in Lake Ontario bays is dangerous as the warmer bottom water can rise up and melt the ice from below also.
  17. I do not try it. I get interference at times from boats a hundred feet away. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  19. Lake Superior remains eight inches above average levels now. Last year at this time it was thirteen inches above average level. This is not really good news for Lake Ontario levels yet. With maximum flow out of Lake Ontario it takes a week to drop things a total of one inch. If you want the lake to drop thirty six inches, it will be Thanksgiving to be normal unless the snow melt and rain waters are higher. Be prepared for the same conditions again this year.
  20. With the two units it is a full screen plotter and a full screen sonar. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. Install the other transducer and with the menu buttons you can shut the sonar off on one. The other sonar will run clean and you now have the option to start up the other if needed. Also you can choose the better operating one for normal use. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. I used red wood for the boards, does not rot in water. With toilet base screws inserted in the top for the spreader bars and wing nuts, i can collapse the boards to take up less space in the boat. The base screws have a screw thread on one end for inserting in the board and machine threads on the other end for tightening the spreader bars.
  23. A fault with government agency testing methods is they are set by calendar dates and set up stations. The fish do not know what day it is and are responding to water conditions not the calendar. Some years they are where you expect them on that date, some years they are not. Maybe more surveys taken will result in better conclusions.
  24. Charter boat operators have large crews of fishermen handling three lines apiece. Often they win a lot of contests. Younger, energetic mates help this to happen.
  25. The small gauge wire will only carry so much amperage and to carry twenty five watt power on transmission you need heavier gauge wire. You will hear a boat calling you at a long distance but your return call back is weak. Your radio needs only one watt of power to receive but twenty five watts to transmit.
