  1. Operating your outboard without a water source will damage the rubber impeller in your cooling water pump. A quick crank it over seems to have worked for me for years now. I have never fogged the engine ever and got away with that. My old Evinrude 90 HP lasted 26 years now. Still I installed a new Mercury 90 HP four stroke last fall. I hope it will last half as long. Many trips on the lower Niagara in below freezing conditions had no damage as the engine drained at the ramp and a quick crank over cleared any possible freezing water sites.
  2. Check out the great video in here regarding battery maintenance and use.
  3. You can win by using the free covered parking. January is a snow month.
  4. Attending all the seminars will take a couple days. The Seneca Casino across the street has rooms and covered parking so check out hotel reservations now.
  5. For Lake Erie walleyes just add 100 yards of 12 to 20 pound test flourocarbon leaders to your reels. Rubber band or snap weights will get you down deep enough whether you are using worm harnesses , spoons or stickbaits. Losing your planer board is expensive and difficult to retrieve if your line breaks though so set your drags and do not jerk your pole to set the hooks. The fish will hook themselves with the drag from the line and boards.I use 20# line and it fishes well and has the security of not breaking off.
  6. Prime clean aluminum with an etching primer. There is a below water primer for moored boats then added. A finish cost is your choice. Loose rivets can be replaced with a larger sized river after resizing the hole with an appropriate drill. Factories freeze the new rivers before installation . Pound the river into the hull with a die that tightens the hull material to the river, then peen the end of the rivet over to finish it. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. Farmers and logging took down the trees and the stream temperatures rose too high to allow the natural reproduction of the native Atlantic Salmon. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. I moved my battery and kicker fuel tank to balance out the extra weight of the four stroke. Since 2004, things are fine. Pulling the downrigger up loads the kicker RPMs up but it indicates the battery is being charged . Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. Trout usually sink to the bottom when they die. Unless the water is shallow or extremely clear they are difficult to count. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. There is a sun activated glow tape out there that really works. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. I am not apologizing, just seventy years of boating caused me to learn from the old timers, not the greenhorns. "Gunwales" is it for professionals, not wanna be s.

  13. Gunnels? Gunwales.
  14. To get my “dipseys” deep quickly I use twenty pound braid. Less blowback with the fine diameter line. Only spoons or shallow stick baits that do not tip the “dipsey” back up . High drag lures like deep divers or flashers flatten out the the downward pull of the dipsey and result in shallow depths. Snap weights and rubber band sinkers are better for deep diving. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United No matter how much line you put out, they reach a certain depth and go no deeper due to the drag from the line and large diameter line such as thirty pound mono will lift your dipsey up.
  15. Panther Electro Steer is a great way to steer your kicker motor from any where in your boat. Single hand fishing is more enjoyable. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. Trickle chargers will boil the water out if left on continuously. you should use the "maintenance" charger system which gives a tiny pulse charge at short intervals to keep your battery charged.
  17. 24/365 for 5 years now on charge, maybe I will check my water. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. No Boat? A casting drone! Cast out 1500 feet with a drone taking your lure or bait way off shore. Check out "Fitch Casting Drone".Also view "Urban Splash Drones".
  19. The green stuff you use in your automobile is a deadly poison. Draining it on the ground will expose your dog to lick it up because it is sweet, think about the danger when using it,
  20. I laid up tug boats for the winter. We pumped oil into the sea chest and shut off valve to prevent ice bursting the pipes. Then the “do gooders” came along and could not do it any more. The fix was to install an air fitting to the line and bubble air into the pipes to remove the water and it worked. You could leave the boat in the water all winter long. Also a deicing pump under the boat would pump bottom water to the surface “39 degrees” around the boat and keep the boat from freezing in place. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. The insurance company guys report that 70,000 deer were killed by cars last year in New York. All these preservationists do not have to worry of deer over populations. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. Cityots are people who bought some land from a farmer and built a home to be free of the industrial smoke and poor families. They still work in the city and drive an hour each way to work. That is their desire and they want to communicate with wildlife there. But their presence has taken access from hunters and we now wonder why the kids are stuck in the house. 23. Organic is a term to raise the price. Farm raised fish are fed processed baitfish and other cheap nutrients to grow them larger quicker in a confined space. Free ranged fish are similar wild sea raised that have to compete with wild predators to survive and ensure the survival of the fittest. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. Our hunting access areas have been limited by the “cityots “ who purchased some roadside property and shooting is not allowed within 500 feet of their residence. Consider that a half a dozen these properties and a mile of road access is gone forever. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
