Maybe the license numbers have fallen but the revenues went up as d my twelve year old granddaughter received her lifetime license on her birthday. $250 and now the fifth family lifetime license. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Line pound test is determined by fish landing success. Thirty pound mono for Lake Ontario salmon is necessary for the flea problems as it fished cleaner than finer lines. As a leader on dipsey diver lines you will save a lot of flasher fly rigs since the the diver has enough drag when a King hits and runs. I have taken two sixteen pound Browns off Four Mile Creek with six pound test mono in fifty five foot of water in warm summer water. With a boat you can chase a fish for long time. Winter fishing in the lower Niagara six pound test is most successful till water temperatures reach forty five degrees and the fish fight turns on heavily. My family has four lifetime licenses and I realized some days soon that we will regret this action. Our Albany legislators began this program to have more money to spend while they were in office and left the future administrations to deal with this loss of revenues. Sixty pound Kings in Alaska streams are regularly taken. Fifty pound braid is a smart choice with $14 Kwikfish or Wiggle Warts. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

In a boat you can chase the salmon down. In the stream, you have to hold the fish nearby in the current. I have taken salmon on six pound test in the river but you have to fight them to the death before taking them from the water. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Natural reproduction does not have the winter growth rate that the spring water geothermal warmed water have for several months. The survival rate of the stream hatched salmon is expected to be poorer then the hatchery and pen raised salmon that reach the Lake. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Questions to ask your fish replica artist
jimski2 replied to Fishmounter's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Each Pacific water has its own gene pool and different strain of Rainbow Trout or Steelhead sea run salmon. One stream has leopard colored sides. Landlocked Lake fish could be described as football shaped. Steelhead trout from the sea are narrow shaped as to survive in the ocean they have to be fast enough to outrun predators such as seals and killer whales. What we have in Lake Ontario are far different than Pacific Steelhead but then what is in a name? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

States like Ohio banned surge brakes as unsafe. You must have as a minimum electric brakes, there is a trailer weight for mandatory brakes. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Browns spawn in the fall so look near harbors and streams. Deer season is the spawning time in November. Minnows, spinners, small stick baits, small spoons will work. Wilson Harbor is ideal like other harbors,

10,000 years ago, a short time in history, 2,000 feet of ice was over Lake Ontario and the Great Lakes outlet was at Toledo, Ohio. Things change.

We were caught in the PWT tournament blow out of Dunkirk a few years ago. 45 MPH winds, 12 foot swells, the 21 foot Crestliner was vertical and almost blown back many times at 6 MPH. Bass boats slid back into the water and their engines gurgled. Still slow and steady got us back after a couple hours. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Older model boats were designed for level floatation. We add kicker motors and spotlock motors and extra batteries. A newer four stroke motor on the transom really upsets the level floatation design. The transom weight changes will pull the boat down stern first. Being trapped in the cabin possibly by fishing gear hooks while searching for life jackets that were not readily available could contribute. This is just speculation professional investigation might have the answer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

All the Great Lakes had record levels this year, the rain coming from the Gulf of Mexico and its hurricanes. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Downriggers mounted close to the stern are dangerous. Move them forward to where you can easily clip your line to the ball. Foul weather can flood your transom with big butt guys hanging back there. The wider 8 foot 6 inch boats are built for the heavy four stroke engines sold today. The extra six inches give you another 6 foot of floatation for safety in heavy seas.

Waterfront property owners are responsible for their improvements even if the government and nature does them wrong.

My experience at Ketchikan Alaska with thirty foot tides, showed floating docks can overcome the government Water hoarders that control the hydro power systems. Marinas in the St Lawrence river are putting floating docks now to overcome the actions of the water levels commissions. The wooden docks will soon be history as marina operators adapt to survive. The boat ramp at Lewiston is salted regularly to allow outboard trailer boats to access the river all winter . Outboards drain immediately after leaving the river with an extra crank given for confidence. Quilted coveralls and insulated boots work and extra gloves get you by with the snow and ice bergs flowing by. Light action spinning gear with 6 pound test line will bring winter steelhead to your boat. The same fish need 20 pound test after the river warms above 45 degrees. On your first trip you will best was be served by using a guide service which will improve your success quickly. North winds are a day to stay home though Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

The newer four stroke outboards weigh considerably more than the old two strokes. That could pull the boat down with water flowing over the transom. The newer built boats have wider beams to support the heavier engine. High bilge water alarms should be installed for safety now since the marine industry failed to handle them. Never have I seen an article for them. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I checked out a Canadian Police ship in Port Colborne a few weeks ago. It carried a couple “go fast” small boats. Also noted were heavy deck plates for mounting heavy fire arms. As a. Police boat it would also monitor smuggling and other illicit activities. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United It is a high endurance vessel who could patrol for longer periods compared to the smaller response boats.
