  1. Your cell phone service on Lake Ontario may connect you with Canadian towers. They have more power than the three mile range of American towers. It is most important that you inform their 911 operators that you are in American waters so they understand your position to respond properly. On the Grand Island bridge we came into contact with a Canadian 911 operator and there was a several minute delay in forwarding the call to a Niagara Falls USA operator. 2. I traveled to the Wiscoy and Eastkoy Creeks this morning for the opener of trout season. Three days of rain filled them over the banks and no other die hards were seen anywhere. Two hours of fishing headwaters resulted in nothing except a large beaver swimming by me. It will take a few days for all the water to flow down the Genesee River. 3. Maybe the"dealer" is setting you up to buy a new engine. All winter is a long wait to fix it and you are now anxious. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. The high horsepower on the newer faster boats causes a "torque reaction" that tilts the boat at high speed. Trim tabs help or if you can not handle it, just go slower. Twin engines with counter rotating props do not have have the trim problem. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. Stickbaits in shallow waters float up if you have a snag on a line and you stop the boat. Muddy waters on the edge have clear water underneath and fish hide there. Try fishing the edges of colored waters. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Stringer replacement wood is supposed to be Douglas Fir. The alignment is critical to remount your engine. U joint failure will happen shortly if the installation is not correct. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. My welded Crestliner is now 25 years old. No leaks like my rivet boats all had. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Trailer boats stored on the trailer have little problem with fouling or electrolysis. Bare spots need to be primed first with an acid based primer, usually available in a spray can. Then a primer over that. A small thin roller about ten inches wide will do the job. Usually an epoxy paint works well and aluminum boats show little rust. 9. Electronic ignition is in all the cars made today because it works and saves gasoline. I converted my old Dodge 440 to electronics and it started as soon as I touched the key. No more endless cranking waiting for it to start. The spark plugs were opened to a .60 gap also with the higher voltage from the electronic box. Keep the old points on board as insurance if the electronic fails. Mine never failed though. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. HP is increased in a lot of motors by bigger carburetors or fuel injectors. Engine life is sacrificed for more speed. Do you really need more speed anyway? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. Marry well! You need a good woman to support your dream. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. Make sure you have a chart plotter with it. More important than a speedometer as you mark where the fish are being caught and where you are in case of fog. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. The City of Buffalo Wastewater Plant is doing such a good job now that the Strawberry Island weed beds have disappeared. Not to worry though they are building islands there to grow weed beds for the fish to inhabit. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. The "city its" in New York City are the people who elected Cuomo and Hillary. You must realize we are becoming the minority. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. How much it weighs is part of the problem of "sport fishing". Money becomes involved and that is the root of our problem. Congratulations are granted, a non invasive specie is still present.
  16. The slow winter growth rate of stream hatched salmon and rainbow trout contributes to their becoming forage for the adults in the lake. The survival of the pen raised stockings is a higher contributor to the fishery. Alaska regulations require a salmon stamp and a one fish limit for King Salmon. If you remove the fish from the water, fill out your ticket and put your rod aside, you are done fishing for the day. We have the best salmon fishing in the world here on Lake Ontario, we just do not know it.
  17. If you smell gas, there is gas. My fill line leaked on a full tank and the line hardened with age. Really unable to access the clamps I had to pull the tank. I now use portable six gallon tanks. Easy to fill locally and easy to monitor dirt and water accumulation. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. The state of Minnesota has set a "catch and release" system for walleyes this year. North America's premier walleye lake, Mille Lacs, is now dominated by Bass Fishermen with their catch and release efforts and the catch and eat walleye fishermen are shut out of their fish now. A balanced harvest is the need for all waters and we need to be careful in our stocking choices. Money generated should not be the deciding factor for stocking numbers each year.
  19. Lake Erie has high water levels of plus nine regularly. Even steamships have been parked on Fuhrman Boulevard over the years. The shanty town at Times Beach had a great loss of life.Lower Main Street has been flooded. And our goofy politicians want to put housing there.
  20. Two stroke engines are the best here to avoid the hassle of winterizing your engine especially if you fish the lower Niagara all winter. After pulling the boat out, lower the engine to drain its water, crank it for a moment and you are good to go. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. Two stroke engine oil is used in the combustion cylinder for a minuscule time so it really never gets old. Whether it is synthetic or basic, it is good. Four stroke engines use the oil for as long as you get to change it and synthetic oil withstands degradation from high temperatures longer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. It is important to note RV's have plastic plumbing that can stand some freezing unlike metal components. Copper tubing swells when freezing but retains the new larger diameter that does not take regular fittings.
  23. In shallow water spring fishing, side planers way outside are a must. Your boat spooks the fish to the side where your planers will be. Even long lines in the spring are unproductive. Work the warmest water you can find and go slow like one mph with shallow diving stick baits that float up when you stop for a snagged line. A couple split shot ahead of the lures will help to take them a little deeper. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. Automotive anti freeze is highly poisonous. Never drain it in the ground, pay to recycle it. Dogs like to taste it and they die. RV antifreeze has been safe in RV's for drinking water lines but we always drink bottled water. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  25. I am down at Daytona for the race and the lake is open, a real dilemma. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
