When my stickbaits drag bottom in 75 foot of water now they are loaded with mussels. Just how many of them are out there and what is happening? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I have an idea to build a speed and temp probe

I believe a dissolved oxygen sensor on a cannonball would improve your fishing but no one seems to want to design one. A Mentor Ohio company sells something to do this. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
The zebra/quagga mussels forage on the algae as most of our forage fish. Why are there no comments on the effects of this biomass effects ? Just cutting stocking numbers is not the answer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

For the fishing sales, I believe there will be a better selection now at Cabelas. The purchasing people were dominated by Nebraska people who had a weaker knowledge of New York's wants. We received what they thought we should use. Also local manufacturers were not accepted as large enough suppliers to supply all of the stores. The Burlington store next door will Close at the end of its lease and maybe Cabelas will expand its footprint in the area. Will Cabelas have golf equipment? That is going to be a tough one. I have a 1991 90 hp Evinrude that I change spark plugs a couple times a year as the 25 year old motor is getting tired but can still travel 30 mph when I try to blow the carbon out. My 9.8 Honda 4 stroke with remote control and power trim and tilt is my trolling and emergency get home engine, connected with a Panther front connect steering arm it is easy to hook up when changing engines. The transom weight is fine as I removed the starboard battery Tyron the boat. The Honda charges my battery when it is in service as it also has electric start. The cost of the Honda was $3800 and it serves me well as now after fishing all year the six gallon tank of gas has a gallon of gas in it. The single battery has ignition noise on the fish finder at higher speeds but fine at low speed. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

My old 18 foot Lund had a 115 Evinrude replaced with a 115 Honda. The narrow beam caused the transom well to sit underwater and the bilge pump ran forever. Be damn careful putting all that weight on the end of your boat. I would recommend the weight being the primary decision maker. The new 4 strokes made boat designers come up with wider beams to hold the heavier engines. Going 25 mph is adequate to get you out for fishing. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

A sloppy wheel bearing shaft was cured by using Lock Tite compound on the inner race. It worked for me but you will need heat to remove it in the future. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

There are 12 volt/110 volt 60 cycle devices to convert the power for your TV and antenna you could use when shore power is not available and battery capacity is available. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

HDTV requires a special antenna for good reception. The old models are not as good and an amplifier helps a lot. 12 volt amplifiers might be what you need. Automatic signal direction controls help. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Battery voltage of less than 8 volts will allow your radio to receive but not transmit. Check the battery and the supply wires at the radio. Bad connections or light gauge supply wires will screw things up. And Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Now it works. New fuse and different fuse holder plus a different terminal for the connector. The old connections were over ten years old and they looked good but my meter pointed out the problem. A new radio and fuses were over Two hundred dollars but the new radio has gps and an emergency call button that also gives your gps location. Also it has call numbers that reach out like a telephone. I now have a pile of three old radios in my hoard in the cellar. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Tropical storm up coast = Nor'easter on Lake Ontario ?

Hurricane weather down south means fair weather here up north so enjoy the next few days. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
Synthetic oils are needed for high operating temperatures above 180 degrees to comply with gasoline mileage issues of your newer cars. Mineral oils oxidize the oil and cause it to fail quickly when temperatures above 180 F is operated. Most boats operate at 160 degrees as it is a safety issue. Check your voltage going to the radio. It will receive but not transmit if the voltage falls below 8 volts. 10 gauge wire is recommended for runs from a transom area battery. Dirty corroded connections can cause low voltage along with light gauge wire that not carry a couple amps for 25 watt transmission. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

There is no "right of way" if there is an "accident. You must avoid the goofballs to prevent it. Stopping your boat dead in the water is a good idea if you do not know what to do. This will get you back fishing faster than cleaning up a bunch of tangles. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

A 3/4 ton truck. Yellow flashing lights. A banner with "oversized vehicle" on the front. Daylight and you may be good to go. Well DOT permits?

My cellar has a pile of Lowrance machines. Why I keep buying them shows I must be stupid but they have worked for me. My next machine will probably be a Garmin. When they went into production Garmin hired Lowrance and Humminbird engineers to design better machines and I have seen them pick up fish at 20 mph.

Spring time Lake Erie ice conditions are the main determination for fishing the Port Dalhousie, Port Weller and Niagara Bar areas. No ice turns on the fishing early when the metabolism rates increase. Lots of ice delays this early start. The rest of the lake turns on when the water temperature reaches mid forties. This indicates that there salmon and trout distribution all over the lake, they just need the right water condition to start their growth rates. The Lake Erie effluent flow into Lake Ontario contains a lot of nutrients but we must not count out the effect of six million Canadians populating the Toronto Metropolitan area that effects water temperature and nutrients in Lake Ontario.

I have plastic Fishmaster rod holders on my boats that have served me well for over 25 years now. Maybe they may not impress you for appearance but durability is there.

More thoughts on the radio were if your engine battery fails to start due to dead battery, most likely your radio will fail you for assistance. An auxiliary battery for your electronics could be your salvation. Mechanical connections corrode over time and fail, so soldering connections could be a good idea.
