I converted my motor home to electronic ignition. The spark was so hot that my spark plugs had to be recapped to sixty thousands.

This summer surface water temperature will reach the high seventies or higher. Algae blooms will be greater and depleted oxygen levels in deep waters will be very high.

How about switching from steel wire on the rigger to a braid.Maybe that would take the electric deal out of the picture.

The creation of "Homeland Security" has developed into a cash cow for government agencies on both sides of the border. On the USA side there are airport security and border patrol everywhere. But the Canadian side it has agencies that are working the road to fund their payrolls for actions we took for granted for centuries. Boaters are the main casualties of Americans who will be the targets of enforcements that will hammer your wallet. Let us start with cell phone call in where you must clear your boat and passengers before entering Canadian waters. The cell phone will track your pings where you go or stop. If any of your passengers is a DWI conviction, you are denied entry. Any conviction on your record may order you to travel to a customs area where you may not have enough fuel to return home. Canadian cell phone providers use powerful systems to warn you and themselves of your location even if you do not transmit anything. The best way to fish Canadian waters is to cross over the bridge where your clearance is done. -

In my lifetime I have seen invasive species such as smelt and alewives dominate Lake Erie's biomass so history can repeat. -
Shore fishermen are throwing stickbaits at the river catching huge walleyes after dark on warm evenings. Anyone want to talk?

The metabolism necessary for growth in all fish species is controlled by water temperature. That is why fish hatcheries depend on warmed spring water, fifty five degree F., to grow their fish over the winter. In the wild streams the eggs do not hatch till Springtime warm causes the hatch and wild fish are small and become fodder for the large fish in the lake. They are not large enough to survive out there. -
My earliest time fishing was Thanksgiving day at Cuba Lake. Yesterday Lake Erie was 48 degrees surface water temperature at the Port Colborne weather buoy. This might be another year of no ice fishing on Lake Erie. But the "Perfect Storm" for lake effect snow is coming with open water all winter long.

The newer boats for the four strokes have a wider beam and transom to support the heavier engines. moving your battery forward could help. Taking a swell over the stern could sink your boat in seconds so keep your stability safe. Be careful choosing a heavier motor than the boat is designed for.

When I served in the Coast Guard in Cleveland every day had a recovery of a drowning then. In July they would surface after twenty four hours but In the winter they would appear after a month to up to three months.
-
The winter life jacket law was enacted to spare search and rescue units from spending excessive time searching in the worst weather conditions. The cold water prevents the decay of human bodies to surface and things are bad enough with a drowning and more drownings are not needed. Why make things worse?

Care must be observed when stocking another specie into our waters. I remember when some fellows stocked walleyes from the Allegany River into Chautauqua Lake. These walleyes, an Ohio River strain , thrived but damaged the muskellunge fishery.

The Niagara River has a lesser salmon fall return because the salmon follow colder water temperstures as they enter the lake. The Niagara is Lake Erie water that is warmer than Ontario water until later in the season.
-
Lakes Erie and Ontario are predicted to have higher water levels in 2016 due to higher local precipitation rates in 2015. From NOAA and the Army Corps of Engineers.

The only safe way to enter Canadian waters is to drive over the bridge. With all the hoops you have to jump through the expense of the fines imposed on you will cripple your boating.

How do you know if a transom needs repair or replacement?
