  1. The fuse installed on the positive lead next to the battery protects the entire system. I had a wire short out when a cannonball wore the insulation off the wire that was laying in the tray on the side of the boat.
  2. The trim switch needs to be a two way switch for up and down operation. Marine supply stores have this switch and also starter switches.
  3. Even if you have running lights on and you strike another boat or a shore fisherman, you have to answer for the incident. That is why spotlights help you know what is going on. After seeing other boats without lights you are guilty since you know the existing situation. Law enforcement is lacking at the night fishing zones so you have to be prepared. It is illegal to shine a spotlight on a boat at night blinding the operator. There is no safe way to operate at these harbors except to be able to stop in half the visibility distance.
  4. US stores have perch filets at $22US a pound. Same price as King Crab from Alaska. There seems to be a shortage of perch so if you find them, take care of them.
  5. Today at Port Colborne's Minor Fish shop perch filets are $11.25C per pound. Walleyes or pickerel are $10.25C per pound. We had perch and chips for lunch. Delicious. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  9. One boat came in from the 39/13 quadrangle with forty eight perch. Seventy two foot of water and deeper water showed few fish yesterday. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Walleye numbers off Point Breeze dropped a lot now that the water temperature fell six degrees over last week. One boat came in with forty eight perch from seventy two feet of water yesterday. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Lake Ontario Walleyes are under fished due to health concerns and the availability of trout and salmon. If it is your desire to catch huge Walleyes then you have the best opportunity here except for the Columbia River out west. The most active areas for large Walleyes are the bay of quinte an the Niagara bar. Do not be concerned by over harvest numbers just try for the 34 incher that is waiting for you. Lake Erie does not compare with size any more. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. The downriggers are best set up not too far to the transom but more forward where attaching lines are safer and more simpler. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Your age and fitness determine your trip. Overweight and bad knees will put you down and ruin everyone's day. If you are not nimble enough it is best to stay home. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Your bilge pump should be wired directly to the battery. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Being around boats over sixty years, I recommend a welded aluminum eighteen foot boat and trailer. That is all, Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Chart plotters are wonderful in the fog and haze. The problem becomes over reliance and speeding to crash into other boats. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. When the blue pike disappeared, there was an explosion of silver bass then. We ate them then. Things change, get used to it. You may find them okay. After people try to have a balanced harvest of the lake's fish, things will change. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. A good tip when traveling out there is to have a good compass and check for a return route. It gets hazy out there and the shoreline disappears and you can end up in Ohio. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Also a large trailer lot on route 5 east of the light. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Labor Day weekend resulted in many boats boxing out on Walleyes. The hot spot off Point Breeze was seven miles out NW in the steam boat lanes of 78 to 68 feet of water. The fish are holding tight to the bottom where riggers and worm harnesses. Popping the harness free and letting it rise turned many Walleyes on. 21. Get wipers. You need them in high seas also, Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Yesterday off the Catt, a little west, 75 foot of water, our four boats picked up 9, 5, 4 and 5 Walleyes . Riggers and worm harnesses set close to the bottom did the best. A couple on dipseys. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. All I see at the boat dealers today are outboards. In Florida I saw a boat with five three hundred hp outboards on a bracket on the transom. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. I wrecked my top by towing the boat at forty mph. Remember to put it down when towing and keep your speed under twenty five mph on the water. High winds should be considered also. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Inboard outboard motors are history now. All new boats are outboards except Volvo or diesels. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
