  1. We picked up eleven yesterday, the secret being finding the right depth as your fish finder indicates. Dipseys And riggers worked best near the bottom with worm harnesses. Go west of Sturgeon Point now that the lake water temperature is cooking. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Check out of state trailer brake regulations for your trailer. Some states outlaw surge brakes. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Renoskys with the front hook removed and a larger treble in the middle. No worm, five colors of lead core, clown color today, sixty five foot of water, two at twenty eight and twenty three inches between noon and two PM. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Rivets work loose and no cracks are visible. Filling the bilge with water on your trailer at indicate a slight weeping of water from a loose rivet. My Starcraft mariner needed 268 rivets removed and replaced with slightly larger rivets. Then the transom knee brace cracked and I gave up. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Vertical trolling or jig fishing is very effective now. Walleye anglers are stopping their boats and casting jigging Rapala type lures over the transom to pull up major fish they marked on their graph. Kavajecz has a video on this method where he won a $78,000 boat last fall. Expect in the future a lot of boats may not be trolling. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Propane is heavier than air and a leak will accumulate in the bilge area creating an explosive hazard. Compressed natural gas is lighter than air and will leak to the atmosphere. Propane and boats are a no no. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. They sell braid for down riggers. It is thinner with less blowback so even lighter cannon balls are needed. Do not add it to your rigger wire spool as it will jam down at the edge of the spool. The electrical charge associated with steel wire is eliminated as well as the vibration noise that scares the fish. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. The brackets that hold triple engines on the patrol boats are triple three eighths aluminum plate. That seems to be a good simple way to reinforce your transom. The transom knee bracket will let go of the transom is flexing. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. The professional fish cutters do not use their filet knives to cut through rib bones. They cut the heads off and slice around the rib bones from the front. It is faster and more meat is yielded from the fish than the power knife butchers. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Phenol is the chemical that really taste bad. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. The finest fish knife is a Cutco made in Olean, New York by union Steelworkers. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Pine sol has an ingredient that will taint your fish. Do not use it in your coolers or fish boxes. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. The Cheektowaga Cabelas has 150,000 items on display. The catalog store has 650,000 items. The fishing lures are a little weak on local knowledge lures but strong on everything else. 8 by 8 elk mounts are really impressive. All the mounts are true trophies. Plan on staying for hours. 14. Your graph does not show fish at deeper depths if it is set up for the 100 foot depth. There are many fish deeper that the graph does not indicate. I learned that with my old x16 when I changed the settings and fish appeared at depths to 250 feet. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Dipsy rods are more effective than riggers. Inline planers work well early on. Keep it simple starting up. That being said three rod holders on each side will keep two fishermen occupied. A combo graph/chart plotter will be good enough. A vhf radio and your cell phone for safety, add more toys as time and your budget allows. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. With a voyage dropping resistor you could drop the voltage but you would kill your main battery. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. When oxygen levels are depleted as under ice conditions when decaying matter consumes the oxygen and no stream runoff happens, fish will suspend to upper levels. Summer Heat and a lack of fresh flowing water cause the bottom oxygen depletion levels to occur.bottom dwelling fish will leave to upper warm water where the desired oxygen levels may be replenished by wave action. 18. As the water temperature increases the solubility rate of oxygen decreases. Where the dissolved oxygen is highest the metabolism and feed rates of the Walleyes are highest, the right temperature is the best place to catch Walleyes. Temperature is the factor for growth rates of Walleyes and around 48 F degrees the growth rate stops. They just maintain their size then. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Your kicker motor fuel line can suck in air from your main engine fuel line vent. Use a separate tank for the kicker engine. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Red rubber bands, shower curtain hooks and electrical spring clamps work well for me. The rubber bands when stretched indicate small fish on your line. The rubber bands break free from the planer line easily. Also use the rubber bands for downrigger releases. They do not tangle with your lines. 21. Lowrance screwed me out of my hundred dollar rebate saying I was untimely or something like that. After twelve Lowrance units they now are untimely to see me in future. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Batteries have an internal resistance of 1.5 volts so no charging begins until your 12.5/12.8 voltage is above the added resistance. That is why 14+ volts are needed to start charging your battery.
  23. You are best to install a marine built in battery charger. My boat is always on charge when it is parked. Winter or summer. The batteries are always up even after many years. They have a high charge rate, a finish charge rate and a maintenance charge rate where a tiny pulse is sent to the batteries every few seconds without a trickle type charge that boils the water out of solution. I never add distilled water to the batteries either.
  24. Trailer tracking of the tow vehicle would be compromised at high speeds. Radial tires tend to travel straighter than bias tires. This may want the trailer to go straight when you are turning. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Ask the wife how many pairs of shoes she has. That usually quiets them down. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
