If interference is detected, turn off the sonar of the old unit through the sonar menu and use the old chart. This gives you a full screen for sonar on the new unit. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Your fill hose is probably hardened and will leak. Tightening the clamps is not enough. The new EPA rules on fuel tanks prevent gasoline from entering the atmosphere when the boat is not operating just like your car. Your portable tanks are now tested to 20 PSI to allow for expansion when the air warms up. Your portable tanks may be a pain but they work.

Deep cycle batteries need a different charger than standard batteries. The difference is in the final voltage. Also your charging system should shut down and go into a "maintenance mode" when the battery is fully charged. It gives a tiny pulse charge every few seconds to maintain peak condition but does not overcharge and boil the fluid out of your cells.

One boat boxed out with a two man limit twice this week at Sturgeon Point. 53 foot of water and the nearby boats were all catching perch. Two hours each day and wear gloves as the air and water is cold. The largest perch weighed 2.09 pounds. Life jacket wearing is the law now and ECO's are checking your operations.

Stolen 9.9 Mercury 4-stroke from Boat Doctors in Olcott 4/24/15

Crackheads and heroin addicts are a major part of this problem. The public needs to report them and the police must put more effort into cleaning them off our streets. Way too much effort is put into speeding tickets and generating local revenues when the major crimes like this are merely reports and insurance claims for those who have insurance. -
The new EPA approved fuel six gallon tanks have a closed to the atmosphere system that does not allow the gasoline to vent out in the daytime and allow high humidity air to replace it on cool nights. Our open to the atmosphere fuel tanks are going to be dinosaurs shortly and be ready for changes. The evaporating old gasoline to the environment is a criminal act.

The old gasoline has to be stored in safe containers and taken to a County disposal site that operates one day a year. Meanwhile you have your garage loaded with an explosive fuel that endangers your home, your neighbors and responding firefighters that are not knowledgable of the dangerous contents within it. If you buy the containers they are gone and the county only takes a small amount of material yearly. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I ruined my carburetor of my lawn mower using old gasoline. The varnish and other crap cost me a lot of money. Getting rid of the old gasoline is another nightmare. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

White perch are numerous in Lake Erie now and are a predator on the fry and small walleyes, bass, natural hatched steelheads and yellow perch. A foreign invader also with a spiny ray that punctures the intestines of consuming fish. They are best eaten fresh caught with skinless filets. Freezing makes the flesh mushy. Please for the good of our fisheries do not release them back alive. They are a good fertilizer for your garden if you have one.

I can easily reach the tilt switch on my control head when the boat is on the trailer. Usually I raise the motors before I load the boat on the trailer. When I park and store the trailer with the boat I lower the motors for draining to prevent freezing and less space is needed for storage. The raised motors are a hazard to nearby people.

The 5 weight in 5W40 oil is to quickly lubricate the engine on cold weather start up. It prevents cylinder scuffing rather than the cold slow flowing straight 40 weight reaches the internal engine parts. When I worked in the engine crew on Tug Boats we would use straight 50 weight mineral oil for the main engine but before starting we would prelube the engine with a manual pump before cranking the engine over. The engine on the tug LT5 now in Oswego is 72 tears old now.

Synthetic oil became mandatory when automotive engine operating temperatures went from 180 to 210 degrees F. for fuel economy. Aviation engines which are mainly air cooled always used synthetic oils since high engine oil temperature caused oxidation of natural petroleum oil when the temperatures reached over 180 degrees F. You can not go wrong with synthetic oils unless your engine manufacturer wanted regular oil for break in purposes for the first ten thousand miles. The rings need to set in the cylinders properly before synthetic oil is added. Nascar cars use a 0W50 synthetic oil for their higher RPM engines that quickly lubricates the engine on starting and has the best lubrication possible. Ford had a 5W20 oil a few years ago for quicker lubrication and less friction for higher mileage and it worked fine.

Upgrading with an electronic ignition system can increase your mileage, quicker starting and keep your old points handy in case the electronics fail. Your spark plug gaps may need to be increased since a better fire is now available.

Bring a net for the the big crappie because their soft mouth loses a lot of fish and a net is needed to lift them out of the water. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Water temperature never stops perch from feeding. Locating them is the secret. Use your graph, find them, then set your anchor. Do not depend on they were here yesterday, last year or there are a group of boats anchored up there. A good sign is perch coming over the gunwales of a boat for starters.
