  1. Sig Hansen has equipped his crab boat in the Bering Sea with Garmin now. He has to find a lot of crab pots in terrible winter weather and needs to find good ground to set them. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. The salmon average weight is falling. Too few alewives? Too many competitor fish? Something is out of balance for a good fishery. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. A 3db antenna is good for about 10 miles. A 10 db antenna could reach 25 miles reception. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Lake Erie has whiteouts and snowdrifts. Shoves over 25 foot high block your path. It is big league fishing out there and a handheld compass and gps plus a cellphone fully charged are necessary. Greenhorns hook up with veteran fishermen and if you walk travel light as a two mile walk might be four miles long and even longer on return. It is best to hold off for a thaw to knock down the snow depths. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Chirp is the way of the future. Sharper picture and less interference from nearby boats. Lowrance has three crystals in their transducers for sonar and down scan. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. You will need a small 12 volt battery with a charger similar to a motorcycle battery. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I use my forward downriggers, just point them forward and hook on the boards. Easy access and the motors bring them back. A lot of money saved for the gas tank. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. The Southtowns Walleye club has a good perch tournament in May. Weigh in five perch and a perch dinner afterward at their clubhouse. Info is at their website, Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. I have found the connector to your io or ob needs to be helping your steering with your kicker. The extra rudder control is a big advantage. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

    Record perch ?

It is always better to hold a ruler next to a fish to get a true perspective. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. My motor home went from 7mpg to 6mpg when the ethanol scam started. One gallon of alcohol equals .6 gallons of straight gasoline energy content. Now that is where the ripoff is at. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Long pants and heavy socks are best.
  13. I have been fishing the lakes since the 1940's when the general boat was a 14 foot cedar strip o/b. Boats have increased every decade until now. There are thousands of inboards for sale as fuel costs, storage, docking and tow vehicles have made them undesirable. Your towable outboard is what sells today and if it is too rough to use, it is too rough for any boat out there. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Garmin hired engineers from Lowrance and hummingbird to design their combination units. Sharper pictures on them. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. After observing the women at a commercial fish processor who cut a dozen perch a minute, they scale them mechanically, cut their heads off and with four motions they filet the perch with no bones left in the filet. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. When I walk on the wife's ceramic tile kitchen floor, the screws slip though.
  17. Plastic bottles could dissolve in the gasoline and should never be used to hold gasoline.
  18. Keith Kavaecz won a $78,000 boat on Lake Michigan casting a Moonshine jigging plug off the stern of his boat after he marked the fish with his graph, simpling stopping his boat, powering on his "spot lock" trolling motor, and casting back where he marked his fish. No trolling needed.
  19. At anchor or restricted in maneuvering. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Your fish finder has more interference on the screen when at high speed the alternator puts out more pulses. It is best to run your graph on the deep cycle battery. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. I have replaced leaking rivets by cutting off the old rivet, and replacing it with a larger sized rivet using a proper sized drill. You must "set" the aluminum to the new rivet, then peen it over.
  22. Welding puts stress on rivet boats but will add depth to the wear area. Pre heating the welded area may help. A boiler patch repair consisting of adding another piece of aluminum may work by riveting the patch to the boat with a sealing compound between the area to be patched. Welding in an overhead position is tough and the boat may need to be inverted for the process. TIG welding is preferred over MIG welding.
  23. Lower the motor and crank it. Never fogged the engine, 22 years old and waiting for it to fail to get a new motor but it just keeps on running. 92 Evinrude two stroke. Changed the lower gear case oil twice.
  24. Many party boats shift operations to Florida for the winter. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Iceland has cod, no nets, just hook and line fishing. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
