  1. Yes, they are usually finished spawning when the lake temperature reaches 48 degrees F.
  2. Outside storage is better than indoors in a heated area. Reports of batterys bursting in sub zero weather are rare and you save your time and back leaving them in the boat.
  3. Apparently sidewall strength is a factor in radial tires that cause them to have "swerving tendencies" that are not desired.
  4. The "half fast cleaning" methods I do not use as I carry a cooler of ice at all times and my perch are immediately iced down as soon as they are off the hook. Since I am seventy years old I share my perch with friends, family and even some neighbors. After a long day on the water, I am too tired to clean the fish properly but the next day since I feel better, I get into cleaning a couple dozen that are left. These gives me four dozen filets that make up four dinners that I seal up and freeze in a plastic bag topped off with water that is frozen till needed. I hate to say this but if you insist on using an electric knife I see that the curved front blades do a better job skinning than the flat straight blades. Too many fish in the freezer cuts down on my fishing time so help your friends out that are too old or have to work to get out there.
  5. Fogging the engine is something I have never done for forty years now on my two stroke engines. Drain the water and crank it over with Stabil type treated fuel. Shut her down after a few seconds. Leave the battery in the boat as cold air is better than heated air. Charge the battery in the spring and go.
  6. Radial tires are not for trailers as they have a tendency to cause "trailer sway" due to sidewall strength. You are not asking for traction or steering factors. Search out "trailer tires" and there is a huge amount of information from manufacturers there.
  7. Poor walleye reproduction is the result of an unbalanced harvest situation. You must take the perch and other fish that forage on walleye fry and fingerlings to have good walleye numbers. Balance things out as you would a good steward of the fishery resource.
  8. I used a two way switch on the dash to replace the switch on the control handle of my 92 Evinrude 90 HP. The motor raised on the engine mounted switch so I determined it was the control head switch that failed. I just extended the wires from the control head to the dash mounted switch and put a couple pieces of tape marked up and down next to it.

    Seneca perch

Being seen drinking beer in the wrong saloon would get you shunned by the old timers I knew in the old days.
  10. The professional fish cutters in Port Dover would drown you in the harbor for wasting all that perch. They receive a packer of a hundred pounds of perch to clean and are expected to turn out fifty pounds of filets. Your quick butcher of a perch is a sin and you should apologize for putting this out.
  11. A top safety violation is a failure to have your battery covered to prevent accidently arcing open terminals. Have your battery in a plastic case.
  12. Misalignment of new stringers can burn out your gimbal bearings quickly. It happens. Then new stringers again need to be installed.
  13. Every day the perch seem to change depths where they are concentrated. Use your fishfinder to find the fuller schools or watch for boats where everyone is pulling the perch over the gunwales.
  14. Yesterday we ran out of bait again after three hours fishing. Best spot was 64 foot off Evangola where the perch were larger and less white perch and white bass. About 50 boats in the area fishing for perch combat style. Anchoring produced better than drifting, you need a lot of anchor rope in these depths to hold bottom.
  15. 2 boats yesterday 66 foot off Lotus Point 184 perch. Fast as you hit bottom they are on, a lot of doubles Use your screen to find them, solid schools of fish. Sent from my SCH-I405 using Lake Ontario United mtobile ap
  16. Hatchery raised salmon and trout winter over in spring water that is geothermally warmed and hatches the eggs quickly where the fry grow over the winter months. They are fed in the hatchery till they reach a size with good survivability in the lake where the stream raised trout and salmon are nothing but forage for all the predators be they salmon, trout, bass, walleyes, perch, smelt and anything else we have out there. The concern for stream raised salmon is that they have a rough time growing up and regular success for future accountability can not be accepted.
  17. For several May 15th spring days I observed brook lamphreys spawn on the upper Genesee River above Wellsville. These are native lamphrey not sea lamphrey. Sent from my SCH-I405 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. The large walleye we consider smelt eaters inhabit deep colder waters. The energy they expend to feed needs larger forage to survive. Look for them around the smelt bait schools. Sent from my SCH-I405 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. The Niagara Bar produced the top three walleye this year in the Fish Odyssey contest. Larger than most Lake Erie contest winners. What Lake Ontario does not have are walleye fishermen, it has the largest walleyes anywhere in North America.
  20. New V belts stretch when installed and need to be tightened again. Sent from my SCH-I405 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. The top three big walleyes in the Fish Odyssey Contest came from the Niagara Bar on worm harnesses. A 12 and two 11 pounders won the money.
  22. Cellphone in a plastic bag And a charging port on the dash board. Sent from my SCH-I405 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
