You may want to install a plastic cutting board type of mount even in fibreglass boats because you can use large bolts above the waterline to secure it. A sealer product between the hull will also stop the flow of water between the hull and board. Screws into the board will protect the integrity of your hull.

A lot of our boats are trailer boats and our launching ramps were designed when the lake was at higher levels, not what we have now. Without a safe channel to enter the lake, you are unable to go out and the few ramps available will be jammed up with new users this year. Please make our legislators aware that the situation is critical now. We pay a lot of registration fees and fuel taxes with our boats and the government has returned very little of over the years so do not accept the replies that they are broke..

electrolysis and fishing, setting up your boat!
jimski2 replied to fieromx3's topic in This Old Boat
Zinc is for steelboats and ships. A magnesium? alloy is for aluminum boats and parts. Outboard motors and outdrives usually have this as a steering adjuster to counteract propeller torque. Rarely due these fail in freshwater and keeping your motor or outdrive in the raised position helps while you are docked. Mussels can be a bigger threat to your cooling water passages. -
Before Lake Erie rises to give more water to Lake Ontario, Lakes Michigan and Huron have to come up three feet. Where all this water will come from, no one knows.

For twenty years my winterization of my outboard Evinrude 90 HP has been to crank the engine over, after lowering it. Every few years I change the lower unit oil. No fogging and check the spark plugs if I hear a miss. The money I have saved will pay for a new engine if I need one. I have a constant charge battery charger that is plugged in year round and the battery lasts a long time. The boat is always ready to go 365 days a year. In the spring I grease the steering and grease fittings. I jack the tires up and spin them and if no growling or noise is heard off we go although I check the wheel bearings for heat after hauling the boat some distance regularly. In the winter I build a frame to form a tent with a plastic tarp so the snow slides off and has a lot of ventilation to keep mold from forming on the seats and vinyl.

If the fish in Lake Ontario are listed as contaminant free, then someone will start selling them and you will have another new ball game. Be careful of what you wish for, you might get it.

Transducers on boats 100 feet away cause interference on my boat. Especially if the frequency is the same.

The state of Michigan has appropriated 21 million dollars from the general fund to dredge 49 harbors from the upper peninsula to Detroit. Read it on "Boat Nerd" news channel. http://boatnerd.com/

NY State Fishing License Reduced Fee Proposal
jimski2 replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Now they have my money for a lifetime license, they come up with this. They already spent my money while they were in office and all the youths are playing with their gameboys so this will destroy the operation of the DEC. -
Things are not going to get better. We need to prepare to live with what we have. We need new boat ramps, deeper marinas if we expect to use our boats. Lakes Huron and Michigan are down three feet since the rivers were dredged and all the high water we had for the past seventy years is gone. We are back to where we were in the 1930's and that is how it is. Hope for some hurricanes from the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic ocean to maintain what we have. Local rain and snowmelt is only water from the lakes and is only a smaller return than the lakes lose through evaporation.

I called the Coast Guard for assistance and gave them the GPS numbers displayed. The numbers were for a previous waypoint and I was embarassed. Most law enforcement vessels are equipped with radio direction finders so they know which way you are from them. They also locate you when you are using your radio foolishly. Marine radios are for intership safety, not gossip. You can be fined for misuse of your radio. If you need to socialize, use your cell phone.

A long talk with a wife is too one sided. The only good thing is keep her working.

I was retired and did not know it. I took my pension and now work 24/7 for my wife, that is unless I sneak off to fish.

Always carry a spare set of clothes in your car so you can have warm clothes to go home in.

I hope they total the machine. My son had his ATV go through and he went through hell for a year before it ran right again. Simple things like cables rusted up over time.

New York's baitfish regulations do not allow for Great Lakes emerald shiners to be used on areas like trout streams and the Finger Lakes. They must have to have been certified VHS free and you have to carry a ten day valid receipt from the shop where you purchased them.

But the salesman said the tires will float the machine.

I smelled "wires burning" one day and found that a cannonball bouncing on my wires had shorted them out and could have caused a big fire. Put the fuse next to the battery on all your red positive wires. The temperature of an electric spark or arc is 30,000 degrees F., more than enough to melt steel or ignite carpetting, fibreglass, wood, plastic gasoline tanks and paint.

The bigger problem is launching and taking out your boat as all the ramps and harbors have been neglected in New York State for years now and no one is doing anything but talking. After they have some propeller and lower unit damage, they might see how we have been cheated out of our fuel and registration taxes and fees for years now.

It is about the permit fees and sales taxes that will be collected. Since the New York City people do not own guns, they stuck this scam to the upstate residents who own guns and the businesses that depend on the spending of any discretionary spending money left over after the tax collectors take theirs. New York City people are laughing at us now. I cringe when I see that commercial on Television every couple hours where that Governor with the Cheshire Cat Smile is telling us everything is fine as he takes our tax money at the same high rate as the last Albany Crew. When a lawyer says "do not worry" grab your wallet.

I want a "dissolved oxygen level" meter for late summer to indicate bad fishimg water.

Propeller size would make things work. A lower pitch will get the RPM's up. You need maximum RPM's to not overload your engine and cruise about eight mph for fuel economy. If that is too slow for you, then a new boat is needed.

This in NY is not about violence, it is about a money grab by the crew in Albany. When you are forced to register your semi automatic firearms, they will question you on how you obtained them. Without a receipt you will be assessed the sales taxes based on a "blue book" of prices they came up with, just like when you receive a free automobile from someone not a close relative. When you sell a firearm now, the buyer will also be assessed a sales tax on the transaction. This will drive down the value of your guns.
