On an 18 foot Starcraft, we took out the screws holding the wooden deck cover. Removed the fuel level control and siphoned the fuel remaining gasoline out through the transom drain plug hole. A coat hanger with an old t shirts was swabbed around in the tank to remove the water and crud accumalated after twenty years. Do this outdoors away from any buildings. A better way is to replace all the fuel fill, vent and supply lines as they are old and brittle. Rubber deteriorates after seven years. Make sure the new lines are alcohol safe?? and have USCG Approvals on them. First is to call your insurance agent and take out an extra $100,000 for your survivors.

Solid rings. Not split rings for big fish. Split rings open up and you lose everything. [ Post made via Android ] -
Side planers to get your lures away from the boat especially in shallow water.

My buddies go up to Lake Nippissing and use their GPS Chart plotter on their snow machines to find the good reefs for walleyes.

Inboard and inboard outdrive engines are priced out of the market today since the EPA guys mandated catalytic converters on boating gasoline engines. The price of a water cooled catalytic converter is supposed to be in the $5,000 range so what you get today are outboards as you see on the Coast Guard and Homeland Security boats. Triple 300 HP outboards are commonly seen now. When you go to a Boat Show this winter look around and see what is new.

Lake Ontario Harbor Dredging and access to the Lake

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/the ... story.html The purpose of this article is to inform you and your elected representatives that our government has money for harbors, just not our harbors. When your rinky dink boat ramp is useless, think of the billions of tax dollars being spent elsewhere in the USA to support the Asian manufacturers and big box retailers here in the USA. -
River currents are high along the breakwall and ferry slip. Try for perch on Squaw Island, over the railroad bridge and below the Black Rock Lock. Also the Ontario Street Acccess parking lot has a lot less current. Marinas also have less current, Grand Island and all the way down to Tonawandas. Night fishing for perch works when you have a lantern to light up the water.

LOTSA had a meeting the other night and the Orleans County Fish coordinator gave a half hour talk on the water depths situation. What we have for Lake Ontario now is plans, but no money or even if we have the money no resources like dredge companies to restore our small harbors. A lot of boats suffered shallow water and obstruction damage last year and things will not get better unless every one of you swinging dicks get out there and start squeeking the wheels of the guys who hold the purse strings of your tax dollars. The possibility of nature coming through and raising the water levels are about as good as if seven hurricanes hit the Greaty Lakes Basin this year. The watersheds above Lake Ontario are at record lows and the control dams on the St. Lawrence River are now at their minimum flows. Do nothing and get a jet ski for next year.

Our best bait for catfish in Lake Erie was shrimp, the stinkier, the better. We fished at night with Coleman Lanterns and if the waters were dirty, that was good. I just returned last week from FL and the Saint John's River where we rented a houseboat. A lot of small cats, 3#ers were caught on live minnows. Good fighters. For big cats try the Santee Cooper lakes in SC, I have seen 60#ers caught there regularly. I visited a friend from Dunnville Ontario years ago who ran trap nets in the Grand River there. He caught dozens of large 20 to 30# cats every night soon after the ice went off Lake Erie. As far as types of cats like channel or blues go, they all seem to have been different species.

First time event in our newly purchased clubhouse and property. The deal is for used sur-plus equipment from the members and others. Also it will showcase the club for prospective new members. We have an excellent kitchen facility and licensed bar so there should be a lot of "schmoozing" going on for fellows interested in Lake Erie and the tributaries fishing. Walleyes are not the only thing going on, we are a fishing for perch, bass and steelhead outfit. Lake Ontario is an hour away from here and the members hit that on occasion. The club runs a walleye contest, perch contest, the Hamburg Sportsmen Show, trips to Massachusetts for cod and haddock, youth fishing events and a lot of deer hunting guys. See you there. Jim

No varnish stuff, just oil and clean it regularly. Pealed varnishes are ugly.

The problem is the dangerous people on the streets, not what your media editors want the public to believe. The state closed our mental facilities because the unions became effective in protecting the employees costing more money that could be squandered by the politicians for their favorite pork projects. The media sources are dependent on political campaign contributions for revenues and they do not want that cash cow to dry up. They tell you what the politicians want, not what is good for the public safety. -
I have 4 transducers mounted side by side. My old units still work and sometimes the new units fail and the old back up units come into play. Also some units find perch better than the other ones and we go with them. In the pile in my basement are 3 X16 paper graphs and 4 other LCD screen guys also. Normal running is my GPS Chart Plotter and the Color Lowrance for walleyes and suspended fish. The spare units are a black and white Plotter and graph X85.

Place your ownrigger as far forward as you need to stand directly next to it to hang over the side to hook your lines to it. It is dangerous to lean too far over the stern or sides to connect up your lures.

The media has been bamboozled by the Gun Control Advocates and NRA as they seek your cash over the shootings. The fact is there are people out on the streets who are a danger to your family and others. We have closed most of our mental health facilities and dumped the patients on the streets where they may or may not take their needed medications. Spending two billion dollars to put men with guns in the schools is not the answer. Getting the deranged, drug addicts and released convicts off the streets is a better answer. The ex husband and other son fled the home with the mother and deranged son giving her $268,000 a month in support. No questions asked, just get me out of here. She could have put the killer in a proper care institution but then would lose her meal ticket so she gambled with her own life and the school victims. Meanwhile New York State continues to close more mental health care institutes and releases the dangerous people to the streets along with time served criminals and drug addicts. The real problem is still ignored by the media because the money seekers have control of the media.
