Again it is referred to as a fish becoming extinct due to "overharvesting". The surge of rainbow smelt, which occupied the same cold water environment of the lakes, destroyed all the populations of blue pike, whitefish, ciscoes, lake trout and other cold water species. Things did not become better until Ontario and Wisconsin started trawling for smelt in the early 1960's and the introduction of salmon to feed on the smelt populations in other lakes Once controls of the smelt began, the so called dead lakes returned to preferred fish numbers. The lakes were not dead as the news media reported, they were just full of the wrong species.

For better winch operation extend the ground wire connection directly to your battery terminal. Frame connections rust and become weak after a couple years. Solder a length of eight gauge copper to the connections and tape it to the red positive wire. After thirty years I have parts accumalated from three Power Winches in my garage and it looks like I am buying a new one this spring as they may go on sale soon. For remote control a string supplied with the winch works well. 712 winch.

Some stupid Federal Agency is spending two million of your tax dollars to place wind mills seven miles offshore in Lake Erie off Cleveland , Ohio. With three coal burning plants on Lake Erie, Niagara River and Lake Ontario being shut down this is real stupidity. Not withstanding the loss of jobs, tax revenues and independence from importing power from other states, the wasting of hundreds of millions of tax dollars through tax credits for pollution controls here in New York that make the plants more environmentally safe these fools are letting the camel get its nose in the window. Soon the whole camel will be in our backyard.

Most I/O's need 89 octane gasoline. I run it in my O/B and find it is smoother since time from refinement could degrade the octane numbers.

Is there a steel rod that will lock into various holes on the engine mount to stop the engine from going lower and take the strain off the hydraulic piston?
-
Praying for rain will hot help, backhoes, draglines and concrete sure will.
-
When it is locked up, disconnect the cable from the engine. If the problem is still there then it could be the cable.

There were three boats trolling for muskies in the east Niagara River opposite Grand Island the past couple days.

Now is the time to start doing something. Not next Fourth of July when you want your family to go out in your family boat. Boat ramps across the state are unusable now due to the Great Lakes returning to lower levels. They were installed and engineered when the lakes were three foot higher but now so shallow as boats are hitting their propellers on shallow bottoms, ripping their trailer wheels off their trailers as the trailer drops off the end of the concrete pads and will not float their boats or are unable to float their boats back on the trailers. The channels from the ramps are also too shallow to enter the lakes. Our Federal Government Agencies have shanghied our dredging funds to build fifty foot channels in Texas and the Carolinas so the new Panamax ships built in Asia will be able to unload their cars, appliances and clothing closer to customers and ignored our Great Lakes waterways. Our state representatives are not getting involved and our local governments can not afford to take on these projects. A lot of contractors and unemployed workers need jobs and this is a needed opportunity to keep our waterfronts productive. Now, not next summer, we need to push for a return of our registration fees, sales taxes, gasoline taxes to the people that pay for them.

If you run out of gas, ten engines will not get you back.

I have heavy snow suits, a light plastic sled for pulling my gear and seat. I keep it simple and I move around a lot. Savings on a trailer, 4 wheeler, hut, registrations, insurance, etc. allow me drive longer distances. So unless I am Lake Oneida or Lake Erie, things are fine.

There are not any new IO's coming out due to EPA rules requiring catalytic converters on inboard engines. An added "too expensive" deal so prepare for outboards in the future. Outboards are easier to service and repair but then they do not require as much service either. If you choose an OB then a 25 MPH top speed is enough to get you there unless you are a charter boat with paying for the fuel customers. I have used outboards for over 60 years and do not fear them at all.

Good boat docks will be at a premium price soon.

We would use ciscoes that were attracted to our lanterns at night while fishing for blue pike. A dip net would catch them and they would only last about twenty minutes in our bait bucket because they needed cold oxygenated water for their survival. The blue pike favored them over the emerald shiners probably as they provided more energy.

8.91 pounds it weighed in at the Canadian Bass Federation Frostbite Tournament last Saturday. A tournament on Lake Erie during the weekends in the month of November. A picture was taken after weigh in and usually the fish are released, but the site was at the Crystal Beach Ramp in Ontario. It may find its way back to American waters but the fish can not read the lines on a piece of paper. The fish was reported by the angler named Drew to be caught betweeen Seneca Shoal and Wanakah area. http://forum.cbaf.ca/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2889 This November contest has the largest bass weights as the weights are highest prior to spawning and the season closing. The water levels reminded me of the boat ramp in Homer, Alaska. With twice daily tides of almost thirty feet, the ramp there is over one hundred yards long and we backed our boat and trailer all the way several times. Soon we will need new ramps to deal with the low water levels. Also new channels will be needed to be dredges to access the lake. So what are our legislators doing? -

A bigger threat to the deer population are the Amish boys wandering the woods at night with their bow and arrows as our trail cams show them. Deer populations drop by 80% when they move in.
