Same problem a few years ago. Filled the tank, tilted the boat to drain the water through the transom plug and gasoline appeared in the bilges. No leak in the tank after I removed it, the gasoline came from the fuel filler hose at the tank. Twenty plus year old rubber hose hardens, shrinks, cracks and doubled clamps are loose. Can not get at the clamps to tighten them, ended up pulling the tank and I am using portable six gallon tanks now. After suffering through the ordeal, I notified the Marine Safety Office in Cleveland and Washington of the Coast Guard and no one seemed to want to get involved. It seems on newer boats the fuel fill hose is attached to the front of the boats, not the stern as mine was. I guess you could replace the fuel fill hose with a new approved hose if you find that this is your problem. Maybe just tighten those clamps will seal the leak.

Trailer springs are not mounted with shock absorbers and break easily when you go over a simple thing like a speed bump. Think seriously about replacing both springs because they may have a metalurgical fault when they "cooked" up the steel. Also try a larger capacity spring since you are changing them.

A lot of the hatchery stocked fish this year are undersized due to some bean counter who found a cheaper source of feed but the growth rates were less with the cheap feed.

You can sign in Thursday evening, May17, 7:00PM at their meeting, membership $25 plus $10 entry fee. After the weigh in, the perch will be cleaned and served with a fresh caught perch dinner, hopefully for you and your family. This is a social contest with fraternization the main benefit, money is secondary.

A low point in the bilge area is good. But some boats have different low points when running, filled with people or empty sitting at the dock. My Marinette has bow and stern bilge pumps.

Reverse polarity destroys the diodes on your alternator. It can be rebuilt with new diodes. Lights do not have a polarity problem unless they are the LED type and then I am not sure.. Electronics may have polarity protection. Positive wires directly grounded melt the insulation and could be shorted out now. That is why you install a fuse close to the battery terminal on your positive wires to things like your electronics. My first check now would be to inspect the wiring especially where you noticed the smoke. If a voltmeter shows above fourteen volts with the engine running, your alternator is OK.

Lake Erie has some huge catfish. I visited a commercial fisherman in Ontario one spring many years ago who had fyke nets set in the Grand River in the spring. He had caught that morning dozens of different species of catfish up to four foot long. Fishing from shore on Lake Erie we caught lots of catfish at night using shrimp for bait.

Amps or amperage is the flow of power in electric, sort of like a lot of flow in a pipe. Too many will melt your wires, connections, terminals, fuses, trip breakers melt diodes, cause fires and trip breakers.

There is a difference in battery selector switches. One of them disconnects the alternator circuit before the battery circuit. This prevents the alternator from sensing no voltage and surging a lot of amps thereby destroying the diodes in the alternator. The diodes supply the DC current from the alternating current in the alternator supply.

The early walleye bite after the spawn is successful using slow speeds, 1.2 to 1.6 MPH and topwater lures on inline side planers. Reef Runner and Husky Jerk Rapala's are the most popular lures down in Ohio at this time. This should be a good system for our walleye opener. Several years we opened the season for walleyes on Chautauqua Lake at midnight. Trolling floating Rapalas on long lines gave us limits early and also a few Muskys to liven things up.
