So I leaned out over my enclosure and broke off my antenna at the mount. Duh, shakedown cruise you know. It is a nylon mount like I saw in Marine General catalog, but I am wondering if the chrome piece on the antenna just unscrews? I see the mounts and the antennae for sale but I can't see how they connect.

Wilson 4/22
FLXTroutman replied to jeb1340's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Tell your buddy to take Bonine the day before you go out and then take another one when he wakes up the day of trip. This works for me, uh I mean a friend of mine... even if you don't know if it will be rough, it is good insurance so you can stay out and he can still have fun. Taking it when you step on the boat in the morning is not not soon enough. Trust me. -
The water was a cold 42 from the marina to white rock. With the sun out I had a black and silver Yozuri stickbait 100' back from the Church board, and Rapala J 9 black and silver 100' back down 7'. It was a beautiful afternoon and I am looking forward to getting back out this weekend.

I finally had a chance to get the boat in and and load up the gear for fishing. After rigging and letting her warm up from the hibernation, I set out from the marina into a north wind. Tested the Sub Troll and the played with the riggers. Worked out some bugs on the power issues realizing the batteries needed a good charging to pull the weights up quicker. Steering into that north wind and setting out a planer board was a challenge but I wanted to get to the white rock. Moved around for about 2 hours very little on the screen and no bites but it was nice to get out.

Luhr Jenson-Big John mini disks off riggers
FLXTroutman replied to grandpa fish on's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Troutman John Oravec did an article for in fisherman mag many years ago discussing this topic. I think if you are running the mini discs as stacked lures above the rigger weight as you stated on your two higher outside riggers it is possible but I don't think you want a 100' lead. I copied this link from a previous thread, it will give you a good idea of how it can be set however this is a 10 rod spread utilizing outriggers too. If you have four or more riggers and run wire dipsies on a 3 setting and keep your mini disc lead short you should be able to run it. Corner riggers with short leads set higher than your out and downs may play a role in minimizing tangles. Also your out and down would need to have an extendable boom to get it further away from your corner rigger. If you click on the image it will zoom in and show more detail. Note the "cookie trap" is only on one side, I don't recall if the mini divers were directional or not but it would certainly help avoiding tangles. http://s1.postimage.org/2rHTor-cedf9553 ... 1197b7.jpg -
Way to go Brett, nice to see a Canandaigua report

try putting in the search function "smelt" when I lived in Michigan the smelting spots were not a secret, all those campers and trucks could not hide on the side of the road where the creeks flowed into Lake Michigan. If you are looking for smelt, grab your buckets and net and head to some creeks on Cayuga by looking at your gazetteer map. I know I am not much help, but do some scouting by day and head back out in the afternoon to evening hours and get set up. Good luck,

I use the Scotty retriever on one of my Cannon's because it was the only brand they had at Gander. I don't know if I fish as much as you guys but my wife would beg to differ, that being said, I haven't noticed the wear and tear on the coated cable as stated above. I use a 15 lb Shark and a Black's release so I can remove the probe, this is the corner rigger and I usually extend the boom around 3'. When I pull the weight in though, I am really careful bringing it to the boat, yet I am confident in my terminations. A question about the dedicated probe rigger idea? Does this mean you are using a rigger for the probe and not putting a rod and spoon or attractor down there?

has anyone heard when the canandaigua trout derby will be
FLXTroutman replied to tandmbait's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I just checked the canandaigua chamber website, no info yet, and the camp good days site, no info yet. I would put my money on June 12 and 13 as stated by cdga troller. Stay tuned. -
Hey Make The Turn your link does not come up, probably typo http://service1.searchguide.frontier.co ... J1PIYNZwTt

hey blkdog, maybe you could have made your first post a little more helpful instead of so sarcastic, oh yea it's winter and you must be a little bored, luv2fish, check the ice fishing / pan fishing forum for a little more constructive general advice, then get out there and give us a report, Canandaigua lake is iced up in the north and south ends, so I am not sure how you would fair in the north of seneca, the boat launch area at the North end may be iced up too, but I don't know for sure

here you go gaj Penn 345 and Penn 340 illustrated here from A TOM MIK For a rod the Ugly Stick BWD1101- 9' is the one A TOM MIK sells I think it has nice action

I took Yankee Troller's advice 2 seasons ago and picked up a 600' copper, metered every 100' from A TomMIk. I run in it down the chute in Canandaigua Lake, and it is a very effective set up, versatile for different depths, and occasionally you have to move it a round the back of the boat to get it out of the way when reeling in another rod. Furthermore, it caught the biggest trout I have put in my boat on the lake at 12 lbs. ( I know no big deal to you salmon trollers, but hey it's close to home) The rod that A TOm Mik sells has nice action for copper fishing.

The beautiful weather Saturday and Sunday reminded me of summer out there, alas though it was time to pack the boat up for the winter. Saturday I trolled north from the south end drop off to the first point, Coye Point?? not sure but I almost found out who lives on the point when I had a double on and had to keep reeling and steering away from the shore point. First time fishing alone in wind with a double on was exciting and hard to steer. Sunday was nice but no bites and packed up the equipment. Saturday's fish were a nice 7 lb lake trout that hit the the copper rod out 200' with my best producer all season, the Church Revelator green blade chrome/prism tape with the A TOM MIK Hammer fly with an echip tournament tied, and the second bite was a smallmouth bass off the Rapala J11 GFR on an inline planer back 15 passes, with a 2 oz snap weight 40' in from the planer board. Cheers to all the guys who fished aboard with me this year and looking forward to next season. my favorite rod and fly best producer all season which took all my big fish

I second Tom's advice, Hayes Canvas Works in Bath, very reasonable prices, I had my top with windows and side curtains restitched just ends and zippers ( he didn't recommend restitching clear vinyl windows) and restitched the mooring cover for $47.00. The first quote I got from another guy was $300 for the same job. Go figure. I had to drive to Bath though, just a half hour drive my marina.

I keep my boat at south end marina and didn't have alot of gas for north end run. BTW the photos don't do that fish justice, super chrome bright fish however maybe I was a little off on the length, still my boat's best rainbow on Canandaigua Lake. This year has seen my largest lake trout on this lake at 12 lbs, biggest brown at 7 lbs, and we didn't weigh this rainbow, snapped a couple pics and then released, a good year out there for my flashers and flies.

Hey everyone, hot topic today is the bow action on Canandaigua, I had tcon Tom and his son Dustin and Brett aka cdgn troller on board this morning. We trolled the west side north from the south end drop off, started south of Hawks Point. We moved east to west across the lake on a couple trolls working north south trolls from 125 -180 fow. Picked up a small brown on a orange Stinger sliding off a 40' rigger. Had hits on 42 nd spin dr with green hammer fly off wire parked at 165' also rigger hits on blue and white J9 rapala. Moment of the day brought to us by A Tom Mik Chicken Wing fly tournament tie with echip and Revelator attractor off the 300' copper, Tom took care reeling the hawg in at least 30" and 8 lbs, a beauty of a fish. 7 for 8 for the day 7:15 to 12:00, smaller 2 lb lakers and some shakers all went back but saved a couple for the grill.

TripleDub Outdoors Episode 7 - Snohomish Pinks
FLXTroutman replied to tripleduboutdoors's topic in Fishing Videos
Hey 3 dub, I used to live in Everett, is that the US 2 bridge? I used to launch near Lowell and motor up or down river depending on the current. Those pinks were fun to catch, even used to get silvers (cohos) in there too, thanks for sharing. -
Way to go Nick! Seems like the 'bows have taken up residence in the North end. I am going out Sunday with all my J9 rapalas back 125' down 25' 30' and 35'
-
Fished the south end started at drop off working to white rock, any where from 85-220 fow, best action was west side south of Hawks Point and mid lake area is where rainbow hit. Wire rod with mtn dew spin dr and hammer fly took a small lake trout, probe rigger with 42nd spin dr and no seeum fly parked @ 30' took the rainbow tcon is holding and also took the laker I am holding parked at 110', bait was at 80' in most depths, very nice temp of 56 from surface to 45' down. Next time going to try the blueghost set up he spoke of in his post.

Sunday looks like my best day to get out.

No kokanee in New York lakes. I used to live out west north of Seattle and used to fish an inland lake called Lake Stephens which held a nice population of kokanee. As stated by the post above these are land locked sockeye salmon. Those were stocked fish, however the the runs of sockeye into Lake Washington are sea run sockeyes which spawn in the resident creeks. People troll for them with a bare red hook if you can believe that. It mimics shrimp and krill which is the main diet of the sockeye and also gives the meat the intense red color. I used to use a small spinner set up made by Mack's Lures called a Wedding Ring. It had a spinner blade infront of several pink beads surrounding a "wedding ring" trailing a pink float body, think walleye floating worm body for instance.
