  1. Dude where have you been? Those are awesome Canandaigua Lake fish, my hat is off to you sir. Now, whatcha get 'em on???
  2. Last Sunday was slow for us, south end to vine valley, try north end east side dragon wall and troll south or west back and forth from pumphouse, I am assuming you trailer and will launch at North end, Mongo and Jason were out 2 weeks ago, sounded slow then too in north end.
  3. Not sure I hope it picks up if it was like last Sunday, I think with Saturday's wind and rain low pressure slowed things down, try again this weekend, hopefully better weather will make an appearance
  4. Sunday met Brett, cdga troller, the morning was nice, we had some breezy conditions, at least no significant rain for a couple hours, we moved around from white rock to Hawks Point to north of Vine Valley only managed 1 skipper of 300' copper off an inline board, dropped two others one quick off the wire and another behind the boat.
  5. Another thread mentioned neaderthals in driftboats without lights in the dark fishing. Perhaps leaving your bumpers out and having Oreos ready to throw may come in handy. At least a spot light to shine them in the eyes for that deer in the headlights look should the cast near you
  6. Hit the Vine Valley area Sunday morning with fireplug but the fish just were not there, should have read Jerryz report worked west across the lake and did manage one skipper, and a lost a nice one off the 300' copper on an inline board. I think the board and the single treble fly gave the fish the advantage, tournament ties gentlemen remember, it is the better way to tie. Now I must get me some big boards and a mast. Talked to Mongo and Jay too, yea my ship to shore radio and antenna works after all, just need some one out there to hear a transmission. Beautiful morning out there
  7. The fish move around one day they are north of Vine Valley on the east side, 6 days later they are gone. If you put your rigs around the 35' 45' down you are in the right area depthwise. However downtemp affects that holding area also. I run riggers and wire dipsies, and run copper down the chute typically running flashers and flies. First light can be better fishing in my opinion, set up in the dark on top of fish, correct down speed can be the difference too, 2.25-2.75 can trigger the browns and bows.
  8. dude that's why you are the CRAZY YANKEE, the Oak site said most of the boys were staying home since it has been an offshore bite, but not the CRAZY YANKEE, you are the man, who's driving for you these days Rich or Craig?
  9. Quote: Waves weren't as bad as the day before, but it still wasn't any fun out there. One guy got really sick so his crew felt bad for him, and we headed back to the dock. Glad I wasn't out there, waves as high as the flybridge, damn dude!
  10. yes tons of bait pods in the 40 - 50 foot range over 180-225 fow and the bows were right in there at 40', down temp at 40' was 62, down temp at 60' was 51
  11. This is like Isaac Newton stuff, very cool observation, I tie my own tandem 4/0 octopus for glow squids you got me thinking to try 'em on the flies now.
  12. Well thanks to Brett and his Saturday report, we headed straight up the east side north of Vine Valley and set up in 180 FOW. Marks were from 40' to 80' down and we set riggers at 50' and 60' and wires on 3 settings out 135' and 210' Hot set up was Walker Deeper Diver in purple with mtn dew Spin Doctor with an A Tom MIk Hammer fly out 135' the wire running at 135' out took 5 Rainbows in 2 hours between 7:00 am and 9:00 am. We took a laker on a black dot Spin doc and no see um fly at 75' rigger. Then switched to another mtn dew Spinny/ hammer off the rigger parked at 45' at had nice bow wrap up in the copper down the chute and lost that one. That was around 9:45 and we already had 5 bows and and 1 laker in the box and tossed back a shaker laker. Nice morning, most bows I ever caught in one outing, ever. Biggest fish was 5 lbs.
  13. Thanks for the trip Ted, we will get them next time. Great sunrise out there today.
  14. Sir if you are looking for flasher fly combos, try Spin Dr green blade with crush glow/ crush glow and green hammer fly, Spin Dr mtn. dew blade with crush glow/ crush glow and original hammer fly, green and white echip pro trolls in 8" with color matched flies, black dot or green dot white blade Spin Dr with no seeum fly or hammer fly. 5 feet off the ball, deeper set, 10 feet off the ball higher set, for instance riggers parked at 90', 80', 70', and wires at 240' and 270'. Fish may be deeper so use 12 lb or heavier rigger weights and adjust counter depth to account for blow back, experiment, drive straight to avoid tangles, turn to entice strikes, watch out for weed balls, and have fun. Oh yeah and speed up because you are probably trolling too slow once you put the spoons away and switch to flasher/ flies. Church Revelator and A TOM MIK Hammer Fly black dot spin dr

  16. On Monday I went back out in the am, we were marking huge hooks at the 40 ' level, down temp was 68 at 40' down in the southend near the drop off. We just could not get them to go, wires and riggers at the 40' zone. Congrats on the nice 'bow, we had a nice morning on Monday though.
  17. Hi there, my wife and I hit the southend worked the west side from Hawks Point to Vine Valley, picked one laker on wire on a turn black dot spin dr hammer fly 210 on a 2 300' copper fired down the chute with mtn dew spin dr and hammer fly, and one of the rigger parked at 59' with green revelator and a green hammer. Breezy morning but sunny. Talked to Woody 5443? Tracy, and he was on the east side, I hope you guys did well. Back out tomorrow morning.
  18. Typical pattern, I think, for Canandaigua is for the fish to move south as the season progresses. I have also heard from an old timer that the fish swim clockwise around the lake
  19. I will be out of South End and would like to see if my radio works since I hail people and never get an answer. I will call you on 68 if that's ok. Not sure if I have bad antenna or just nobody with a radio out there.
  20. 21. sweet net job, that's a fat fish, perhaps you should get a net with a longer handle
  22. www.shorecatch.com is a good resource for on your own surf casting and small boat charters, party boats on Shark River in Belmar Marina in New Jersey are generally ok, we have been on several of them Point Pleasant or Manasquan Inlet would have party boats too, we sucked it up though now over the last few years and go out with Captain Tom from Nan Sea J Sportfishing http://nanseajfishing.com/
  23. Sutton's down in Naples sell the 600' spool, not sure of his price though
  24. I used to have DS400X on my old 14' Smokercraft and I would spilt that screen 50/200 and it was less than 4" diagonal here's a pic it was a good unit for it's size, color , 500 watts of power, my monochrome Lowrance LMS 480 which is probably ca. 2003 is no match but it came on my boat so I use it.
  25. Robert Hayes Canvas Works 6897 E. William St. Ext. Bath NY 14810 607-776-2357 as per a search a few weeks ago I found this name and number in a post by FISHINMAN aka Tom I took my canvas which includes a mooring cover and top with clear vinyl windows and clear side curtains to this gentleman to be resewn, he quoted me $75- $85 over the phone, I figured ok after he finished in an 1.25 hours my charges were $47.25. Before I did my search on the the lou board, I inquired with an (unnamed) mobile outfit who hits the Canandaigua marinas and he quoted me $300. Thanks Tom and thanks lou board for saving me some bucks, my boat is in Woodville at south end of the lake so I only had to drive a 1/2 hour to Bath.
