  1. We trolled fairly early morning from north end drop off to dragon wall again. We only had a few hours but we did get one lake trout around 4 lbs on a MI Stinger steelie stomper. We were back at the dock by 9:45. We then went back out around 2:15 pm for an afternoon troll and swim. My son Liam napped in the cuddy while we chased rainbows in the north end. We went east side dragon wall to Thendara and got on a 5 lb rainbow down 76' on a white proll troll echip with atomik mirage fly. We fished about an hour 2:30-3:30. Then went in to Kershaw to swim. Met breadman and his family in the shallows and he needed a tow back because he had charging issue. We swam and talked fishing before towing him to Sutters. Fun day and as others mentioned prettyt busy out there for a Tuesday afternoon. Saw chuck 527 out there for a morning trip and afternoon trip too.
  2. I had my family visiting for a week and was anticipating the hot August bite but we were met with wind and waves and rain and cold weather. Sunday August 10 we went out for the afternoon shift and did manage one laker in the hot afternoon sun on the Charnelia Wahl Special in an hour and half of fishing. We went back out early Monday morning August 11, and only picked up 2 lake trout again in around 3 hours Pelican Point to Long Point, to Black Point and back. Tuesday through Thursday the wind blew the rain fell and the boat just sat on the hoist while we hung out at the cottage. Friday August 15 we went out from Cottage City heading west, and marked 2 fish in an hour over near Tichenor Point, at that time I reeled them up and we ran south. We set up north of Cook Point in around 180 fow. Finally we started marking fish and bait. We ran along Mr Field's place with the green trawler past the Shamrock boathouse. Lots of hooks, and calm water to boot, warm air even as we mangaged to boat a rigger fish and a 300' copper fish with a flasher fly combo. We popped a couple skippy bows on little spoons on 7 color leadcore and 200' copper to round out the morning. The run south was worth it since we found a good screen with plenty of hooks and bait. After reading mottman's lament of the Canandaigua fishing as of late I was ready to chime in and curse the flea filled, weedy, not a fish to be marked jet skied, speed boating, pontooner, shore peeping waters until today. My brother in law and my niece came for a visit. We headed out Monday August 18 and had 3 riggers in the water by 1:00 pm. We marked fish right at the drop off in the north end so we trolled east to west from the dragon wall to the pumphouse. First fish came with only 3 riggers set after about 10 minutes. Lake trout only 2 lbs. but down 51' on the Charnelia Wahl Special. Another 45 minutes would pass and a rigger fired 58' down 45' back with a spoon, MI Stinger Orangasm, picked by my niece Emily. Nice 4 lb rainbow 22", we we reset the rigger and looked in the spoon box for another similar spoon, a MI Stinger Steelie Stomper. We stuck that spoon on a rigger 55' back 52' down another 45 minutes passed and that rigger fired 4 1/2 lb. rainbow 22". We picked up a couple skippy bows on 7 colors and 200' copper. We reeled them up around 4:30. Nice sunny day afternoon bite for Canandaigua made for some nice grilled rainbow for dinner. Also took the lake trout fillets and portioned them and wrapped them in bacon and pan fried them for an appetizer.
  3. My friend breadman was out Wednesday afternoon 8/6 and fished from Seneca Point and south on west side. They picked up 2 fish on wire divers on green dot spinnies with green flies. I will be out Sunday. Full moon though Sunday so I may start a little later after breakfast.
  4. It has been mentioned before but Mr Sutton is out of business, try these I just received them today: http://www.bladerunnerfishing.com/44-Feather-Weight-Flutter-Spoon_c16.htm http://www.bladerunnerfishing.com/31-Feather-Weight-Flutter-Spoon_c12.htm
  5. This is the Canandaigua weed and flea report, FLXTroutman reporting. Weeds seen sliding down rigger cables on the sonar, fleas of uncountable numbers fouling 30 lb. mono lines & wire diver lines. Just cut the lines and retie, less hassle. Copper lines only flea free gear in water. Marked tons of fish and bait on sonar in the riggers but no bites. Pretty frustrating since we had the same scenario Thursday afternoon as we had Sunday late morning till just after 1:00 pm. We jigged from noon til 1:00 on west side south of Onanda in 50-90 fow marked them but again no takers. On a positive note we had fun eating & drinking and telling stories. My new X 4 Probe worked like a charm on the old 840 Thermo Troll computer.
  6. I received my new X4 probe Saturday from Northwoods Outlet, best price anywhere, you have to call them and order over the phone because they cannot advertise the prices on the internet. I ran it today Sunday on Canandaigua Lake and it worked great. Believe it or not there are lots of currents on the FLX. Kudos to Northwoods Outlet in Pinconning, MI, NO NYS SALES TAX (SUCK IT CUOMO) google them they have Bert's products, downriggers, rods and reels, and the Fishhawk line of speed and temp probes INCLUDING the X4 D system.
  7. Excellent storyteller that Mr. Collin. All me mateys are spoiled for the bounty that Lady O giveth to them that seek her beauty.
  8. Thanks for the input guys. Frogger I tried placing the flat spot of the probe on my chin and did not feel anything. So that is telling me the probe is dead. Interesting note, I swam off the back of my boat yesterday after I tried your test and when I got close enough to my sonar transducer I could feel and hear the clicks from that ducer. I may just call Northwoods Outlet and order the X4 probe based on all your experiences with good compatiblity. Thank you LOU members.
  9. Took my son and my wife out for a short troll and swim Monday afternoon evening. We went south along west side with 200 and 300 coppers on boards with spoons and 2 wire divers with flasher flies at 150' and 170'. The 200 copper took a hit after 15 minutes, my son Liam wanted to reel it in and he gave it a good effort but the fish came off. I reset it and turned back north running more middle of the lake. Turned once we got to the pumphouse near west side to head south again and the 150' wire fired with a green dot spin dr and glow gator fly. That one was a good hit and came off as well. It was hot out there so it was nice to get some bites despite the heat wave. We bagged it and jumped in the lake to cool off before heading in. Back at the dock at 6:45 pm.
  10. I stopped by Captain Gray's Bait and Tackle on the Canandaigua City Pier Sunday morning. I met Jadon and Ann Hoffman, the owner's, we talked fishing and they let my son Liam look at all the bait tanks and handle almost everything in the store. They do have sawbellies so anybody looking for sawbellies they have them. Perch minnows and bass minnows as well crabs, nightcrawlers, etc. They open at 7:00 am weekdays and 6:00 am weekends. I asked him where he gets the sawbellies. He told me he gets them from one guy who nets them in Keuka and occasionally Seneca. Then the bait man has to hold them for 30 days before he can sell them to the bait shop. Here is their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/captaingraysbaitandlakeshop Jadon and Ann are super nice people and the bait shop has been a family business for a very long time. Let's help support local business's and shop at Captain Gray's.
  11. I am wondering if anyone uses a new Fishhawk X 4 probe with the older 840 display and old triducer. I have tried to use the old 840 probe once in awhile but it doesn't read, I have a manual and have made several adjustments to gain etc. with no luck. I can get the red led light to flash in the probe when the battery is connected but not sure if it is staying lit or "on" when the probe goes in the water. I am just curious if the transducer ever dies? I have had an experience needing to replace an older Lowrance transducer for my LMS 480 and it reads great after replacement with a new dual frequency transducer. I don't want to buy an X 4 probe and have a bad triducer. The currently installed fishhawk ducer will give water temp but not surface speed (which I am not concerned with), I have Moor speed and temp but the probe has died, so I am exploring my options.
  12. I hitched a ride aboard the breadman boat, we hit the drop off and trolled southeast toward the dragon wall. Hoping for action like cdga troller had we ended up in search mode as the fish had moved out deeper. We stayed east past thendara out in 200 fow. Picked up 2 fish on wire diver out 287'. Green dot pro troll and mirage fly was the best set up. Also had a laker on the rigger down 85' on a black and silver cabela's spoon. We were back at the dock by 8:30 am due to prior commitments. Two out of three were fin clipped, but just good table fare 2-3 lb lakers.
  13. Took a friend and three 8 year old boys out early Tuesday morning from Seneca Point. Lines in by 5:45 first fish hit a 300' copper with a NK mag black/ green mtn dew cup around 6:00 am. Took the 3 boys awhile to land her but I helped them out and they put a lake trout in the boat. While they were taking turns on the copper rod and I was instructing and watching them and I noticed a rainbow jumping 20' back behind the boat, fish on. Quint took the rod but the fish came unbuttoned. Sutton 44 down 31' back 30'. Mid lake action was where they were in front of the condos. We then trolled south as the wind was picking up. I decided to bag it at 7:30 reeling in the last rigger on the pop a lake trout hit right at Seneca Point 165 FOW 41' down 40' back Sutton 44.. So my friend Drew got to reel in nice fat male lake trout. The kids in were in the cuddy so they missed out. At dawn it was flat calm but she really kicked up by 7:30. Not as bumpy by the time I got back to the north end heading to Sutters.
  14. I have unplugged my Cannon's before while fishing to see if it makes a difference, jury is still out I guess. Have fun with your new boat!
  15. I confirmed this news with sheriff's office just now at 2:38 pm Thursday, see Keuka post regarding no motor boats and Ray K' s insightful post due to possible increased boater traffic for Memorial Day weekend.
  16. Very insightful post from Ray K., perhaps your best work sir
  17. 5 mph speed limit covers the whole lake in effect since Monday, I know one of the sheriff's who patrols the lake. Be careful out there, but have fun.
  18. I have been on the breadman you should check his rocket launcher out. He has it mounted midship just as a rod holder. Gotta be at least 8 rod holders on it.
  19. My friend Alan had Monday afternoon free so we went out on his boat. Two other guys joined us and we left dock around 1:00 PM. Motored out to pumphouse and got set up. We ran 3 riggers, 2 wires, and 4 planer boards along the west side. Tried the FLT KOS echip flasher with gator fly on a deep rigger. Ran the probe up and down with spoons and had 40 degree water everywhere. Planers were 2 coppers with spoons and 2 leadcores with sticks. We crossed to the eastside and ran past Letourneau, in 220' heading towards Longpoint. Picked up a lake trout on downrigger at 125' on a spoon around 2:00 pm. We were marking fish all along eastside from Letourneau to Bare Hill. Fish were down 80'-150' in 200-240 fow. We went all the way to Hawks Point in the southend on Westside and came back up the eastside. Finally around 6:00 pm we had wire diver hook up back just north of Longpoint. Green dot spin dr and mirage fly out 150'. Fish were on the smaller side but it was nice to be out and get some fish for the grill.
  20. You should hit Canandaigua, work the south end drop off into the shallows, keeping gear up high at first then maybe go deep if you have to. There has got to be some stained water down there. Work through the stained into green water, just like you would on Lake O. I used to keep my boat at Smith Boys in Woodville and never had to motor far to find fish. One of the latest Keuka posts by ioiosoofftoworkigo said he was getting fish on wire divers set at 280'-300', the same can hold true on Canandaigua if you can't get them going on planer boards and long leads on shallow riggers.
  21. Daiwa 4000 C Spinning Reels, 2 available, large capacity skirted spool, salt water type reel, used very little in freshwater only, from Michigan, Tuna's Reel Troubles went through them, asking $40 for both, PM if interested and give me your number and I will call you. Thanks
  22. I wanted to attend the meeting but was unable so thanks sk8man for listing the topics of discussion. I will join the diary program again as I had participated one year and kept good records and then we added a child to our family and my trips were fewer and I kept terrible records, since I was just glad to get out and fish. I am curious about the browns as I have fished Canandaigua for 10 years since I relocated to the area. I have caught a few good sized fish trolling over the years, but only one dink last season and none the prior 2 seasons. I remember the Canandaigua Trout Derby a few years back before they changed the format ( 3 or 4 years ago), the top 5 fish placed were all browns caught by still fishing with sawbellies. No doubt they were hawgs and probably wall hangers but they had to be breeders that were taken out of the system. Unless of course the DEC says the browns don't naturally reproduce as they say with the lake trout. Perhaps the browns have become more weary of the fishing pressure concentrating on the abundance of bait which I seem to see year in and year out. Also as Bigfoot stated the numbers of anglers providing data for any of the lakes can be incomplete due to the number of anglers not providing data. I know after seeing tg8's picture of a burbot last fall caught on Canandaigua I will be doing more jigging this summer attempting to catch one of those fish. And I will do my part to keep every lake trout I catch and give them a good smoking and provide fillets to my neighbors family.
  23. I took a trip out with Al on his boat Sunday. Al brought his son and his friend Steve and Pete Collin and I rounded out the crew. We got started around 8:30, setting up two riggers, two wire divers, and four planer boards with copper and leadcore. We set up a little north of Menteth saw lots of fish on the sonar, saw lots of boats fishing, I think it was a FLTA tourney going on out there. We had a lot of laughs but not many fish. Very slow for us until 1:20 pm when we quit. We only managed one bite but it was a brown trout on 7 colors with a monkey puke mi stinger. Fish was under size and released unharmed. Good looking brown though and glad to finally catch one this year.
  24. I think since the north end launch through Sucker Brook to the last bouy at the end of the channel to the lake is shallow it is more related to the city of Canandaigua draining the lake down for winter.
  25. Since the weather was going to be warm Monday I took my wife Bonnie and son Liam out for a quick afternoon troll in the north end. We fished from 4:00- 5:15. Ran two riggers with spoons and 200' copper and 7 color core with spoons. The wind was blowing out of the south but it was fairly warm out there. We trolled south on the west side from the pump house to German Bros and took a nice bow on the rigger at 60' down. Turning east from German Bros is when the fish hit in around 135' of water. Short trip but we had a nice BBQ bow for dinner. Read a post in walleye section which mentioned solunar table for best fishing times around the full moon. When I checked "best fishing times" for yesterday it said major time was 3:00-5:00 pm. Go figure. I still want to try to get out few more times. Notice the pic of the nice kype on this male specimen. He provided nice thick fillets for a 22" fish. My scale battery was dead but I would guess he was about 4-5 lbs. Mi Stinger monkey puke lured him in.
