  1. If your fishhawk probe gets wet inside it's probably a bad o ring and end cap. I had the same problem last year. Google fishawk, they have new owner or parent company, I got a new cap and 3 o rings for around $12 ( I think) and quick shipping, nice friendly CSR's. If you need a new "used" probe, since I am guessing yours is on the bottom of the lake, they do show up in the classifieds here, good luck.
  2. I know this is off topic but, Tom did you sell your house, move, design a kitchen to give cooking classes, then get shut down by your town or denied a home occupation special use permit?
  3. What time of year with poor results? Canandaigua is a big lake and you need to find the fish. I have yet to get out this year , however, I was told by an old timer who pulls copper the fish were stacked up in the middle of the lake. What this means to me is between Black Point and Seneca Point on the west side and between Bare Hill and Vine Valley on the east side. (The fish location will change by the time you go out though.) Lakes near bottom and suspended and bows and browns likely suspended over the lakers. I like to run Spin Drs and flies off riggers and dipsies, and Echip flashers as well. Green and white paddles are usually good attractors to start with. I run spoons once in awhile NK spooks, black raspberry (cloudy, dark days), anything orange, monkey puke, and baby shower (pink and blue) on sunny days. With boards, if you are using inlines, rig them to release so they can slide down to a bead and barrel swivel or a flouro leader with a bead & a snap swivel, you will lose fewer fish and have better hook ups. I like Rapala GFR, Crystal Minnows, and Black and silver, Smithwick Rogues Orange and Black and Black and silver, and a no name walleye stickbait green glow with red dots. I also like to use diving stickbaits in white and red and orange sometimes with a snap weight for added depth. Good luck, lake trout derby is June 6 and 7, if you want to enter you need a derby ticket, boat launches will be busy if that is when you are coming, arrive early to beat the crowd.
  4. I agree with OTL, lose the snubber. I troll Canandaigua. Even king fishing YT doesn't use snubbers. I caught biggest fish of my life, 30 lb fall king on the YT in Oswego harbor off the wire dipsy on a 3 setting 30' out (yes 30 feet out) no snubber, and she ran to 420' at least, maybe more.
  5. hey chromeslayer, what length is your berts track? 24"?
  6. Hey fireplug, I am headed out of town for the weekend with the little mrs. to the Jersey shore, hopefully I can at least toss the surfcaster out for the chance at a striper or a bluefish
  7. This month's GLAnger mag had a reader submitted "light box", looks like a large Plano box for muskie lures, lined with tin foil, with a "clothesline" at the top, lures hung on it and a black light (12 volt type found in auto parts store to pimp your ride) laying on the bottom, then put battery type hoop connectors on wires and connect to your battery. Voila!
  8. I like Dan's advice, that way you're not re-spooling all the time plus it gives you an excuse to buy more stuff DAN
  9. The new X-4 was designed to work with the old displays, in case you lose your probe you will just buy the X-4. I needed some new o rings and a new cap for the old probe last year, very nice CSR's and cheap, quick service.
  10. nice pics, best screen name on the board! Does your buddy play guitar? cuz it looks like he's making a G chord
  11. Kwikfish sizes Jointed 8, and straight 9, 10, 11, 12, and M2 sizes in order and see colors in pic. Good for river drifts or slow troll. 1.00 each PM or email [email protected]
  12. ok, I will now hazard a guess that it is a compound word that starts with a "@" and ends with an "!", which maybe I should buy from &*$G M!. ( please note I have replaced the letters with symbols so as not to give away your secret, I don't Sudoku but I do like puzzles)
  13. What is that white wire running up to your wire rod visible in the first pic?
  14. If you are running a wire rod with a dipsy, attaching dipsy to swivel, then around 8' of 30lb leader from dipsy to spin dr and fly 22"-24" behind attractor a good rule of thumb is roughly 3:1 ratio of line out to depth (even on a 2.5 - 3 setting). For instance, if you are marking fish at 50' down, 150' out is roughly 50' down. I have marked fish 113' down in Canandaigua Lake, lowered the wire dipsy to 339' on a 3 setting and hooked up. YMMV but if you are running mono, you will not achieve the depth and it would prove difficult to "pop" the dipsy. If you only have mono dipsy rods you could probably get away with fishing depths 25'-50', I am no expert but you should be fine at these depths from the latest report from the area. The water is still cold and fish are riding high in areas.
  15. I think the top pic shows the stickbait he was using, 5 color lead core would be down around 25'.
  16. I have two Tite Lok rod holders which I would like to mount into Bert's Track or Traxtech track, is there a mounting bracket available to make this happen? I have two Bert's Ratcheting Rod Holders on single mounts right now which I would then slide into the track. Just trying to save a few bucks on purchasing more rod holders at the moment.
  17. TX-6 Magnum Mini Planer Boards 2 Port and 2 Starboard reduced price 2 for $8 or $16 for all 4 PM or email [email protected]
  18. Thank you Turp, that is a good program you have working.
  19. Rapala GFR, orange Bomber, those colors are hot in the upper water column. Are you running that 5 color with the sticks? Down the chute or off planer boards? Good temps for that top 25' of water. Nice job, too bad I am at work
  20. Muskybob deserves to be addressed as "Super Moderator" sir, I don't know him personally but I think he must be a great guy, he just wants to see that the forum works. Your choice of adjectives to describe him and personal attacks are just well, uncalled for. The way any forum works is you provide info, read info, share what works for you.
  21. http://www.fishusa.com/Blacks-Downrigge ... lip_p.html this is a great downrigger release
  22. "Jax has got to be the only person that does their hair before fishing in the morning. " That's hilarious, he looks well dressed too, even matching Team coats gentlemen?
  23. I have seen Erie walleye charters use them, with stickbaits in the variety of sizes to reach targeted depths fish are at, in conjunction with dipsy divers a lot of the walleye charters don't use riggers, since walleyes can be more spooked by the cannonballs and rigger wire hum.

  25. here is a shot from my old boat Last year I went to Gander Mtn, but it took me forever to find what I wanted, they don't know what they have and I had to search for it. Either Mason 7 strand wire or another brand but I can't think of the name, some wire is stainless steel color some is camo color or sort of brown color. Most spools are 1000' feet. Tie the wire direct to the spool, and have someone hold the wire spool tightly as you reel the whole spool of wire on, it is very important to wind it on tightly. If you don't get it on tight, connect a 1 lb. ball to the snap swivel with out any rig or hooks and moving as in trolling let it out in deep deep water and then reel at all back in watching so that it is even and tight. You may not have to let all of it out. (search wire line knot on this board, it's basically a half hitch onto the snap and then an overhand knot above it, Tim Bromund has posted a nice pic by pic of the knot somewhere.)
