Try the Finger Lakes discussion board, just scroll down from this forum. There a few regulars who post there that might be able to help you. I would say just get out there with some long leads of a rigger down 15' and drop one rigger down 50' - 75' with shorter leads and see what happens. Mix of smaller spoons and mags and see what they want. Planer boards with sticks too could get you into browns. I just saw you don't have a fishfinder, maybe don't drop a ball down 50' or 75' unless you are sure that you are in the deepest part of the lake. Here's a link to lake map good luck out there. Don't forget to grab a free permit at the north end of the lake before you venture out. I think it's 10 HP or less for motor size too. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_ ... clkmap.pdf

As an observer for '05 and '06 for Yankee Troller I can say he hired two observers those years so one day I observed and the other day I fished. I think that is a good idea if you are having trouble "hiring" an observer. Also I learned alot in those two years and I just fished the Niagara Pro Am with Yankee. I observed one year with Glen of Spoonfed and the other year was with Lil Bit Cra Z. After talking to Yankee's '07 Niagara Pro Am observer he was on a boat that sounded like a very fun group of guys albeit one guy was mooning every boat that went by and other unmentionables but it sounded like they knew how to have fun. Willie Nelson's "Bloody Mary Morning" was that boat's song I think. I know this is a competition and it costs money to be in it but it is all about having fun. Just ask the Mayor of Wilson, now that guy knows how to flare up a party.

I had a very old unit that I bought used that worked for a few months got me through last season. I even had to do some soldering of the power cable to circuit board in August. Then trouble with water in probe, circuit board issues in the pod from vibration and rough water. I returned it to them in February when they have their sale and my unit was beyond repair, they said they hadn't seen one that old in a long time, like 20 year old unit or something. They cheerfully sold me refurbished pod, mounting bracket with rubber washers (very important to mount pod bracket correctly to boat with attached rubber washers at thumb screws to absorb vibration) with antenna and probe for great savings over new unit. However I did have a "broken" unit in for repair and it was middle of winter. I don't what pricing would be in their peak season. I felt that Dwayne the customer service man I dealt with was very kind and understanding and fair. -
Here is the story for you Fishstix, my google search for a pic of the Michigan State record lake trout of 61 lbs. caught back in 1997 ( I think) yielded this story of the Colorado state record laker caught May 23, 2007. I will keep looking for the Michigan sate record photo of the pig caught out of Lake Superior near L'Anse Michigan. http://www.troutworld.com/?act=hls&id=126 http://dnr.state.co.us/imagedb/images/3736.JPG EDIT 6:14 PM June 5, 2007 Here is a pic & short caption of Michigan state record laker caught in August 1997 http://myoutdoortv.com/trophyroom.php?t=32 New York State record laker currently stands at 41 lbs 8 oz. caught in Lake Erie on August 9, 2003.

Saw a two mouthed laker caught in Canandaigua last year and the guy that caught it has had them on in past years too. Kind of crazy looking

That craigslist Penny just a had a price drop 10,500 now I think, the ad says need to pay bill, family problems, so maybe more negotiable if he gets desperate http://rochester.craigslist.org/boa/343535668.html

that animation is very cool. gotta love technology, GLAngler had an article recently about "hunting" for temp breaks on Lake Michigan -
There's a 21' Penn Yan on Rochester craigslist.org, under boats section, nice looking rig with enclosure, radar arch planer masts, 11,900, guy's getting divorced I think, check it out wish I could get it,

I believe wire dipsies have a particular vibrational signature not unlike downrigger hum, copper does the same thing whether it's " pulling copper" with Suttons or trolling with 600' of copper pulling a Spinny with a Hammer. Check out fishdoctor.com, Ernie Lantiegne rigs a Penn 360 with 600' of copper with a rod and "color codes" every hundred feet with crimps numbering the footage. Sweet rigs for a about $205 you could do it yourself but Ernie does it for you and saves you the hassle. He is the fish doctor afterall, also anglers aboard his boat won Fall LOC '06 and Spring LOC '07, that's $40,000 in prize money he shared in. Damn he's good but here comes the Yankee Troller!!

Team Yankee Troller pulls into winner's circle! Sweet dude, can you say repeat next week!

Headed out from the south end at 5:30 am to around Vine Valley set up in front of one of my landmarks and worked a couple spoons off the rigger, rodney NK 28 down 80' with an orangasm slider both these spoons picked up small lakers. No flasher fly action or sticks off boards. Surface temp was 51* and down 65' was 46* even 46* down 80'. Beautiful morning but slow fishing, packed it in around 9:30am.

Very nice looking enclosure Tom, nice craftmanship always takes longer.

I use a glow squid 22" behind a white/prism/glow 11" Hot Spot flasher in Canandaigua Lake quite often, using a tournament tie with treble and single octopus hook, or two single octopus hooks, works out there quite well, I have not caught a laker on a Spinny in the fingers, I have run the baby Docs and the standard Spin Doctor, however I only have white ones.

The LOU.com folks never cease to amaze me, you are the smartest most considerate of the fisherman around too bad, the knuckleheads without $10 bow lights can't use a computer or they might see this discussion.

Alcoholic Beverages on-board...what is the law?
FLXTroutman replied to Draggin Ballz's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Not sure about the rule for Lake O, but on Canandaigua Lake at the North end boat launch there is a sign that reads "ZERO TOLERANCE", I have heard that in the afternoon on weekends the sheriff will sit at the dock area and check people as they get out of boats. I am usually off the water by the time the weekend cruising crowd is out so I have not seen them first hand. Also the sheriff will sit in the parking lot across from the entrance and look for expired tags and malfunctioning trailer lights. Best advice I would say is captain should not drink , as for the rest of the crew, just be smart, but have fun cuz that's what it's all about. EDIT, JUST FOUND THIS: New York State has passed legislation to lower New York State's "Boating While Intoxicated" blood alcohol content (BAC) threshold from .10 percent to .08 percent. Under the law, a person found to have a BAC level of .08 or more while boating will lose the privilege to operate a boat for one year, and will also be subject to a fine of up to $500 and up to 90 days in jail. Under previous law, these penalties applied to the .10 BAC level. New York State mandates a six-month suspension of operating privileges for the first finding of "Operating a vessel after having consumed alcohol;" and a suspension of one year or until the operator reaches the age of 21, whichever is greater, for a second or subsequent combination of consumed alcohol findings and/or alcohol-related convictions. The law requires that operating privileges be suspended for one year if a person under 21 refuses to submit to a chemical test requested by a police officer who has "reasonable grounds" to believe that such person operated a vessel after consuming alcohol. The law also directs that such suspension would be for at least one year or until the operator reaches the age of 21, whichever is greater, if there is a prior alcohol-related vessel offense or finding. The law provides for a special hearing procedure in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to ensure prompt and efficient adjudication of the new offense before DMV hearing officers. -
A bit off topic but ,a question about your temp readings, I put sub troll probe down in Canandaigua after rerigging new probe and got speed readings and temp but temp reading didn't change much from surface to down to 25'. ( I didn't want to risk losing probe if something was wrong with rigging so I didn't run it very deep. Opting to lower starboard rigger to marks @ 75'- 100' Around 39* for the most part except extreme north end in shallows where temp was 42*. I kind of thought maybe it was not working right, until I re- checked on my way back to launch.

Thanks for the info, nice catches though with the tough fishing, for some of those guys. From my experience the last 3 years ( and Monday morning, later start than I had hoped for the drive to Woodville) the south end is definitely the better location for Canandaigua. The north end does have some browns and rainbows lurking high while the lakers hug the bottom. I was targeting the brownies and bows, I will get 'em next time.

Drove to south end sunday to check it out and it got my boat envy going. I think it must have been the Avon Anglers first tourney on Canandaigua, saw some nice Sportcrafts and Penny's in the lot after 12:30 pm. Just looked at the boats with my better half, then went home to finish rigging the FLXTroutman. Got up early Monday and just went to North end trolled around west side to Menteth Point then back up past pumphouse. Ran small spoons, small sticks on boards, then sent Rapala HJ 14 Orange and black, out 200' then board 100', picked up pickerel, tossed 'em back not sure if it's pickerel season.

I saw a Roemer release set above the probe, that's a moveable clip with a release kind of like a blacks or dubro, permanently attach the probe with crimps (and that horseshoe thing that I can't think of the real name for)and use the 130c 3M tape and wrap it right. You get a better watertight connection when done like an electrician would do it. You actually use that tape opposite of what you would think. Tape from outside of the roll , stretching it until you get a slight color change, I guess and overlap 50% of each lap. Also it's a good idea to tape it up with weight attached to ensure good metal to metal connection. There have been good posts here before the spammers, and at GLA.com, I even ran ST900 with the probe direct to a blacks with no tape and still had readings to about 100'. However Steve Weiner had the set up I speak of with the Roemer, and he showed me his set up, clean, watertight, and with the Roemer you could run the lures 6" or 6' from the ball and the probe, Roemer also makes the Liberator which can be used for stacking, or MUP rigs. http://www.roemerrelease.com/Release1info.htm http://www.roemerrelease.com/prod01.htm

YT, the boat looks good, I have to ask what is rolling season? I wonder if it was a typographical error or something, I thought you were in educational publishing? Or does the printing business have a "rolling season" ? Talk to you soon.
