  8. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Finders Keepers ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 9/16 Time on Water: 6:30-1pm Weather/Temp: Partly Sunny Wind Speed/Direction: south 10-15 becoming NW around 10 Waves: 2-4's subsiding Location: Sodus =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: 2 coho's 1 brown Hot Lure: Stinger Green Penguin early, then chrome green dot spin doc with hypnotist fly Trolling Speed: 1.9-2.4 Boat Depth: 90-130 Lure Depth: 90-125 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== We decided to make another trip out on the big pond when we received a request for some pics of our boat in action and some video footage. After nearly sinking the boat to start the day (helps if you put the plug in before heading out ) we headed out and set-up over 90 fow a little west of port. Set the first rigger with mag green penguins (main line and a slider), then started to get the second rigger ready when the first popped! Boated a nice 12 lb coho. Thought it was going to be a great day, but proceeded to wash lures for a while before our 325 wire took a shot on a white with purple tape spin doc pulling a UV blue fly and we boated another coho about 10 lbs. we would then continue a slooooooow grind with a shot every now and then, missed a few short hits, then boated a small brown. We marked quite a few fish, but just couldn't turn them on. We did hear that there were 5 kings caught off of the pier, so there are definitely some sharks sniffing the skinny waters! A huge **THANK YOU** goes out to Warren's and Kyle for taking action shots of us with the new decals!! We'll make sure to credit you for the pics that end up being used!! Looks like this was the last trip for us on the big pond this year, now we're gearing up for the influx of perch into the bays next month!! Time to switch from heavy action rods to ultra-lites!!
  9. Sweet ride!!! I think you had the biggest fish of the day from what we heard! Nice job!!
  10. Has anyone heard, or can anyone on the tournament commitee comment, on what the fate of the Pro-Am's is going to be for next year? Are the east end events going to happen? Same format as this year, or going back to the old format or using a new format? I assume the tournament commitee is or will be discussing the series this fall - I just hope the details for the series for next year are finalized well in advance of the season and not sprung on the fleet last minute like this past year.
  11. Nice job!! I love the stats!! Never thought of looking at the season in that way before... Good luck this fall!!
  12. I know Warren's were talking about running a salmon derby in between the LOC's next summer, maybe they could orchestrate the east end?
  13. We thought there may have been some this am, but we were unable to go into the field today and the instability was less today too. We should be in the clear for a bit until the next push of Canadian air.
  14. The Wayne County Storm Trackers reported, tracked, and photographed numerous waterspouts off-shore of Wayne County this morning: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Storm- ... 8011776436 http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S2759115.shtml?cat=566 One held together and came ashore between Port Bay and Fair Haven but created no damage as it sheared apart: We suspect there may have been some off Monroe County, but there has been a lack in response to our call for support in that area. So we are opening it up to any fishing craft that frequents Lake Ontario waters and would like to become part of our on-water/near-water spotting network. Our #1 goal is public safety and relaying information to save life & property. Drop me a PM if interested.
  15. The following statement was issued by the International Centre for Waterspout Research: The Szilagyi Waterspout Index (SWI) is indicating a waterspout outbreak for the Great Lakes starting Friday and continuing into the weekend. What meteorologists call a "pipeline to the arctic" is setting up which is a continuous flow of cool air from northern Canada. This will result in very favorable conditions for waterspout formation. The first week of September is also the peak of waterspouts season. Details at http://www.icwr.ca/ If you're heading out, good luck putting some huge slobs in the boat and be safe!
  16. I sure hope we never see those in Lake O!!
  17. Hey Jerry - I just saw your post. When did they run it?? I just tried looking back under all trout tournaments and salmon tournaments and there are none listed for this year (most were from 2007 and 2008). I'm just curious if it was listed under something else. Nice job at #131!
  18. It was brought to my attention that Bob's time was cut short at the meeting apparently due to the length of our presentation (even though it was mostly in response to inquiring questions from the captains). So I would like to appolagize to Bob, as you did have a much longer drive than us. If we were allocated only a specific amount of time, I wish the discussion and questioning had been cut shorter to allow you more time for your presentation, as your spoons do look great!
  19. Thanks Panfisher! Your points are right on the money! I spoke with our director, who stated that if everyone was reporting to us it would be way too overwhelming for us to handle, especially since we have jobs during the day to boot. After things get going maybe it can be expanded to include more participants, but right now that's just not possible.
  20. I have two degrees in meteorology/atmospheric sciences and over 10 years of prefessional storm chasing experience, so yes, I do have the meteorological credentials. Listen fellas, this did not come from me - I'm the middleman tying the two entities together: fishermen and meteorologists. I agree that there are many anglers without a capt license that could give "reliable" reports. I can suggest they open it up to everyone, but I can't guarantee they will accept it. Like I mentioned, the public reports 1,000's of false tornado reports. I can understand the research facility not wanting to have to sort through false reports. At the same time I also agree, the more eyes on the water the better. I can also tell you, the research facility I'm sure has to state to their funding agencies where they are acquiring their data/reports/etc. from and to have it stating the reports are from licensed charter captains, rather than simply anglers, looks better (politics at play). I'm in no way saying that is better. I don't know the politics and inner workings of the NWS or the research facility. What I do know is that the Wayne County Storm Trackers have the ability to report waterspouts to both of these agencies, who can then monitor the situation and issue marine statements if warranted. What I can do is run the idea of allowing all reports (captains and recs) to go to our director, who can then check the validity of the report and then pass the report on if valid or (in the terms of the agencies) "reliable". This is assuming he is willing and able to check said reports. (I'm currently awaiting his call) As far as a seminar goes, I don't think that is necessary unless people want to learn about how they are created, what are the storm and cloud development features to look for, and what weather patterns favor their development. I would pose the following question to those who think they know waterspouts already: in a thunderstorm situation can you tell the difference between low level clouds associated with a gustfront and a waterspout? Or when a lake effect shower is developing can you tell the difference between a small rain/grauple shaft and a waterspout, especially if it is 10-15 miles away from you? If so, great!! But most people can't and those are where the false reports come into play - it's not the cut and dry situations where there is no precipitation and the only thing between the clouds and the water is a thin rope with spray on the water surface. Plus, please keep in mind guys, this research agency just started up doing something that has never been done before, so I can understand why they might want to start with a small reporting group. And regardless of who makes the reports, the end result is to help make the waterways safer for us! Lake O is finally getting some much needed attention which may lead to additional research efforts coming this way - don't knock it! You guys want better surface temperature maps updated several times a day? That will only happen through research projects - we all know the government isn't going to spend monies on that sort of thing!! Be supportive of these efforts being put forth and offer suggestions for improvement - it's only going to help all of us in the future...
