  1. It's a sickness one gets - the only cure is to fish more often!! One of our kings today had us pumped that we had a 20+ lb steelhead on when it took two jumps at least 4 ft in the air!! I can't get enough of it...
  2. Ok, will do! Are you fishing either of the Pro-Am's coming up?
  3. It should! We'll be out again tomorrow looking for that 30+ lb'er!
  4. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Finders Keepers ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7/4/12 Time on Water: 5-11am Weather/Temp: sunny, warm Wind Speed/Direction: light sw Waves: 1' chop from sw with 2' rollers from west Surface Temp: 68 Location: Fair Haven LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 14 Total Boated:13 Species Breakdown: Kings, Steelhead Hot Lure: White green dot spinny with ultra green glow fly Trolling Speed: 2.2 - 3.1 Down Speed: 2.5-2.8 Boat Depth: 120 - 300 Lure Depth: 75-140 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Went out of Fair Haven today and started setting lines at 5:15am straight out of the chute over 120 fow. The FF screen was lit up with fish and bait, and after setting both riggers and a wire, the starboard rigger fired and started screaming! We're off to the races at the get-go!! On the way in, it managed to get the slider caught on the wire, then wrapped itself around the wire 4 times! Just as I was getting this almost tangle straitened back out, the port rigger fires and takes off! Doubled-up! We set the hook on the second rigger fish, then netted the first (a 22 lb king to start the day!). Then we brought the second to the boat and netted a 10 lb king. Both of these came on NK black/green glow mags. No sooner had I reset the riggers and the wire gets slammed! 15 minutes later another 22 lb shark hits the deck! That came on the white with green dots spinny pulling an ultra green glow fly. When the sun came up the fish and bait vacated the area and FF went blank, so we worked out deeper and found them again between 240 and 280 fow. We had a steady pick all morning along with a couple more doubles, our biggest for the day tipping the boat scale to 25 lbs. Seemed like many struggled today (from what I heard on the radio) as compared to yesterday, but we seemed to get a good program down. Today we were running the riggers 90-140 ft with 5-15 ft leads, wires on a 1.5 setting out 375 to 425, and on a 3 setting out 400-450. The white with green dot spinny with ultra green glow fly was the winning set-up, but we also took shots on NK black/green glow mags, UV Tuxedoes, and blue dolphin spin doc with aqua hammer fly. The fishing continues to be stellar, so if you get the chance, get out and get ready to hold onto a screaming rod!!
  5. We were off Fair Haven today, one of the wires was out 1.5 hours, when I brought it in it only had maybe 6 inches of fleas. They must be schooling off of Sodus! We ended 13 for 14 at 11am (25, 24, 22, 22, 20, 18, 18, 10, 10, 5 lb kings, 8, 8, 5 lb steelhead). Worked 130-165 early, then slid out to 230-300 later. Temp was down 80 out deep, 120 in closer. Hot rod was the 375 wire on a 1.5 setting pulling a white green dot spinny with ultra green glow fly. That rig took at least 8 fish including 4 of the 20+ lb'ers. Had several doubles, but no triples. Will post full report later.
  6. It's awesome hearing all these stories this year!! This is truely turning out to be a year to remember - and we're still only at the beginning of July!! Great trip guys and thanks for telling us all about it!!
  7. We're visiting Tupper Lake and Chautauqua Lake later this summer and will hammer down a lot of the loose ends and firm up the soft spots (as well as rally sponsors, meet with town/county officials and promotions reps, etc.). Like on Tupper Lake, the DEC site says there are land locked salmon and lake trout in there, so we'll be checking numbers, open seasons, etc. when we go there and may add additional species if possible.
  8. We know there very few if any pike in Chautauqua, that's why in the rules it states that the species will vary from event to event. The Chautauqua event will be for Walleye, Perch, and Panfish. Thanks for the heads up though!
  9. Nice derby king!! Gotta love the fishing this year!!
  10. Thanks! Actually, it was executed perfectly: after the A-TOM-MIK Challenge, Regents exams, and graduation, and before the east end pro-am's! I'm a teacher so I have the summer's off, and I didn't book any weddings during this time as a precaution too. While the pregnancy was planned, I was extremely lucky to have it fall within this two-week window!!
  11. Not a problem! The more people that are successful on the lake, the better! Just keep in mind, there are several factors that create the blowback (sfc speed, currents, lures, rod stiffness, etc.) so it can vary greatly from boat to boat, day to day, etc.
  12. Thanks guys! Two amazing days back to back! I'm on cloud 9!
  13. Well, I'm gonna be landbound for a bit - landed this 7.3 pounder this morning at 6:38am:
  14. Hey Troy, If they are Walter's, save me 4 packs of the strips please!!

  16. That's a great day on the big pond!! Looks like the better class of fish may be a bit further east from Sodus, as we only got one over 20 pounds.
  17. There's no real secret on "the spot", pretty much straight out the front door. Fleas are getting real bad! The FF worked awesome with virtually no fleas, but the wires were getting loaded (2-3+ ft) every 30 minutes or so. Flies weren't too bad until the wind died, then they started showing in numbers. The currents were interesting: east to west inside 180 fow, west to east deeper than 180 with a significant sfc slick in between. I'm not sure, but it looked like we passed someone's filet board off their boat or top to their cooler!! Ray - There really wasn't too much to figure out, same program that has been working all along. The screen was the best I have seen though, with lots of bait pods and lots of fish. Marked quite a few at 25 ft (likely steelies and coho's, although we didn't target those), with larger marks everywhere from 75 down to the bottom. One point to consider: we had significant blowback ont he riggers due to the currents, targeting 2.6 on the down speed, and fishing super deep. Just to give you guys without a probe an idea of what that translates to, we use 15 lb sharks and had our probe rigger out 165 ft at times but it was really only tracking at 115 ft!! We can get the true depth with the Cannon Intelli-probe. Chaz - Yeah, sorry about that!
