Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Finders Keepers ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 6/28/12 Time on Water: 5am - 3pm Weather/Temp: Overcast and hot Wind Speed/Direction: light and variable Waves: 1-2's going to glass/ripple Surface Temp: 67 Location: Sodus LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 35 Total Boated: 30 Species Breakdown: Kings, Steelhead, Lakers Hot Lure: Black Green Glow NK Mags, Green with white tape/green dots spin doc w/ ultra green glow fly Trolling Speed: 2.2 - 2.8 Down Speed: 2.4 - 2.8 Boat Depth: 130 - 220 fow Lure Depth: 90 - 165 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Today I was joined by Kyle (aka Apple Boy) and we said our goal was to get a LOC fish. So we headed out of port at 4:30am and pointed the boat towards our honey hole that has produced time and time again this year. With the blow we had over the last several days, I was anticipating the temp to be deep and the fish to be scattered in nature. Well, we started setting up over 90 fow and when we sent the probe down we had 63 degrees at 85 ft. We continued heading north and just as I was about to let out the second wire, the first wire got hammered and starting ripping line!! Gotta love a good screamer to start the day off!! Kyle was on the rod and fought a beautiful 18 pound king to the net: We had slid out to 140 fow at this time so we checked for temp: 50 degrees down 130. So that was our target and we started hitting fish one after another! At 7am we were 5 for 8, by 9am 11 for 15, by 10am 14 for 18 with many kings in the 14-18 lb range. The last two fish that hour were both 16 lb'ers and by the time we had the second in the net, we had slid out to 240 fow and were a good mile and a half off our waypoints. So it took a bit to get back on the fish, but they were still there waiting for us! As soon as we hit our honey hole, this beautiful steelhead nailed the 125' rigger: It's currently sitting at 7th place in the LOC. We boated a couple more steelhead and a couple lakers over the next hour, and it seemed the kings had moved out. So we took a little peek out deeper but found no kings, so turned back into our honey hole area to keep the steelhead and lakers going and WHAM!! The port side high wire rod gets whaled and starts singing out over 700'!! Once again Kyle was on the rod and this time brought a new personal best to the net: A sweet 22 lb king! We continued to work the same area and continued to pick up fish every 15-20 minutes or so. At one point, the port side rigger got whaled, but the fish didn't hook up (luckily), as we noticed the rod had a funny bend behind the reel - it had broken!! Swapped it out and we were good to go! Then a little later the circuit board in the port side rigger fried, luckily when it was topside and not down 175 ft!! Swapped out the fried electric with a manual and we were back in business, except now we were going to get a workout when that fired!! With tired arms, we decided to call it a day at 3pm. Just then the 145' rigger pops and Kyle's on it. 12 lb king. Then as we are pulling lines, the starboard wire gets hammered! 10 lb king. Almost a double to end the day! We finished with a grand total of 30 for 35. The ones we lost were mainly free-slider hits, which with the riggers so deep is to be expected. I have to say, Kyle did a great job fighting fish, keeping the boat straight, moving rods, and netting fish today!! Today we were running the riggers from 90-175 ft of cable out, low wires out 400-465 ft, and the high wires out 450-525 ft. The following took shots today: Black green glow NK mag, Stinger Black UV Tuxedos in Stingray and Mag sizes, green with white tape and green dots spin doc with ultra green glow fly, white with green dots spin doc with ultra green glow fly, wonderbread spin doc with glow hammer fly, blue dolphin spin doc with Chasin' Tail fly, and Carmel Dolphon spin doc with mirage fly. We had the spoons on the riggers with free sliders, and the spinnies/flies on the wires all day long. The fishing right now is by far the best fishing I can remember. If you can, get out there and have a blast!! Here are some more pics from today:

The Finders Keepers True Ontario Story
Finders Keepers replied to Finders Keepers's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Nah, but they are very comfortable!! Hey Matt - I'd really like to fish the Sandy Creek Shootout, but I believe it's the same day as the LSRC, and we're in for the Triple Crown. -
Sodus Bay 6/23-6/24
Finders Keepers replied to skeletonfish's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
More than likely you were fishing too shallow for the kings. General rule of thumb: if you're getting steelhead, you're fishing too high for the kings. They like the cooler water and I believe on Sunday (from what I heard) they were down 120-150 ft. -

The Summer LOC is going on now, and the next trout/salmon tournament for Sodus would be Capt. Jacks Big Fish Friday on July 20th followed by the Sodus Pro-Am Tournament on the 21st and 22nd. -
Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Finders Keepers ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 6-23-12 Time on Water: 5-1 Weather/Temp: Beautiful! Wind Speed/Direction: light NW Waves: 2-4's settling to 1' chop with rollers Surface Temp: 72 Location: Fair Haven East LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 23 Total Boated: 19 Species Breakdown: Kings & Steelhead Hot Lure: Black Green Glow NK Mag and Green with white tape & green dots spin doc with ultra glow green fly Trolling Speed: 2.3-2.8 Down Speed: 2.7 Boat Depth: 150-220 Lure Depth: 70-100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Since we didn't have time to pre-fish this event and some big kings were caught off Fair Haven the day before, we decided to fish east of Fair Haven near some of our previous waypoints. We left the chute at 4:30am and were greated with 2-4's out of the NW, but with a light wind. We motored out to 165 fow and at 5am set lines continuing on a northerly troll. Before we could set the wire rods, the port side rigger fired and started screaming! After a short fight we had a decent 15 lb king inthe box. Over the next hour it was non-stop action and by 6am we had 6 fish in the box including one pushing 20 lbs! So the rest of the day we kept upsizing. The hits came in flurries with lulls in between. By 1pm we were 19 for 23 (4 steelhead, 15 kings) and had a decent box to head back to port with. We had our riggers parked at 122 and 95 with free sliders pulling spoons, and the wires out 220-300 pulling spin-docs and flies. All rods took shots, and the following lures hooked up: Black green glow mag NK, UV Black Tuxedo Stinger Mags and Stingrays, Carmel Dolphin Stinger Mag, Green with White Tape and Green Dots Spin Doc with Ultra Green Glow Fly, Wonderbread Spin Doc with Glow Hammer Fly, Gator Spin Doc with 42 Second Fly, and White with Green Dots Spin Doc with Ultra Green Glow Fly. At weigh-in it was evident most teams had a great morning on the big pond, and many fish over 20 lbs were boated! It really looked like the Fair Haven Challenge in August rather than the ATOMMIK Challenge in June!! Despite having a great box totalling 92.85 lbs (152.85 pts), we ended up in the middle of the pack, as the larger concentration of larger kings were found further east off Oswego. So even though we didn't place, it was an amazing tournament with incredible catches by many teams, and we had a blast fishing that morning! We'd like to thank Tom for putting on a great tournament, and we even scored a few bags of goodies!! Congrats to Team Hot Wires for their 135+ lb box!! That's simply amazing for June!! We'll see everyone at the east end Pro-Am's coming up in a few weeks!! If the fishing remains like this, teams are going to need 2 coolers at weigh-in!!

6/22/12 Sodus
Finders Keepers replied to kylew's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Nice job! Wish I could have gotten out today, but had to wrap things up at school - last day for me!! -
Good luck to everyone fishing the Atommik Challenge this weekend! Hopefully it will be a slob-fest!!!

All bets are off this year with the fish averaging bigger. I think we're going to hear a lot of stories this August of break-offs, tear-aways, spooled encounters, .... If someone goes fishing this August without a LOC ticket, they are extremely foolish!!

Late Sodus 6/17 report
Finders Keepers replied to blueghost1's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Were you in the pack that was west of port? Seems they had a little more action than we did out front. -

free sliders
Finders Keepers replied to steelfire's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
We use Romer releases for fixed cheaters, and on free sliders just a simple clip on the line. We also typically use a 8-12' lead off the ball and 4-5' leaders for the cheaters/sliders. -

Flea season is beginning

Yeah, we were getting them on the wire lines Sunday off Sodus. Nothing too bad yet, but they're coming fast! Our 30 lb FF was clean the whole trip. -
Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Finders Keepers ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 6/17 Time on Water: 5:30-11am Weather/Temp: Partly sunny, warm Wind Speed/Direction: SSE 10-20+ Waves: 1-2's in close, 2-3's out deeper Surface Temp: 67 Location: In front of Sodus LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: Kings, Steelhead Hot Lure: UV Black Tuxedo Trolling Speed: 2.7 Down Speed: 2.7 Boat Depth: 80 - 180 Lure Depth: 35-100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== On Sunday we brought out Fox Rochester/News 8's John Romero and his son JD for some line-ripping action. We were setting lines over 85 fow soon after sun-up and before I could get the first wire in the water, the port side rigger fires and starts screamin'! JD let his dad take the first fish since it was Father's Day and it was GAME-ON!! The fish smoked-out several hundred feet of line on its first run, then had two more robust runs and we knew we had a good fish on! The fourth run was straight at the boat and when John finally caught up with it, the king was gone. After that, it was a slow pick the rest of the morning as the wind picked up strength and held us under 150 fow. We had a feeling the larger kings that were in tight early had slid out deeper, but to target those would make for a rough ride, so we held in tight to see what we could find. We had several short hits, one 14 lb king, a skip king, and about a 10 lb laker get off about 20 ft behind the boat. It was getting towards 11am, and John still hadn't put a fish in the boat, and had said he'd like to catch a steelhead. So we put out a shallow steelhead spread, missed a couple, then he finally brought a beautiful 9lb chromer to the net! On our way back towards the lighthouse we tried in closer for some browns, but they were M.I.A. and we would finish 3 for 10. All in all it was a great day on the water and both John and JD were happy with some fish for the grill later that day! I'll get pics posted as soon as I get the chance. We're hoping to get out once or twice this week to pre-fish for the Atommik Challenge on Saturday. Good luck to everyone fishing the Summer LOC - with the size of the kings this year, it's going to be a fun season!!

Nick's right - There are some days when our "typical" leads off the balls and longer leader lengths won't produce. As soon as we tightened either one or both of those variables, we started taking shots. So there's definitely a lot of room for playing around to see what works best, and getting that live feed on the video will be paramount for fine tuning the program!!
