Who's ready for the 2019 season?? What new products is everyone sporting this year? If you'd like to see some of the new gear coming out for the 2019 season, stop out to the NYS Spring Classic Sportsman Show this Saturday at Batavia Downs! As I was looking over videos of past events for some content for upcoming projects and to get psyched up for the upcoming season, I came across some footage from the infamous 2013 Atommik Invitational event showing the 30+ lb king we landed that day along with several other hits and the massive waves! I will never forget coming around the pierheads that morning and taking air during the shotgun start! Let's hope the current stormy pattern weakens for the upcoming tournament season! Enjoy and good luck this season! We'll see everyone on the water!!

Recently I was approached by someone who works with physically handicapped individuals about coordinating a fishing event for her group like we do for the wounded veterans. Initially she was looking to get them on the ice and, due to the slippery nature of the ice alone, I was not in favor of that idea and suggested maybe an open water event and that I would look into it for her. While I am all about offering on-water experiences, I have some concerns. So I wanted to get some feedback on a few things from others, guides and charter captains in particular, who may have had experiences to share since I do not take clients out and (other than the few veterans we have hosted) predominantly fish with just my team and some students from school. Obviously weather/wave conditions would be a primary concern and shore or bay fishing could be an alternative. Are there any particular liability issues to be aware of or special insurance requirements that would have to be met? Are there any events of this nature currently being conducted that I could potentially mimic in designing one for her group? Anyone have any stories good or bad to share? Suggestions, things to be aware of, etc. that I can take back to her should she want to pursue putting an event together? Thank you in advance for the help/info in this regard!

Spent some time tonight getting ready for the Winter Classic Awards Ceremony organizing over $4,300 in cash to give out plus there will be a trailer full of gear in prizes, door prizes, and raffles! Gotta be present to win this time and there's a ton to win!! Show kicks off at 10am and runs until 3pm, dinner banquet from 5-6:30 with the awards ceremony to follow! Also, for those coming to the Spring Classic Sportsman Show I will be showing the new Fish Fighter Products line and how I will be working with them to adapt their current systems to how we run our spreads out here in the Great Lakes. This new system will allow for an array of rod holders that are all hot-swappable and moveable with the pull of a spring pin. I'll be working with them this spring to adapt it into our current tracks (if you already have them installed, like the Cannon or Traxtech systems) or installing just the FF rails. Scott Brauer from Makiplastic will have his minnow race tracks there to have some fun with the kids, and will likely run a seminar or two where anglers always come away with extremely valuable information! Several of the vendors will be running giveaways and there will be some awesome deals to be had - like Koyote Ugly Spoons Inc flashers for only $20, including the new 2019 designs like the Oregon Special and the last of the Shockwave Glow design (only 25 left), and My Way Charters will be offering discounted rates for booking at the show for the 2019 season!! I also received the $10,000 in cash from Batavia Downs to guarantee that it will be paid out to one of the 1st place winners in the 2019 Summer Classic!! It's time to see what the Classic events can really pay out when we get several thousand to participate!! You can view the guaranteed payouts on the website at each attendance level. We'll also have a split event this year with the main event and a C&R Event running side by side - more details to come! To get a sneak peak, visit: www.NYSsummerclassic.com

untilThis is a statewide tournament event that allows anglers to fish any waterway in NY state using any legal angling method (in boats, from shore & piers, etc.) any time of day for a period of two months. It features 10 categories of fish to go after with an overall cash payout based on the number of anglers that enter. Anglers can bring fish in to any of the 60+ weigh-in locations across the state based on where they are fishing, and there is a protocol for fishing after hours. The event website has a map of the weigh-in locations, online leader boards, tournament announcements, and any other information regarding the event including registration. The event concludes with a sportsman show and awards ceremony to be held at the Batavia Downs Casino Resort, where all Top-3 placing anglers will be housed overnight as part of their awards package. Door prizes and giveaways will be handed out at the awards ceremony that all anglers are encouraged to attend! Any questions can be directed to tournament director Tim Thomas at (585) 330-0494. Yes you are correct in the 1-in-7 shot, however the first place angler who is chosen will have the choice between the 3 Grand Prize awards ($500 Cash, $1,000 HD10i-Pro Aqua-Vu Camera, or Free Fish Mount), the Second Place angler chosen will have a choice of the two remaining prizes, and the third place angler chosen will receive the remaining prize. The $500 cash could also increase to $750 or $1,000 cash if we receive enough entries. I doubt we will see enough to push it more than $1,000 this year...

Long range models show a pattern shift in the jet stream 1.5-2 weeks out, then the flood gates open for the cold out of Canada... Let's hope that forecast holds!

Agreed!! I think it'll come, just taking it's sweet time this year...

100% of prizes and payouts have been given out (with few exceptions like acrylic angler achievement awards that have not been picked up and I don't want to ship due to a risk of breakage, and last year's Steelhead award that hasn't been completed yet by the artist due to a delay in supplies). Because this is a statewide event, those who do not attend the awards ceremony to pick up their prize(s) have had their prize(s) delivered to their nearest weigh-in when we travel the state. If they don't pick their prize up we have no control over that and we are not going to ship the prizes as the costs would be huge. Occasionally something falls through the cracks and we have made right on all of those instances - like last year there was a wrong count for the number of Clam buckets for the event - I accidentally put 35 into our inventory instead of 25 and we were 10 short. As it turned out, some anglers won multiple buckets and didn't want them so we ended up having extras to give to those who needed them still. Other anglers have thought they could get rich from our event and that we would be paying out $10,000's in the payout event though like most other events, this one has an incremented payout with the number of participants. With enough participation this event could be one of the highest paying events in the country, but we're not there yet. This event is also being run by a corporation that will cover its expenses to set up and run the event, so we do not offer a 100% payback like some would like us to. However, since it is a company running the event and we do an astounding amount of legwork you will not find another event with a greater amount of prizes to offload due to the amazing sponsor backing these events have. These statewide events are not for everyone and we realize that no matter how much effort we put into them we will not make all anglers happy - and that's ok. But anyone who says we have not paid out what we said we would or given out what we advertised we would is a naysayer and their allegations are simply not true. We can track down virtually every item and know exactly where it went. If an item is not won or given back to the event by an angler it is put back into the prize pool either for the Summer Classic or Winter Classic.

Mark the date: The awards ceremony for the 2019 Winter Classic will be hosted by the Batavia Downs Casino on March 16th where all Top-3 placing anglers across all 7 categories will be given free lodging as part of their awards package. There will also be a sportsman show preceding the awards during the day from 10-3. There are currently over 200 registered anglers, ahead of last year's count and on track to take the event over 1,000 participants this year where the Grand Prize increases and we start packing cash into the Weekly Awards (largest fish entered each week for each of the smaller species, and new leaders for the Pike, Trout, and Walleye). Get all the latest info and check out the newest weigh-in locations at: www.NYSwinterclassic.com

Just a reminder that registration for this summer's event is open online and at most weigh-in locations! Those in the Rochester area can stop over to the Pelican's Nest on June 15th or 29th to register and have a shot at not only some nice early bird drawings, but you can also register for a 4-hr charter for up to 6 people on Bullseye Charters along with free tourney passes! **ATTENTION CHARTER CAPTAINS & GUIDES** This summer join the Captains Pool event and every fish caught aboard your boat or while guiding can be entered into the pool regardless if your clients are in the Summer Classic or not! In this event every fish can count to put you on top of the leader board, plus you'll receive free advertising/exposure across the Summer Classic tournament platform with links to your guide/charter service and highlights on Facebook for entering and when a new leader emerges! $165 registers your boat and gets the captain into the Summer classic as well! Payout structure is split 50/50 to trout and salmon divisions, then paid 50/30/20 to the Top 3 in each Division to start (more places paid with increasing participation). Additional cash awards for the captain with the overall largest Salmon, largest trout, and largest steelhead caught by a Summer Classic angler while on board. Get the full details within the Rules & Regs at: http://www.nysiceproam.com/SummerClassic/RulesRegs.html This event runs alongside all other tournament events and allows anglers to enter fish from other events (pending other event rules & regs). With some of the best fishing ever on Lake Ontario, this summer is going to be a fantastic tournament season!! Whether you're fishing the team Pro-Am events, Challenge events, or just the larger LOC and Summer Classic events, it's going to be GAME ON!! Tight lines everyone!! #Kingfest2018

At this point it does not look like it as all weekends are booked through August. If something opens up we will try to schedule the event in. There may be a couple other smaller promo events in Rochester on weeknights (the first likely Fri June 15th at Pelican's Nest, but this has not been confirmed yet).
