Some thoughts on termination of small baits
slipbob replied to Gill-T's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Like youp50 I remove the split rings on all my stick baits no matter the size and go direct with a small duolock on the small sticks and a larger duolock on bigger stickbaits. Lures can be easily changed and you don't have to leave a lure on the rod for transport. For something like a floating rapala you can bend/crush the nose loop down a little to give the bait a slightly wider wobble. -

You'll be fine to hunt again but probably with a lighter draw weight which is no biggie especially with the new bow technology. I shoot right handed and had a full right rotator cuff repair over a year ago. It was a complete tear and I had the surgery in April due to icefishing ending and trying to be ready for bow season. The PT was more than painful but I made a complete recovery with the only change being I bought and started shooting a 50lb-60lb Hoyt bow that summer and was able to practice and shoot plenty by September. Hunted that season with no issues and it's been fine ever since. I used to shoot a Martin but with the new bow technology my new Hoyt Faktor shoots faster than my old single cam Martin did at 65lbs. I'm still very careful and don't do pushups or pull ups anymore as I'm afraid of re-injury and just be prepared for a long tough road with the PT but it will work out for you. Good luck.

I love my Cabela's berber bibs, vest, and jacket. It's bulky but as warm as it gets for sitting in a tree hours on end when it's real cold.

I have been using the Moultrie M80's for a few years with AA lithium batteries which last a long time even in super cold weather. They are holding up extremely well and are so simple to use. Not great night pictures but they more than do the job for me and have never failed or broke even after several seasons of being out there in all kinds of weather.

This year I tried several brassicas including 3 kinds of rapes as well as Daikon radishes and turnips and a white clover/chicory mix to see what they prefer. For the 2nd year in a row the deer won't touch the purple turnip bulbs or the daikon radishes but have eaten the green tops off both. I also planted a buckwheat, millet and sorghum mix and they did eat the buckwheat tops early on but didn't really seem to care for the millet or sorghum. Out of everything I planted I still have a good amount of tall green dwarf essex and bonar forage rape and they are eating it more and more but they still far and away preferred the white clover/chicory mix. That got completely devoured down to the dirt. We still have some corn nearby that is currently being picked so I think that was drawing attention away from my plot but as the corn is being taken it will be interesting to see if they come back and hit the brassicas harder in the next couple three weeks. Next year I plan on skipping brassicas and going bigger on the white clover/chicory and trying to put in corn myself and see how that does. Last year the local corn was picked much earlier so it's hard to get an exact comparison from year to year but that certainly effects what and how quick they eat things in my plot.

I got a great deal years back on the TC Omega Z5. El Cheapo plastic stock but with a Beartooth comb raising kit and a good scope it made a $250 gun into something very decent. Whatever gun you get I strongly recommend using Blackhorn 209 powder. Easy to clean and you can shoot many times in between swabbings and it can be cleaned with regular solvent. You just have to make sure you use Magnum shotshell primers with the Blackhorn but the stuff is far and away the best. Lots of good bullets out there but I like the Precision rifle 240 grain dead centers out of Canada. They load and shoot great. Good luck.

Congratulations to you on a super nice buck. Persistence paid off that time.

An ENCON officer was shot last night investigating deer jacking at 5PM in Columbia County not too far south of me. Sounds like he will be OK but lucky to be alive. Some guys were doing a little after hours hunting in a cornfield from the sounds of it. lhttp://www.registerstar.com/breaking/article_5702d9d6-b6ac-11e6-bb06-637d81d1c064.html

Does your gun shop have any 375 Winchester ammo?
slipbob replied to Todd in NY's topic in Big / Small Game
You might be able to find some online from one of the big retailers and get it shipped pretty quick if you're trying to hunt with that gun in the next week or so. I've been getting ammo from Target Sports USA but mostly 22's and 38's. They have free shipping if you buy a larger quantity. A lot of people in NY don't even realize you can now buy ammo online and have it shipped to your house again since they changed that part of the SAFE act last year. -

Congratulations on a beautiful buck Ray K. I've hunted every morning this week and most afternoons in 5R and still just seeing one or two very young bucks cruising and a doe and fawn here and there between two properties most sits. Trail camera pulls were showing a huge spike in photos taken last week during the full moon. Pulled cards again yesterday the total number of pictures is way down since Saturday. I have three nice bucks I'm hunting and still not a single photo of anyone of them during the day. Usually around here I start seeing the bigger ones around Veteran's day to the gun opener trailing does just after first light and once in a while in the evening.

Thanks for sharing. Great clear photos. Years ago we used to fish shad in Lordville and some spots downriver.

That's great dvdegeorge. I need to show that to my wife after she gets home from work, makes me dinner, and does the dishes That will go over like a lead balloon. Big congratulations to Legacy and everybody who got big bucks so far This thread is great. So far I'm just seeing little bucks and the big guys are still nocturnal according to my trail cams but that will change any morning now.

IMO even easier than using the clam adapter is to just buy a nilsmaster convertible auger that can also be used as a hand auger and is ready to be used in any drill. It has a less aggressive bite than the standard nils bits and works great without having to take the chuck off the drill. I ran that most of the season last year and was very happy with it.
