Single screw straight inboard - Pro's & Con's
A-TOM-MIK replied to Irish Knots's topic in Open Lake Discussion
265 Pro Hunter, rather small rudder, weight around 6300 Docking isn't too bad once acquainted with it, does get tough until you know how to handle it, I didn't back into the dock for my first year, now do it with ease and it was a very windy season last year and for your info Mr Screamer every time I broke down last season with my single screw I was towed in without incident !!!! lol Also had to fish out the front door during tourney's as speed is rather slow, but still managed a 3rd and an 8th with the lead sled Screamer speaks of (: Tom -

As I sit here with a sh*t eating grin and goose-bumps thinking of blast off with you guys leading the Northwest charge (HA !!!) Glad to have you As for what I'm smoking ???? No need to wait till the after party because there's a constant heavy dose of stoked blood running rampid in the veins these days, this type event is what the players want, and its been that way for a very long time !!!! Vince: I would like to attest to your canning ability to stick to your guns and run with "how you perform the best" year after year. You and your THRILLSEEKER Team are in fact the single highest entity who has maintained that persona but still played the game. Hats off to you, as why your looked upon the way you are and also as to why you will always remain on that top shelf of competition. To be a threat in our loved series' of various competitions and formats will always come in various ways, your way stands above the rest even if you do not believe it to be so. My feeling of this proof is in the said fact itself of your admitted claim of "I have never, and will never, take part in a network of communication in any Tournament" My passion runs deep and I am willing to speak at the forefront. I have been expected to keep this thread clean and watch my P's and Q's, thus coming close to the line from time to time. Hey thats just me, but I feel our once cherished Pro/Ams have such a huge potential currently being masked, it sickens me to think of how they (IMO) are currently plateauing with enthusiasm d/t the single Open Communication rule. I talk to many, I hear a lot of input, I am "on many occasions" that "greeter" to up and coming potential. All my past rants of speaking for a majority were truths, I would of never poked my head out to take the brunt of the blow from coordination if I felt non-justified. Through many attempts to get the point across to the Pro/Am's on what a majority wanted has not come without reaction from "within" the Pro/Am, and here is where I need to be careful on what I say. If the simple fact "No Communication" was admitted it was not wanted d/t the entities adding the "blood, sweat and tears" to the tourneys did not want it, then I for one would of never pursued it the way I have. But to mask the truth (IMO) with various reasons or excuses only left room for rebuttal. As I contacted those in power as many did, the reasons often varied. Like I have openly stated on many occasions, 10 straight years of the Oswego Pro/Am (to 78 teams and the rule change) and a sell-out field in the Canadian Tightliner (for 5 years now) with ever growing interest is proof in the pudding of what us anglers want. Now with a sell-out in the WHI under a No Communication rule only nails that coffin shut once again. The Wilson Harbor Invitational was first brought up to me with an intriguing difference in mind: Kevin had asked What if this? What about that? How about if we did this? I also recall the phrase, "What would it take to make this work?", Not that I consider myself the one who knows all, but outside of those who choose to follow suit to my rants it seems I was always heading the charge, (openly that is) anyway..... Much thought was given from Kevin, then after some initial input he moved onto the next person and asked the same, the more time Kevin put into it the more feedback he received, as he was soaking it all in the rest of our thought process never stopped. Kevin reached the likes of some of the biggest names on the net, Billy V and Rick Hajecki, more input to soak in !!! All of a sudden Kevin took it to a whole new level, "the players tournament"....... Its working, Kevin got all of our attention at this point and has sold this to us on a non-skid platter, I mean how could most of us ever say no? Our Lake Ontario fishery deserves these kind of tourney's when high stakes are in play (IMO), but I also agree with Vince, the diversity the various tourney's bring is a sweet thing. With Closed Communication however, diversity is great but only when evenly played. Whether a Pro/Am, or a Tightliner, or now the WHI, it ranks a bit differently than our eastern basin family/kids oriented type events. But still the diversity is good, we deserve it, we love it, we live for it in some cases, we take it serious, if I heard Steph tell me once I heard her tell me 100 times, we won the Oswego Scotty and we are girls !!!!The korky little skit I made a few months back was another form of proof in the pudding. I had tons of anglers message me and say, "Tom, were you hiding cameras in our living rooms?" lol I've been in this game an average amount of time, for some anglers much longer and hopefully many more yet to come, It's my life to date and makes up most of my thoughts year round. As why the intensity often flows hard, were looking at a few hundred anglers getting together for the WHI, somewhere in each anglers thoughts there is that desire to win, the hope to do well, or the thought to beat a friend, or rank up against a "Vince". Serious stuff with hard earned dollars on the line and with energy created along the way. To win a WHI type event will be like no other for 2011 so far, to know you did it on your own and with decisions you and your team brought into play. Unreal the feeling to walk away with, as that strut to the stage will say it all. The winning team will have done it and without awkward feelings as to how, when amongst friends who bleed the same desire. Tom

I would agree with info from all responses so far 150 yds is about tops on a (Tekota 800 w/500' copper) quite frankly in a perfect world you would be fine, but not the case when chasing our Kings on LO After last years quality of Kings you may be hard pressed at times to have an adequate amount of backing for a few of the initial runs Other thoughts when choosing to load a copper reel with an adequate amount of backing: -At times you may hang bottom on a turn or during a small speed change, if so your looking at busting off your copper section and your rig (value: $50 to $70, copper, swivels, attractors, flies or etc.) with an adequate amount of backing you would increase your chances of swinging around and getting your gear back -At times you will hang another "long-line" from another troller, again with adequate backing you increase your chances of getting your rig back -If disaster strikes (as it has for all of us) and you hang your copper section into another one of your own rigs, you may need to chop down some of your backing, thus leaving you with less than you started with, or an inadequate amount, enough to possibly finish out your trip if your copper rig is hot that day, with not enough backing you hang that rod up for the day -Once your become more experienced with the art of running copper you can start to run multiple rigs, thus utilizing your presentations off boards, with an in-adequate amount of backing and running your copper rig out onto a board (60 to 100') your increasing your odds even more of getting spooled in any of the above mentioned scenarios I sell literal tons of copper over the course of a season, and I have never been guilty of sugar-coating its "not so user-friendly tendencies", but with that said most of the winningest teams on LO use copper as a daily staple when targeting Kings for obvious reasons. The stuff works !!! We just don't get to ail in that perfect world, lol Tom

Hey Rick if your not talking a "sticky" there was a tournamnet thread that was in the high 9000's started by Del a few years back, I belive rules was a common topic. I also think there was yet anther No Communication thread that has since been removed due to the rather strong content/feelings that may have been up there in hits This is the real deal man, its where the interest is at and where its been, Kev-O just reiterated its life !!!! Hope it sinks in as our somewhat platued existing tourney base needs a heavy IV of reality Tom

Maybe its not so nuts Kev-O, maybe its "compacted forced ram-sacked" energy being released for future west end competition, derived from not getting what we want on the east end !!!! We love the players from the west end and highly regard many, but the east boys now finally get to portray a love that has been slighted from us for quite a few years. If we have to travel clear across the lake and even into Canada to compete in a way we have often dreamed of then count us in, were on our way !!!! When the Primetime Pete's of the crowd say "I'm there lets play" you will know the stops are getting pulled and some of the most serious players there are will be ready to lay it on the line and rank themselves up against anybody who is ready to take them on. Tom

Go Get em Dave, if you can bundle that squad's energy and enthusiasm there will be so much radioactivity in the air waves the King's will tuck their tail fins between their pelvic fins and float to the top, all while Big Gene scoop's em up with his eyes closed and without Nog ever losing his grip on a 12'er. It'll only be your job at that point to keep the MEGA Screamer Vessel on course while Young Gene packs the cooler the way he does best with the HEAVY'S !!!!

Lov'n life No Communication.... Sorry Vince but you have the bulleseye, as one of the original biggest advocates of a No Communication.... evenly played fields of competition on our great Lady O We're coming for ya bud, Pete may say no but I know better, for all of our teams TO BE THE BEST YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE BEST, and the best are here !!! Its great for us as well as many teams, that the quality of this field superceeds possibly all there ever were in a field that a huge majority of us have only dreamed about in a No Communication.... event Oh Yeah Tom

I am sure Pete and Candie will have some of the new VQ Alewife Series flies there to compliment his new Spinnies !!! Check them out !!!! Tom -
WOW If I keep reading correctly.......... The Wilson Harbor Invitational could quite possibly have drawn the highest amount of "interest to commit" this early ever in a high dollar tourney style event: A possible $20,000 to the winner ???????? $35 total in the top 3 spots alone Another possibility in a sell-out, while the snow is still about 4 ft high on most of our shore More sponsors giving generously than we can shake a stick at ??? Someone already took a cool thousand home ...... Hmmm, Geez, What took so long ???? Build it and they will come !!!!! Give them what they want and they will stay !!!!!! It feels good to be a part of the hype. Big Dollars No Communication The best of the best Lake Ontario anglers in one field Kings only Gonna be a few Kings sweat'n it out come May brotha !!!! Gotta Love It !!!!! Tom

Just a note for LOTSA I have received many messages for custom pre-orders I just finalized prices for our once a year sale Also out of respect to our many retail outlets we are not accepting custom orders We will have somewhat of a cross-section of our goods there for sale A few each of just about all our colors This "special opportunity" is to offer a great big thank you to those who have chosen to follow us through the years and also to help aid funding for the Net Pens Instead of responding to each of you who have inquired this will be our only response to the wishes for custom orders TYVM Tom

Vince is into the tourney bass scene..... go figure !! Shearing off his winning advantage by letting us in on his insight !!! Build it and they will come !!!!! Correct on much input, new ideas, thinking outside the beaten box of ole.... No dumb suggestions could possibly be mentioned!!! For how are we going to know what the most amount of anglers want if we don't throw it out there? If your own idea doesn't spark a multiple positive response then hey, so be it Why wouldn't "you" want to be a part of the WHI? You= our actual small tight-knit crowd of anglers sharing a common goal. I know I sound like a used 45, apologies ... apologies !!! But the constant reaction through the years concerned with our tourney scene that many of us "literally love" and in some cases could never see us walk away from is a simple feeling of being equal, team against team, and one team against all, us against you, our buddies teams against their buddies teams and us against them, on the levelest of playing fields. How will my team rank against Vince? How far up the ladder do we need to place to feel worthy of our energy expended. No Communication, no lost friendships, no strains on who is believing who !!!! Get it done, lets see what you got !!! Could this event or any event always be better? Sure it could, but when the masses are talking its time to drop back and punt & listen. Move on, break out of the mold, make it happen !!!! Well anglers good ole Kev-O is in the make'n of letting it happen, the more I hear the pump abound, the more I feel like WOW, a top 20, top 10, a cash, what a feeling to walk away from an event like this knowing you did it within "your" teams choices.....Stoked..... Stoked Lady O needs an event like this on our American shore, with all welcome, she deserves it and we deserve it, we play hard and we are a serious breed, lets get this done !!! Tom

Great deal and Awesome idea !!! Free ice too... are you kidding me? Now that's really putting the thinking cap on and catering to all, the players, the marina, the fishery and a few that may never be so fortunate to see the likes of some Lake Ontario fruits. Innovative and respectful !!!! The WHI is setting a future stage. I also heard through the grape-vine of another new innovative idea to the WHI (to our Lake Ontario tourney scene that is) can't wait till this concept/idea is firmed up, surely gonna make a few extra eyes from the crowd stay tuned till the end, who would normally head to the parking lot before an event is even over. Keep it coming Kev-O Tom
